  • CARLISLE CITADEL STATION in JUNE 1987
    Upon my visit to Carlisle station I was fortunate enough to witness the last BR mainline passenger service over the S & C, diagrammed for a class 40 locomotive. This was the 12.37 Carlisle to Leeds service and was hauled by 40122. Main WCML services were in the hands of AC Electrics mainly and many of the long haul freight as well. A DMU arrived from Barrow in splendid Green livery which made the scene very nostalgic. Enjoy the smokey departures as the trains make their way to their destinations, apart from the "Electrics" of course.

    I had 40 122 from Reading to Carlisle to St Albans ! 40 028 "Samaria" from Derby to Newcastle and from Carlisle to Derby. But best were 40 086 + 40 152 from Crewe to Polmadie to Crewe. 40 122 was a popular loco, other trips with her include Buxton and Kings Lynn !

      I too fell in love with this loco....so much so I have bought an 0 gauge class 40 and am thinking of having Tower Models convert it into D200.....She will then go into my display cabinet.....Many thanks and best wishes....Mark

    Now THAT! Brings back memories! I cannot remember which side I was hanging out of. But I was DEFINITELY on that Leeds bound train pulled by D200. That was a regular run at that time. 8:42 from Leeds returned at 12:43 (cannot remember the exact time). D200 was but on the return trip! Then ran the 16:25 return from Leeds. But yeah I remember that shunt too. I believe it was a break problem. They were locking up on the way up and caused a lot of problems! Cased a panic for everyone because we were hanging around the wrong door for the front. I jumped first and got a prime seat nearest the engine! Also D200 was always made to turn the engine off at Leeds because it was too noisy. Great memories! Great posting!

    Beautiful sound Coming from Whistler D200 , Lovely rare footage from the late 1980s at Carlisle ,Lovely Diesel Locomotion to Class 86 and 87 Electric Locomotion,long before digitalism and When camcorders where these big chunky things,But wow they did the job recording footage like this ❤Proper trains back then would have just been aged 13 when this was filmed in late June of 1987 born in July 1973 ,This was a time before Smartphones and Pocket size Digital video cameras ,Long live the 1980s ,Sadly not the case in todays world with plastic things operating nowadays .Give me a time machine ❤

    I heard a younger mate telling me he'd had D200 on the Leeds Carlisle and I was really jealous - until I remembered I came from a time when class 40 haulage was by no means rare and I'd had lots of them on the Carlisle and lots of other places. I love how you can hear the 40 singing merrily to itself for over half the video!

    Brilliant video of D200 That's how shunting stock was done no hanging about lots of power on The 08 was shifting a bit as well 15mph looked more like 20.

    Amazing video footage of D200/40122 my thoughts are she should be considered for reinstatement for main line use again like other class 40s instead of sitting silent in the nrm york unless she is technically non serviceable

      @@spompey most welcome Mark one locomotive I vaguely remember only in photos in magazines was DP2 the deltic locomotive body shell with a class 50 power unit as it was written off in a bad crash in Thirsk north Yorkshire in 1967 if it had survived I'm sure it would have been a preservation candidate for survival but as I was born in 1971 I think it would have been a amazing sight and machine 👍😁

      @spompey  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@stephenchecksfield632 You would like to think so, but many class of locos escaped preservation as like "Kestrel" and early type 2s....Big shame and opportunity missed....many thanks Stephen and best wishes...Mark
