So true. I'm in board and care. It's been almost 4 years now. Make myself more crazy trying to figure it out. It's a very fucked up time to try and move forward. I am incredibly bored and all my friends and family are in another state. Trying to get housing. My drug counselor telling me to focus on myself not volunteering or helping others. Meetings are few and outside here in Santa Monica. Took off the liquid handcuffs 6 months ago and on step 2 with the nic patch. At the dentist every other week. Ride my cruiser bike. Divorced. Just turned 44. I just try, every fucking day.

I feel like this only works if you have people to begin with. If you're alone then you have no one but yourself. Becuase that's where I'm at rn.

If your struggling with addiction you never have to be alone there are meetings out there you just have to get to one and ask someone for HELP 🙏

Yeah that's same with me. I'm by myself ALL THE TIME.. I not socially using with people .
So I don't think people groups will help me either..
Infact I did try reach out just once on MSGING Facebook stranger but they can't really be there for you. . they got their own lives. No one can be there 24/7 for u. #& U feel like a burden on them if U fuck up ..
      ...
Or I find they been STRAIGHT so long , they really don't get it . and their advice is not helping..
      I feel ya Mate!

That's tough. Similar situation. My wife was my drug buddy and it was just us on the street. We got into board and care together and on methadone. We divorced 2 years ago though and all my friends and family are in another state. Meetings are outside and extremely limited here. I've been seeing my dentist every other week getting things back in order. He's becoming a friend. Desperately want a friend circle out here. So many people in my life when I was using and I took it for granted. I'm lucky a few of them still speak to me even though they're long distance.

@@mrbenjaminhubert what do U mean so many people in yr life when U were using but U took it for granted ?..

Burnout from being head of household, a single parent, and a Healthcare worker for the past 3 years is very real. I am so mentally exhausted from this, and my bf who doesn't live with me told me that he would help me with whatever I need, whether it be another set of hands to help keep up with housework, or someone to vent too, when family tells me to suck it up and work through the exhaustion. At least I have him to lean on during the past 2 years. He recognizes that I have a lot on my plate, and he says that he'll always have my back.

So true I tried figuring it out on my own for years I told myself that self medicating with alcohol was a bad idea and I continued to do it. But when I reached out for help and surrounded myself with good sober people my life got a lot better. I’m still fighting this vicious cycle of addiction and I hope one day it will be behind me. I know there is a light at the end of this dark tunnel ❤️🙏🏻🤘🏻

Thank you Brandon. I happened to stumble across your channel tonight. I remember watching you back in the day in my 20's. I never knew what came of you until I came across your Channel. I myself have been newly sober going on 7 months now. I had been battling addiction for almost 7 years, and nearly lost everything, but if it where not for my family I wouldn't be here today to see my beautiful baby girl grow into the beautiful young girl she has become. I was always afraid to ask for help, and when I finally did my family was there with open arms. It hasn't been easy, but I can honestly say that I have never been happier. Seeing you overcome everything you have, and being able to stay sober for this many years gives me a great sense of hope that I can do this, and continue to stay sober. Thank you being so open, and forthcoming with your journey. You are an inspiration to me, and I thank you.

Thanks Brandon. I owe a better part of a year of my sobriety to your story man. Though I followed you and the JAC FROM SKATEBOARDING we never get to see the dark side until we wake up in it and lost everything. Its empowing the stories of sobriety. Thank you for sharing yours it is powerful. I hope to be able to tell mine one day. Homeless in my car with recent job loss and in school to get certs to get on track is a challenge but with videos like this it helps me push through and not get so desperate I could put someone at risk to get bare necessities of life. A hungry man is a dangerous man.

I don't have health insurance nor do I have time to go to any help treatment. I work 40 hours a week . I was just really looking for your personal advice cuz I know you've been thru the addiction an I figured anxiety was one of the things u suffered from so I thought I would just be hearing advice an see what is that keeps you sane but I do appreciate the out reach alot thank you . I have some issues myself 😃 Getting outside for walks or riding my bike. Exercise. I have a lot of time since I lost everything to dope. Make myself crazier trying to figure stuff out sitting and mulling it over, but getting on my bike and listening to music gives me a feeling of freedom. Anxiety is awful. Sometimes I get stuck on things, negative thinking. It's not reality though.

I wish that's how it works but it's not, dude. People can't just snap their fingers and get you in. There's waiting lists, all sorts of stuff that makes things complicated. I would advise you to start making calls. The more effort you put in, the better results. I promise you that. You don't go to rehab to get cured like a hospital. I used to think that way and it held me back. The work is done by you. Doesn't matter the substance. That's just the most obvious sign of your problem. It's your thinking that's holding you back.

Brandon, I'm the son of a sober alcoholic. I've had discussions with my dad several times about what exactly makes alcoholism or drug abuse a disease but never got a good answer. What's your take on it?
Also, I've sometimes felt that alcoholics or drug addicts sometimes become manic about the 12 step program, almost like they're switching from one addiction to another, even if it's for the better. What's your take on it?
