I found it odd that after gears 2 ended there were 3 books worth of events that took place before gears 3 came out. I just happen to read those books while I was waiting for the game to be made so I had a lot of explaining to do to my friends. One thing the games never mentioned about the stalks which was the real danger. After the cog sunk Jacinto they settled on an island called vectes dockyards. All was well until the stalks started showing up. It wasn't the polyps or dredges that forced them to abandon the island. Wherever a stalk appeared it also destroyed the soil around it within a few square miles. Once the stalks showed up they ran out of fertile ground to grow crops. They ran out of food and were forced to de-solve what was left of the coalition and split up into groups.
Agreed it was a bit odd, but it felt appropriate for the series. Seeing how Gears 2 ended, if Gears 3 picked up immediately after that event it would have been a bit dull and the game would have been off putting for many. They made the gap work perfectly though to show the impact of the events from Gears 2 and the toll it took on Dom. It would have been nice though if the collectibles would've held more context of what had happened in the time between.
Wait, but in one of the earlier books, didn't they have a method of growing food in factories instead of needing soil? And that was their primary food source too. Did they lose all of that tech with the sinking of Jacinto?
@@DBZHGWgamer Been awhile since I read them. Could be. I remember in the 3rd game when they mentioned the data disk Hoffman stole from Prescott. I found that kind of dumb because unless you read the books you would not have known anything about that.
@@DBZHGWgamer its a long time to respond to this, but its mentioned in one of the books (Vespin Fields or something like that i cannot recall exactly) specifically where the main squad were assigned to emergency transport a large number of massive fungus 'vats' that produced large amounts of food mass essentially self-sufficiently and that losing the vats would be a major loss as the amount of time to replace/even consider getting another source of food would mean that Gears would be low on food. the book again (much from Dom's view) has him mention that Gears are given pretty much unlimited access to as much food as they really could want, though its very bland (Dom's reminisces on sandwiches in cafe windows he and Maria would look in on but never buy on a main shopping street) which gets them a lotta crap from very heavily rationed Civilians in Jacinto. they are given this to just pump them full of calories to keep them running as they are maintaining pretty intense physiques as well as going on duty for about 16 hours at a time with a small gap to rest if they are lucky but because they serve where most cant see them burning off the limitless calories they are granted most just think the military is hoarding food for itself while the people starve and they dont do anything.

@@sunnydragon722 well tbf. And yes I’m very late. If OSHA existed knowing the dangers of immultion gas. They would’ve made it so that workers would have to wear gas masks and enough filters for replacement along with full body covering gear since immultion is deadly to touch for prolonged periods

@danieltukua4527 you don't think that they knew that? Gears of Wars universe is already advanced and had filters. Eventually the lambent would transform other lifeforms and species. Not to mention the imulsion/lambent originate from riftworms so the riftworms would also have to exist and give life to creatures that exist right under our noses. Not to mention its evolution is sporadic and volatile meaning it would find a way like all life does as it is a parasite
Sometimes I wonder how things would have gone if Adam Fenix finished the anti-imulsion weapon before E-Day.

The Lambent are supposed to be the final end to the nightmare, in a way, the Imulsion is the reason for all the war and conflict during the main trilogy, so by defeating it, we defeat the Locust and finally end it all.

I believe the Locust wanted to do that, but after seeing how power hungry and violent the humans were, having them even encounter the humans would turn out bloody and just turn into a capture and research thing.

When I found out about the Lambent in the games I was shocked how bad as the Locusts were. They've been fighting a loosing civil war downstairs while trashing humanity like it's nothing upstairs. A multi front war is very dangerous yet they did it for many years.

The idea and start of construction were not created until the events of gears 1 (source "The Slab" gears novel). However Adam Fenix knew about lambency for several years (Same source). If he had gone to the chairman instead of keeping the facts known he could have had a team helping him from the start. Also how you mention Nukes. It actually was a pulse of radiation that "killed off" the radiation
Guessing the locust came about because humans were a new species exposed to the raw imulaion, but as humans refined it and used more of it, it developed into lambancy. Think of how humans never had smallpox until they started domesticating animals in real life (chickenpox from chickens, cowpox from cattle, etc.), but even then, it wasn't immediate

There are some corrections I'd like to add (I know this is old, but this is for new viewers or old viewers). The imulsion/lambent originate from the riftworms, so the riftworms would have to exist and eventually create life within the hollows. With this happening under our world and how deep the inner hollows really are, it'd be hard to just nuke it or us as it is a parasite spread throughout the hollows created by the riftworms. The imulsion would still survive, and it took Adam fenix one of the top scientists in the world more than two decades to make a countermeasure against it. And to top it off the imulsions tenacity and its constant need to evolve would eventually overrun the world and create more abominations. If the locust were also formed, humanity would eventually lose billions of lives and die out if a cure was never founded. Not to mention we'd need our best guns and arsenals to take them out before it infected our military as well, especially if the locust and hollow creatures are invading and mutating into lambent.

I am curious where did you get the information about the landmasses of Sera? The map shown in the previous part is not official, and I do not remember that a clear image or representation of the planet was ever mentioned or shown in books nor games. I just have to add my two cents saying that it would never happen bcse that's not how viruses even work lmao, at least not normal ones. i mean you have rabies which is a viral infection but you have to keep in mind that it ends up killing its host bcse it's a neurological based virus that deprives the infected of species and food. also the recent deer zombie virus thing which is basically rabies but takes longer to show up since it's a prion disease. if the virus in the gow universe acts as it does then it shouldn't be a virus it'd be a prion since those are the mostly only type of diseases that can lay dormant and that also take control of the host or affect them with their behaviors (see Alzheimer and dementia as an example). But the problem with that is that prions derive from already living creatures since they're a misfolded proteins that occur withing a neurological system. so basically if the diseases was replicated irl it'd have to originate from an already existing species, be prion based so it does not instantly kill its host (because prions are not parasites they're a defect of a regular protein), and have to go unnoticed long enough to affect generations. and since diseases like alzheimer and dementia are inherited, it is likely. but the problem with that is that it'd be easy to find the genetic marker (assuming the human genome project or equivalent still happened) and warn the individual and quarantine them. not to mention it'd be rare as heck in humans since y'know, people that try to kill other people tend to be killed.
TLDR: the locust problem would be easily solved in the real world due to the genome project and the behaviors and characteristics of a virus, therefore allowing the disease to be genetically linked, originates from a genetic defect in another species and crosses the species boundary, and would be easily identifiable and not as bad as in the game
