    Great video!
    I have a music studio in my basement where I teach drum lessons, livestream, and do recording projects for others. I absolutely LOVE my Mac Studio Max! It's a beast. I bought the base model, because I really didn't feel like waiting an extra six weeks for an upgraded version. And, I didn't really want to spent too much past $2k. I was slightly worried that it wouldn't have enough horsepower to do what I needed, but when everything was up and running properly, my fears were completely assuaged.
    I have open, at any given time, OBS with five cameras connected, Logic Pro which may or may not be recording,, Music, Moises (a music app), and maybe I forgot to close Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator. This machine does not even blink. It doesn't care about any superfluous programs, because it's got that much processing headroom. The first two "performance cores" are spiked, but the rest of the cores are all happily idling along, waiting for something meaningful to come down for them to crunch.
    For monitors, I'm using two; a Samsung 50" for my "behind the drumkit" display, and a 75" Samsung in front of the drumkit as a "portal to the outside world". I got them both at Costco, and together they cost me far less than one of those high falutin' Apple monitors. I may be losing some functionality, but I don't know what that is, because what I've got is working so well.
    I'm really tempted to pick up one of the Thunderbolt 4 docks from OWC (eshop.macsales.com/shop/owc-ministack-stx) with a 2TB SSD for extra storage. That way I can get rid of the stacks of loose HDDs and SSDs I have dangling here and there in the nether regions of my computer rig.
    As far as this computer goes, I wouldn't change a thing. I may run into a processing conundrum down the line and find the need for a Mac Studio "Ultra". When the need arises, we'll cross that bridge, and maybe Apple will be up into the M3 or even M4 chips by that time.

    One of the reasons I didn't want a bluetooth keyboard and mouse (especially from apple) is that many years ago I kept dealing with "connection lost" several times a day that I just never want to deal with ever again. Logitech product with receiver works the best, even though you lose a couple of ports it's worth it.

    Great review. I picked up a Caldigit TB4 element after another of your reviews, it is great. I work off data stored on USB thumb drives (work data) and the speed increase accessing data has increased unbelievably over my old hyperdrive. The number of ports is great and I am using all but 1 already. I was an early adopter of the Airpods Max. I just laugh at all the nay sayers. They are the best I have used and I can confirm all the positives you mentioned about them. I use the MX Master3 mouse and MX keys keyboard. Also the best I have ever used. I like the looks of the mini but I need a number pad, so I stick with the full size. Only downside is the battery on the keyboard doesn't hold a charge as long as it used to. As I move around a lot but still want great sound, I use the Homepods mini's. Small enough that I can put them in my carry on. They can be a bit fussy with a wifi connection but the sound can't be beat for the size. For home I have Audio Engine speakers and the older, larger Homepods, which again, are hard to beat and look great with any Mac setup. Mac Studio will likely be the next purchase, if work and covid ever allow me to get home but right now my base model 16" MBP is working fine. Thanks again!

    • @mehfuzh
      @mehfuzh 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JerrySchulze sorry for the late reply, going iPad I meant how about using iPad with mac studio, meaning I am using macbook pro 13 with m1 with mac studio ultra lately, and I ended up or forced myself to use mac studio more because of all that power at disposal and macbook only for regular and lightweight tasks which can all be done using an iPad
      Probably I don' t need macbook at all when M1 is now supported both in iPad pro and iPad Air.
      Ideally, I want to use the studio display to switch seamlessly between two mac devices using a dock but I believe that is not possible today. But I can at least use iPad for sidecar features

    Thanks for the detailed video. Had one comment the USB dongle for the mouse. My experience was the opposite with using a Logitech wireless mouse. USB dongle caused issues DAILY. Not exaggerating. Became a morning ritual at my job to unplug/replug the dongle then restart my Mac until finally connection was stable. Later, switched to bluetooth mouse when we upgraded our Mac Pros to iMacs. No issues. Did the same at home and works great. Anyway, maybe was the dongle, maybe the mouse. Who knows, but thought I would share either way.Cheers!

    Excellent review Jerry. I simply can't justify the price of a Studio display, even accepting that it provides a higher build quality, and will almost certainly do down the route of Thunderbolt-enabled 4K/5K monitor(s). I do like the Kanto speakers though, especially if the volume is completely controlled from the keyboard.

    You confirm what many of us felt about the display .. it's still better to have external monitors. It's most unfortunate that no company seems to want to bring out a 5K monitor that would give us some choice. I shall be waiting to see if something else emerges more suited to my needs. In addition to which, I refuse to pay £400 extra for height adjustment - a feature that should be standard.

For the record, Logitek customer support solved the key board problem, but only after setting up a 2nd computer to switch back and forth from. (Luckily I have more than one computer!). Once done, the KB recognizes the Apple Command which is pretty important stuff for Apple users! Can't blame that one on you, but once issue was cleared up - I love the keyboard big time - and the fact I can now switch back and forth for two computers via pressing one key. The MX mouse and Keyboard is fantastic. I like that I can switch between my MAC and Windows PC. I disagree about the monitor. Too expensive and only 27 inch. If it was 32 inch perhaps but I have two Ben Q 32 inch monitors on a set of display arms.

    Hey Jerry, I do a two monitor setup and have a tilt only Studio Display now so if I get a hight adjustable one later, will they line up and can be at the same hight next to each other you think? I do not live near an Apple store to go find out and usually have my Apple gear mailed.

      Get a VESA mount. I special ordered as Apple Studio Display with VESA. I bought a wonderful monitor arm online direct from Herman Miller, the model is called “Jarvis” and it has a 14 year warranty.
      Anyway, I achieved my goal of reclaiming my desk and getting the Mac base out of the way.
