A few clarifications: 2:28 - Strictly speaking, the Moon takes only 27.3 days to orbit the Earth. Because the Earth and the Moon are constantly moving, sunlight illuminates the Moon from a different angle every day. Therefore, to a person observing from Earth, a full Moon appears only 29.5 days after the previous full Moon. Our ancients knew this, but rounded it off to 30 days for operational convenience! 3:57 - Pope Gregory was merely fine-tuning the concept of leap year introduced by Julius Caesar in 45 BCE. Caesar’s astronomers had "over-compensated" the leap year, because a solar year is actually 365 days, 5 hours, 48 minutes and 46 seconds, not 365 days, 6 hours as approximated by them. Pope Gregory re-adjusted this overcompensation by declaring every 100th year a non-leap year, and every 400th year a leap year! Pope Gregory is therefore remembered as the “inventor” of the modern calendar!

Your site is good and helpful to most of our young people who have not been taught or have forgotten our traditions and mores and the reasons for them. A video on the importance of Nakshathra and Raashi for birthdays will be helpful. So, in Karnataka, both yugadhis are celebrated depending on the region. * Its pronunced 'yugadhi' (which means beginning of a new yuga), not 'ugadhi'.

Not only Pongal but the Vishwakarma puja also falls on a fixed date. In Bengal, Assam & Orissa Vishwakarma puja Falls every year on 17 September ( 18 September in a year before the Gregorian leap year), the day when Surya enters the constellation of virgo (kanya rashi).
There is only one moon and one sun. We humans like to complicate to have a lot of variations. I enjoyed learning this video. Thank you to the team for developing this video packed with information. 👍🏼👍🏼💓

Really enjoyed this video. Looking at the title I answered myself 'few follow solar and few lunar. That's all na' But as I started to watch it brought out so many different aspects. Absolutely interesting and very informative 👍 👏 👌
Thank you for sharing your viewpoint. We really appreciate it.
The conventional Saka calendar is a lunar calendar adjusted for the seasons by adding extra months (adhika masam) roughly twice in five years.
That also means that Saka calendar is not synchronised with the seasons. It drifts some 28 days before it is reset with an extra month.
Well researched, excellent presentation, loved the art work 👏.
Wonderful information.King Saka was defeated by Salivahana a satavahana king in a battle .Saka samvatsara stated.

Which also follows Lunar-----------------------------------------------------------------------------Solar Calendar
And various groups fall under each and middle is Luni-Solar
Pastoralists/Nomadic cultures------------------------------------------------------------------------------Industrial Societies
And all these people are all on spectrum between
Lunar---Muslims, Mongols,African Tribals------------Luni-Solar-----Telugus, Kannadas, Hindians, Gujaratis----------------Tamils,Bengalis,Punjabis
At around 2 minutes mark u mention the earth revolving around sun but this theory came only recently in 1500s by Copernicus

Very good presentation, neat and precise ; the pronunciation is superb.
Great video.very simple yet interesting and useful.
Actually there are so many civilizations and religions around the world that some even celebrate new year in the middle of the Year.
Informative 👍
Please note a few things..
* you should have mentioned about the 'adhika maasa' which is an additional month that is included in the Lunar calender once in every 3 years, to make up for the short cycles of the moon's rotation & revolution.
* Coastal Karnataka (like Udupi, Mangaluru districts) celebrate Soura (solar) Yugadhi on 14th/15th April, whereas Kannadigas in interior parts of the peninsula follow the Lunar calender. So, in Karnataka, both yugadhis are celebrated depending on the region.
* Its pronunced 'yugadhi' (which means beginning of a new yuga), not 'ugadhi'.
Dear Sir / Madam kindly please share info about the concept of Adhik Masa and how is it calculated and which principle it follows to be implemented and annexed within the Hindu calendar. Thanks very much.
Regards
Why no 2 panchanga don't match ? Please explain in detail or make a separate video with examples.
in lunar calender used by telugus, kannadigas and marathis, for every two years an extra month is added in name of "adhika masam", so the left out days are calcualted not left out
Very useful! Never thought this way why there are so many calendars and why don't they follow same standard...thanks
Thank you so much!

Great analysis, you covered uttarayana, but you also missed pushkarams which would adjust all these days and times in every 12 years - the Hindu calendar has great logic - love to learn

This also brings out that ancient Indians knew about the shape and motion of earth, sun and moon else where earth was the center of universe.
