I did this setup myself. My main panel is right on the other side of the garage wall, so installation was easy.
It's been 4 years, and everything is working perfectly. Wiring has been checked ✔️ twice, just to make sure nothing is overheating or that there's a bad connection.
    Great video.👍🏻

8awg wire is not supported for sustained 40A loads like EV charging. 6awg is required for this install. I'm glad you went with the right one.

Double pole breakers are automatically balanced. It does not matter where they are in the panel. They will by design tap each 120V leg for a total of 240V. See 10:19 the staggered legs. I'm no electrician but I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express once..........

I have some limited experience so I did it myself too rather than pay the grand that they wanted to do it here locally. I got a state permit and had it inspected. It cost me about $160 including the permit. I installed Tesla connector right next to panel in garage. Great stuff and no one was electrocuted. 😀

Things are changing. Over the last couple years there have been too many events with cheaper outlets ($10-15) melting. Not designed for the continuous EV loads. Commercial grade is now recommended ($50+). Not all areas have adopted the code change that requires a gfci breaker but some manuals are saying not to use them because of nuisance tripping. Best install is hardwired but that requires 90 degree copper (THHN) by most manuals.

Usually a professional should be doing a 50amp because - such things as your wire must be right; lots of things can kill you playing with a panel. It isn't even legal in many areas for that reason. You really should be disconnected up line; just switching off the main breaker isn't good practice. Will average people know if it is damaged? Did you check your load and line max load? If you didn't you could catch your house on fire. Your house looks newer so it probably is a 200amp but if it was 100 ; you'd have a fire hazard overloading your panel. Even properly stripping your wire can be an issue.

This “used to be an electrician” has no idea what he’s doing... not burying the conduit, saying you can cut off a few strands from the neutral conductor if it doesn’t fit in the neutral bus bar, saying the circuit breaker is there to protect the Tesla (not the wiring), claiming his Klein 11-1 driver is insulated, not using any duct seal, not using a Sq-D breaker for that panel... not even sure what he was checking for with the meter at the end.
