The Tour de France 2022 started on Friday, July 1, on Danish soil, an omen of what could happen during the race, with a clear favorite, the Slovenian Tadej Pogacaçar, winner in the last two editions of the French race. The UAE rider arrived in an optimal state, to attempt his third assault on Paris and enter the legend of the Tour with illustrious names such as Louison Bobet or Greg Lemond.
He would have his biggest rival in Jonas Vingegaard, a Dane of the Jumbo team, a great climber and who had conquered second place in 2021. He had an exceptional group of colleagues. Men like Primoz Roglic, Sep kuss, Lapoprte or Wout van Aert would help the Dane unseat the Slovenian as number one.
Enjoy the fight of the best cyclists in the world in the best cycling race in the world.

This is my favourite stage ever. I must say I'm biased, because I've been a fan of the team since the early Rabobank years in the '90's, but this stage was epic. Even this long summary (nice video!) misses so many great moments, like the Van Aert taxi service. This is the only stage I'm rewatching in it's full like once a year.

On col du Granon i think pogi has no team and underestimated opponents. Actually it looks that Vingo is better in GT but also this year Pogi had problems: short preparation. Vingo now favourite but i want really to see Pogi at hos best playing fully defensive in mountain stages.

Looking back now, was it the Jumbo tactics or was it Pogacar cracking. We saw him struggle again this year with no Jumbo tactics. Not that we didn't like seeing them attack him like they did but I'm not sure they did as much as they thought they did at the time.

Jumbo did have tactics this year also. They tried to crack him again and it happened

Jumbo and Vingegaard as well all said from the first week, that it was in week 3, and especially stage 17, where they expected to win. Vingegaard said on danish TV, that he expected the tour to be decided by minutes not seconds. Jumbo set a very high pace in the tougher mountain stages, and that slowly weared Pogacar down. However, I think Pogacar was maybe a slight bit out of form caused by the wrist injury prior to the tour. Next year will be crazy

yeah comparing tdf22 vs tdf23 edition, tdf23 edition, Jumbo's tactics wasn't salient as tdf22, wout should've play a better role this year..

@@Loessing they also set a very high pace in the medium stages where they made sure that Pog didnt have any easy days to recover. There where a few stages where UAE did the same and that played into Jumbos hand, they got the high pace they wanted without using their own domnestics and UAE where tiering out their own leader just to gain a few seconds on Jonas.
I honestly think Jonas would have wonn even without Pog`s crash in Liege-Bastogne Liege, he is just too good in the high, long mountains, although he would have wonn with 2-4 and not 7+ minnutes.

Cycling is a team sport, and they should win as a team. Alternatively, they could add a team win for the best team, not the one best rider.

There is a price for the best overall team, on every stage they take the time of the 3 best rider of each team and make team classification. In the peleton it is the team that rides with yellow helments that is curently leading this competition. The problem is that no one gives f.. about this except Moviestar.
