If you look back at Episode 1 when Moxie was addressing his disapproval with the idea of killing a family he said "Maybe a shitty dad... Or a mob family.... that's understandable." In a mobster accent. Well, that was a reference to his background that NOBODY knew at the time.

15:20 FYI, the term "beard" in this instance refers to the ancient days of american past where gay closeted men would marry women to hide the fact that they were gay, a cover story as a beard covers a man's face.
The term can apply to lesbians who married a man as well.

Also chaz did literally fuck his friends, so friend-fucker works. But i love how it shows blitz is only ever sort of listening to what's being said.

What really bowled me over about this episode was all the little touches they added to deepen the authenticity of Moxxie's emotional scars with regards to his father. The big one, at least for me, was his full-tilt emotional breakdown: even though you could clearly tell he was sobbing uncontrollably, you can _barely hear it._
Too many people don't know this, but that kind of near-silent breakdown is a hallmark of an abusive relationship, especially when there's a threat of retribution for such emotional outbursts -- as a self-protection strategy, people trapped in such circumstances internalize the practice of keeping their emotions masked and their breakdowns sedate in order to avoid drawing unwanted attention.
_This_ is what the series does better than any other show I've seen: by not glossing over heavy topics, it gives people who've lived those kinds of lives an opportunity to talk about it in a way that doesn't come up often, and to help shed a light on their experiences in a way that helps others understand.
Precisely. I grew up with an abusive adoptive father and /so/ much in this episode resonated with me. It was unexpected, yet welcome, to see this manner of situation addressed at all, and addressed in a manner that both covered how severely it can affect the victim whilst also covering the fact that it is possible for the victim to grow and take that power back from their abuser. This episode was very well done in that regard, and I respect Viv and her team greatly for how they handled it.
@Alice-ln8mg I'm hoping that it's also helping people lucky enough to have _never_ experienced such abuse to learn how to recognize some of its signs, so that they can help if they're able to. I recall that John was confused about why Angel was so severely afraid of Val in the fourth episode of _Hazbin,_ and wondered aloud here why Moxxie didn't just refuse to do what his father told him -- the psychological toll of being trapped in a controlling, abusive relationship is a mystery to him, and if not for Viv and her team's work here, he might not have any clue what it looks like behind the closed doors and drawn curtains that hide the worst of those relationships from the public eye.
I did not, in fact, know that. I did, however, just have a very unexpected realization about my relationship with my mother.

Yeah this was an amazing episode, we got some deep issues of abuse, possibly Moxxie's mother was murdered for leaving Crimson, asshole ex's, and Millie rampaging a wedding. The song they pick for her was wild and perfect! With each episode of the show you will notice they got better and better animation, longer episodes, and deeper plot. Viv also loves to put easter eggs and small details in like every frame to flesh out a story. So its worth watching multiple runs.
Even the candles 🕯 in the chandelier were *converted* 😂
The Imp Moxie killed was NOT his mom, that Imp had thick white and black stripes. His mom has thin white lines on her horns, also the muffled screams sounded masculine, so it was a random imp. Crimson probably killed his wife before he even got moxie on that boat.

The imp Crimson makes Moxxie drown is NOT his mom, the legs are not distended like hers and they have a male horn pattern.
I have a theory that she was in the bodybag Crim had behind him. If he pushed it in the water when we pan off-camera and there was a hole or something, it would explain why her shoe still floats back up at that moment.

I love how emotional this show gets. Like it’s unexpectedly very warm, and it hits you so hard. I hope you enjoy the next couple episodes, even up to the finale, as the emotions are not even close to being finished with this show

Helluva Boss and Hazbin Hotel kinda do this thing where the show moves FAST. Most of the lore is right in your face, it just goes by too fast. Also, you can kinda get away with depicting amazing violence and get away with it because it looks so surreal. So, Erm MIllie. We get to see her: Slice a throat, Clamp a skull in a trunk, Tear someone's skin off and shove an adult toy down their throat Pop someone's Skull out through their earhole, Pull someone's spine out through their teeth and throttle them with it while also using it as a lasso to pull them into her blade, then she tore someone in half from head to hind, Ripped someone else's Jaw off and tear it in half then use that jaw to bludgeon two other guys,, pull out someone's "liver?" with her teeth while growling, knife-melee several guys ending in throwing two of them over the arch to hang by their disembowled intestines, then she uses those u-know-whats to choke ppl. And that's just what I had the patience to slow-mo.....not to mention the spins, backflips and flying leaps XD There is so much in this show :)

Now in the season 1 episode "Harvest Moon", we learn both Moxie and Millie are from Wrath. This episode, Moxie tells us he grew up in Greed, and I have a theory about this.
Moxie's family is in fact from Wrath and he was born there. But, Crimson wasn't content being a farmer, so he moved the family to Greed and took up the life of a mafioso, even adopting the stereotypical accent and lingo. But he's actually not very good at it. His operation is still small time even after all these years. It's why he's desperate for the money Chaz claimed to have. And his lack of skill is the mafia business shows with the simple act of not having Chaz PROVE he actually had the money to begin with. When someone says they got money, you make them show it to you first.
Ok i saw this ep like 5 time at least. And only now i heard that Blitzo call Moxxy and Mille "a hotties".

Moxxie's mom doesn't have male horns. The person moxxie has to push in the water is just a different person. His mom was drowned before that scene and her shoe just came up to tell us that crimson killed her. So its still awful as hell but at least moxxie didn't have to kill her himself......
