On your way you've passed Postojna twice and didn't go to Postojna Cave, probably the greatest "wow" place in Slovenia?

I think the small fish are Whitebait, my parents had them a lot when I was growing up in the 70's. I'm not a big fan of seafood that isn't fish and chips, but I do occasionally like some fried Calamari :D

Whitebait is a term in the UK (at least) for pretty much any species of immature fish. They aren't gutted, you just eat them whole. Like somebody else mentioned, it seemed to have been a popular dish in the 1970s but has fallen out of fashion (it's probably not a good idea to remove so many baby fish from the sea anyway). It was certainly a treat when it was in fashion - I can't recall the last time I had them.

In England we often refer to the little fish as whitebait but they can often be any type of baby fish in the sardine/mackerel family. Quite a commonly available food here! Generally you find them totally whole and frozen I eat them just as you guys did never seen the bellys removed like that before though. Loved the video as always :)

Pirano has this "Venetian architecture" and really feels an Italian town because the city has always been inhabitated by Italians, and always belonged to the Italian cultural world. It is only with the anexation of Istria after WWII that the local comunity was ethnically cleased and substituted with slavs from the Interior of Yugoslavia

When I went to Koper (or Capodistria in Italian...), a couple of years back, I chuckled on the Piazza Tito in town. It's an interesting part of the world, with equally interesting history.

Those little fishes must be anchovies wich deep fried becomes a treat in terms of snacks, and the small ones are tastier. So no need to avoid them. In usa I guess they are used as bait for fishing, you don't see them bought by people and eaten like this, fresh deep fried.

The same is in many Croatian mass-tourism not too expensive "local" restaurants. Fresh sea food is usualy not deepfried like that and not served with french fries. But it looked tasty though :-)

@@valentintapata2268 :) Punta, the historical ‘point’ of Piran, still has a lighthouse, but today’s is small and relatively modern. Attached to it, however, is the round, serrated tower of the Church of St Clement, which evokes the ancient beacon from which Piran got its name. The church was originally built in the 13th century but altered 500 years later; it has a lovely (though decrepit) stuccoed ceiling.
      We are both right :)
