    Some Vienna recommendations: Cafes: Scwarzenburg, Prükel, Diglas, Landtmann are all good in the 1st district. Demel has great cakes but not much space but is well worht visiting to look at the chocolates. Cafe Central is busy but the Cafe Klimt, which was the Griensteidl, is close by and used to be decent.
    For hearty food the brewery pubs are usually good such as 1516 (in the 1st) 7Stern Bräu (in the 7th) , Wieden Bräu, (in hte 4th) Salm Bräu (in the 3rd by Belvedere), Fischer Bräu (in the 9th, a little out of the way but can be combined with a trip to the hills). For Viennese cooking the big tourist trap restaurant of Figlmüller is worth it for the schnitzel. A not too busy place with atmosphere in the 1st district is Brezl Gwölb.
    If you like beer and studenty/travellers food I'd also recommend Kolar which has great beer and fladenbrot (kind of a wood fired pitta bread with fillings). If you're in the city for longer it's well worth heading to a heuriger above the city.
    I love getting public transport, hiking and then just coming across a place but if you want to be more organised head to Nusdorf, Grinzing or Neustift am Walde. There are some tourist traps but it's fun to explore. There are city heurigen too such as the Zwolf Apostelkeller in the 1st district or Heuriger 10er Marie in the 16th. But really there are tonnes of place to explore particularly in the Spittelberg area (which has the best Christmas market).
    The Altes AKH campus of the university has a lot of decent affordable restaurants in it too in a main square that also has a Christmas market. Other cool places: Dots for Sushi on Mariahilferstrasse, Ramien in the 6th for noodles, or Indus in the 3rd for Indian food. But this is scratching the surface..

    • @Theendlessadventure
      @Theendlessadventure  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Tafelspitz was allegedly eaten every day by Franz Josef the second to last Austrian/Hungarian Emperor and the man that first declared war against the Russians in World War 1. Vienna was the capitol of the Austrian Empire which then included the Czech and Slovak Republics and Hungary. It was the European center of classical music. Franz Joseph Haydn was the father of the symphony here and Johann Strauss Jr and Sr were the waltz kings here. Don't forget Mozart and Schubert. I am writing a movie script about Austrian/Hungarian Emperor Franz Josef.

    OH! I`m so excited you discovered Reinthaler Beisl! Isn`t it great? The atmosphere, warmth and the dishes themselves. I`ve been there twice now and recommend it always to friends going to Vienna. I had it on my list of places to go to with my sister and niece. They had flown in from L.A. and I came in from Belarus. It was the perfect choice for Christmas morning after mass in 2017. I really love feeling your excitement, despite the wet weather. To me, Vienna always excites me, too, especially around Advent season. You really ought to return in late spring - just gorgeous!

    First I would like to say I like the style of the vid, you seem very natural in front of the camera and keep the vids coming!
    1:30 Cafe Central has developed into a tourist trap in the last years. Look at the line, hardly any locals there. There are coffee houses all over the city, many of them specializied in a specific clientel -> Central 4ex was the historical coffee house sociopolitical and philosophical discussions (rather progressive). There is no such thing as "the" coffee house.
    2:40 Around here you use "Prost" for wine and "Gesundheit" for beer. The first comes from he latin word Prosit which was used by such during their toasts of spiced wine. The latter derives from a "wish for good health" which was used in the Czechian and Bayuvaric regions for toasts - therefore usually with beer.
    2:52 Emmentaler comes from the Emmen Valley in Switzerland. The lemon is supposed to be served with fried meats (like Wiener Schnitzel) not cheese and the rasberry is supposed to go with red meats.
    3:03 There are several veg options on the menu ( I looked it up), an entire section - among others Eiernockeln, traditional Austrian noodles.
    4:31 If you want a place in Vienna known for their Tafelspitz try Plachutta.
    5:30 The white suace is a chive cream sauce.
    8:10 Melange is double coffee + milk + shot of water + milk foam (whipped cream is acceptable). Its not strong^^ If you want a that ask for a "turkish".
    9:13 To be precise its stewed plums or compote.

    There's is also Demel not far from Michaelerplatz for old world cafes and in the same building that Central Cafe is in try Beaulieu Epicerie Bistro that had the best dessert and coffee I had in Vienna. I didn't get a chance to go into Central Cafe on this visit...after 2 tries on different days of standing in line hunger won out.

    Watching this makes me want to visit Vienna for Xmas. I'm a vegetarian too, but I would totally go for the crispy skin of that pork knuckle.

    The best cakes in the city are Zuckero in the 12th district and the best ice cream in Veganista. If you visit Vienna in the Summer 💚 and for veggies : swing kitchens, veggiez, yamm, health kitchens (meat dishes and veggie dishes)....... Greets from Vienna 💚

      We were so happy we finally got to meet up with those two!! Tal from The Traveling Clatt actually met them a while ago and told us all we had to travel together. We were finally were all in Europe at the same time and managed to cross paths. And Tal was totally right, we love those beans!!

    The pork is a cousin of the German 'Schweinshaxe'. It is excellent if you can source pork knuckles (a.k.a, ham hock) from your butcher, and are generally cheap. There are plenty of videos on its preparation on TH-cam.

    I wish you showed more of the cities themselves not just food. Seems like you spend few days in each city, do a food tour and then move to another country. Nevertheless, was a nice video and I like the way you film your vlogs. Just wish I could see more of the place itself.

    Interesting Brit vs American fork workings. As an American I must admit the Brits use of the fork in the left hand seems more effective and sophisticated.

    Boiled beef might not sound appetising but it is a bit of a case of choosing between translations. You could call it beef stew, which is pretty much the same.

    I'm a 100% sure that Reinthalers Beidl has a whole section on their menu for vegetarian food. They have Käsespätzle, Eiernockerl, the fried Emmentaler obviously was vegetarian as well, vegetarian soups, sweet cuisine like Kaiserschmarrn, Germknödel, Marillenknödel,...

    First restaurant, The white sauce is horseradish in puréed form, Second restaurant in grated form

    • @inLmgb
      @inLmgb 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      not quite: the white sauce served with the Tafelspitz is "Schnittlauchsauce" - a sauce based on homemade mayonnaise with a bunch of finely cut fresh chives!
      But in the second restaurant they definitely served freshly grated horseradish! ;-)

    Dark roast coffees have less caffeine then light roasts. Toasted out of it. Stronger flavor which people mistake for caffine
