    0:41 Every other player in tennis history would have lost that point. But not Rafa.

    •  2 ปีที่แล้ว +41

      I swear he was leading Zverev to hit the cross court backhand.
      Nadal sort of measures his stride as to not over commit to running back which would open him up for Zverev to hit the ball "where he came from" and behind him.
      He's almost baiting the crosscourt so he can step on the gas and hit the running forehand in rhythm.
      The short diagonal passing shot that followed is just poetry in motion.
      I don't know whether that's just experience, mental fortitude, luck or just all of that and more.
      But yeah, Nadal hit some great shots in this match in times he needed them the most.
      And this one just might be the greatest and at the most important moment.
      Vamos

Had to miss out or withdraw from over a dozen grand slams and is still on 22 wins. He’s just other worldly compared to all other players. As good as Fed and Djok are Rafa is another level. He’s the GOAT by a country mile. Greatest tennis player/athlete the world has ever and will ever see. You hear me? GOAT. I loved the final, but because I really love Casper Ruud and, of course, because of the significance. But yeah, overall, the quality of the Round of 16 against Auger-Aliassime, the quarter-final vs Djokovic (the best match of the tournament for me) and the first set of the semifinals against Zverev (one of the best sets I've ever seen) was superior to that of the final.

    I really think that if zverev would be a more versatile player, he would have definitely won that first set. There were so many occasions were he just needed a regular drop shot for winning the point, and he never used that resource. Rafa was hitting every point like 5 meters behind the line, but zverev was just considering one way of playing the match. That is precisely why alcaraz has better chances of becoming the next number 1, he has a much larger variety in his game.

    • @ArthurVerhulst
      @ArthurVerhulst 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're absolutely right. In addition, many of those rallies in the vid Zverev lost bc of his unskillful netplay. An easy bh volley beyond the baseline and some crosscourt approaches rather than down the line, leaving a huge space for Rafa to hit into.
      The 6-4 point was splendidly constructed with that heavily angled FH, but had Zverev charged the net at THAT time he would have had an easy putaway.

The German comes back in clutches, gives a warm hug to R Nadal and the match is over. It was getting really really Tough from one player to another. Rafa the proverbial "GPS" (Greatest problem solver on a 🎾court in set 1 & 2 until 6-6) Horrible ending to the match though. Freak ankle injury cut short an epic match what could have been a continuous marathon between these two warriors. Get well soon Sascha, not the way us 🎾 fans would like to see an epic end. The German was the better player in both the sets, yet came up short in Set 1 & Set 2 which was pretty even until the ankle twist.
