    These are excellent options. With COVID19, I find that when I do home visits, I have to be creative and use what the patient and family have in their home. We don't bring in any equipment for infection control, so need to be mindful of the low income of a lot of these stroke patients with our public health system. I agree that the focus is on functional tasks, repetition, and reminding the hand what it used to do with the help of the "good" arm. the flaccid arm is tough to work with and we teach patients to be careful not to injury it while it is "dead" for lack of a better term.. Your experience is so valued guys. Thanks for posting!

    To get *something* happening in this movement type but on a limited budget, I found a large candy dish with a lid in the closet - the lid’s handle being sphere shaped - and monitor my partner’s exercise. It’s not perfect, but you get the ROM just lovely. Any container lid with a ball style grip, or other suitable flat object you can comfortably install a cabinet knob onto.

    I can never find information on recovering from hemiparesis due to a brain tumor/brain cancer. It’s always a stroke. Even when I was in the hospital after the brain resection I was treated as if I had a stroke. Is there a difference in how are you rehab?

    I had a Pontine Stroke in 2011. Now hemiplegic. No use of hand or raising of arm. Do you believe it is too late to use this for improvement? I was told I plateaud. Thank you.

    • @orangemoonglows2692
      @orangemoonglows2692 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      ok. i'm not a physical therapist and i don't know exactly what you're dealing with. but i'm dealing with someone who's had a stroke. never believe in the idea of plateau. imo, plateauing is something insurance says. i really don't think it's scientific. read some books related to neuoplasticity. you must rewire your brain. basically, it's saying you have to do things over and over. that's what they said in this video - repetition. you must keep trying. perhaps your therapists don't know what else to do or they don't have the skill. you must persist. read the brain's way of healing by norman doidge. people regain abilities well after these so-called experts say they shouldn't. good luck.

    Good advise, the arm has to put the feedback up to the brain again. I guess when you don't use it, the brain doesn't feel the connection to regrow collateral circulation like the heart repairs from blocked cardiac muscle because it's moving all the time. 😃
