My 2024 X has the horn in the middle of the steering wheel, (thank you Tesla) So far going on 8,000 miles it has been really nice. With the State and Federal tax incentives the long range price came down to 70K, which for me was the final deal maker. I drove the Y, which really is a great value, but the X rode better, has really fast charging, and I wanted the extra cargo space.
I've been waiting, but with Trump coming back and likely to kill EV tax credits, I am going to jump at the Stealth Grey for $70k after credit and referral bonus. My wife loves her 2018 Model S. One son has an S, the other a Y. I'm the only one in the family not driving a Tesla. I want in!
Model Y and Model X are on two different planets. Sound system, technology, ambience comfort and screens, there's just that much value that the model x brings you that Model Y does not. The only thing I'd change is waiting a few months before i bought mine because Tesla decreased the price a lot but apart from that, i would not switch to the Y
X LR is such a good car. 5 or 7 seat for a fam van with cargo capacity. The Y is amazing too, but falcon wings, air suspension, 20+ speaker sound, automatic doors, triple screen… I’d still be happy with either though. Love Teslas.
I owned a 2021 model x performance and just traded it in on a 2024 model y lr. That was after the fsd transfer incentive was made available this summer. Completely agree with all your bullet points. I also believe the x is lagging behind the 3/y in tech updates. My y receives the latest fsd on the initial wave of firmware updates. The x was always on the tail end and typically lagged months behind. Having the fsd visualization on the big center screen is definitely an improvement over the x center screen. Also the cabin noise is quieter in my new model y. My x had a wind whistle when driving over 60mph coming from drivers side window. Mobile service tried to fix it a couple times but still was present. You didn't mention efficiency, but my x was 80-100 wh/mi less efficient over my y. Makes a big difference in charge time and cost on longer road trips. My wife said she thinks the seats in model y are more comfortable. This is debatable but the x is definitely not a 2x jump in comfort relative to price.
I have the model X 100D since 2017 and the Y Performance since 2023. There is absolutely no comparison in the space, ride quality, technology and features, as well as the comfort of the model X to the model Y. The model Y, even when I replaced the 21” rims with 18” rims and 55 profile tires, feels like a go cart with doors and a laptop in the middle. The model X feels like something between a BMW 7 series and a Mercedes S class in terms of ride quality. Air suspension and the frame of the vehicle make a huge difference for those who don’t only consider the price. Close the door on a Model Y and then on a model X and that’s all you need to understand the quality difference. I love my model X.
Considering a Model X but waiting for a front camera. I’m sensing the non-Plaid version is the way to for me. Also Robert I get your point about luxury but I think it’s tough to have luxury with a young child and all the kid stuff. Best to you and thanks for your videos.
Well, the whole community is saying the same thing: MX and MS just don't get enough love from Tesla despite costing 2 to 3 times more, it becomes ridiculous and frustrating to keep buying those vehicles! Very sad because MX is really something - but owners, along with the car, are mistreated for the premium they pay!
I have a 2023 Model 3 and my husband now LOVES Teslas. We test drove a Model X last week and have also test driven 2024 Model 3. He wants a luxury SUV and if the Model Y Juniper drives like the refreshed Model 3, he is not going to be satisfied with the lack of air suspension. Our concern is that the Model X is not getting perks of other Teslas, such as interior lighting and drive by wire. He has decided to wait until next year and see if the refreshed Model Y is good enough and what happens with Model X.
I couldn't help but take advantage of the promotion. We decided to lease for 2 years because we couldn't get the EV tax credit any other way due to income cap. Not sure if it was the right move or not but we are excited to get the car!
Regarding your front door automatically opening all the way for you. My experience has been if you approach the car from the back/rear without getting in the way, the door will open all the way for you to get in. If you approach the car from the side and stand in the way, it only opens 6 inches. That's been my experience. I love my new 3 week old 2024 Model X. 1st and only Tesla I've ever owned. I bought this car because Elon supports free speech and Trump. If I have time, I hand wash, or use touchless basic wash if needed.
I just bought a 2024 Y SR because the X just didn’t seam worth 2 Y’s. The dealer by me only had 5 or 6 seat configurations and I could not sit in third row at 6ft tall. Even if I set the passenger side with minimal room for myself in first and second row my right knee was still wedged against wall. Does any know if the third row in the seven seat has more room for people with legs. Being that this is my first EV and all my 3 kids are grown/tall, I just couldn’t justify $90k. I can say that I am enjoying EV life as long as I can avoid Tesla service as they f-ing suck. It took five months and five trips to finally fix all problems from delivery day/month. At this point I will just deal with the paint defects left by their repairs because every time I get the car back there was something else they messed up. Getting it paint corrected and ceramic coated again to deal with paint over spray from another repair. Service center said they will reimburse me for it but not having someone else paint it properly. Their painter they use sucks. I hand wash my car (Y SR) with only 2 gallon of water in my garage. Ceramic company gave me a no rinse wash that you just dry with towel.
After reading the comments, I now understand it's the best car in the world and it's the worst car in the world. OK now I'm ready to plunge into the debate over the CyberTruck
Hey Robert, thanks for the info in this video. My question is I’m looking to get into a Tesla this year but can only really afford one that’s about mid thirties. Should I go for an older model X (16-18) preferably the 6 seat config. Or used model y 19-2020? Personally I like and want the space of the X after driving one. I have 2 young kids that are in car seats front facing? What do you or anyone else recommend?
Does the Yoke hit your legs when you drive and turn? I may hit the order now! hmmmm.... No, I need all options or at least 2 included, I want silver and 7 seats... Are you going through a carwash? no issues with that or is it touchless? I really want to know if the 7 seater over the 5 is worth it. If you get a 7 seater can you move the middle row back and forth and on the 5 is it stationary and give less overall leg room? Thanks.
I wish Tesla offered a Model X without the falcon wing doors. I’m very interested in the Model X but holding out to see what the Model Y Juniper has to offer (or perhaps a Tesla Van 🤓)
Sooo... two things, that, I guess you didn't touch base on... How quiet is the interiors. And, are there local service centers, and if there are, how good are they. Or are they just like the dealership service centers for other cars, who try to gypp you for everything they can? Oh, and I heard Auto insurance is the thing of the past for these !
I agree . I was expecting more luxury..I say this and everyone says tesla focuses on simplicity. Boring. My x pops and cracks horribly!! Under the seats ...the windshield...the a pillar. It's driving me f... crazy.
Yeah.... since owning a Model Y, makes me wanna buy Model X, but you are right... it's so outdated... and it is wise to wait until they redesign the vehicle.
All Teslas have power, so don't go performance/plaid unless there is a good deal. So you can pretty much based your decision on other things. E.g. space, size, price, looks, features etc
Tesla will discontinue X and S at some point, mu guess is sooner rather than later. Musk said they only make them for sentimental reasons. That's where Polestar can step in with its 3 and 4 models, and then Lucid with Gravity.
Bruh, I have a Model Y and there's no luxury. Heck, the Y owners wanna move up to an X. Somebody recommended to start at the 25 min mark and heck, I gave it 3 minutes and quit.
Own a MX and MYP, the X is def not worth double the price. Tesla all but ignores the X and S. It's worth it if you need a family vehicle (6-7seater) and want to stick with Tesla. However personally, if i had to do it over again I would buy a Rivian. I stuck with tesla for the charging infrastructure / ecosystem but that really hasn't been an issue. Hands down, Rivian and Lucid are luxury vehicles, Tesla is a Chevy with a luxury price.
Ive had an X for 1 year now. Nothing but problems. Cheap build, constant issues with tech and overall cheap “luxury” would not recommend anyone to buy this car

Thank you. I was ready to skip this video until I saw your comment.
No way I would give up an x for a y , love my plaid 2023 x. It’s fast, smooth and quiet . If you can afford it go with x
Yeah, but if you were pressured to make a new video, you might start saying it just to make a video.

A comfortable "road trip" vehicle, is a comfortable commute vehicle, it may not work for you but it works for a lot of us.
