That was great. I've been trying to study the union sharp shooters. It is hard to find information on them. I also just bought to go with my collection of civil war soldiers the berdan union sharp shooters figurines. Thank you for the video.
Very interesting episode especially info on Western units. I have always had an interest in Western Theater sharpshooter units. My 3-great grandfather recruited a company of sharpshooters intended for Birge’s Sharpshooters. To qualify the shooter had to make a 24-inch string at 200 yards. His co. Was never taken into Birge unit and becam 6th co. of Ohio independent Sharpshooters.
Do you have a list of the 100 Berdan 1st USS in the Pitzer Woods Battle? My G. Grandfather was Eli Cook and in 1st USS Company I. We believe he was at Pitzer Woods because of an Eaton Rapids, MI newspaper article after he attended either the 25th or 50th Gettysburg reunion. Word of mouth was that he backed up on Little Roundtop after. I do, and did share the photo with Gettysburg historians when there one time. The photo was taken at the 25th reunion from where he is thought to be where he was firing from. It was about 250 feet down from the big pointed rock you see to the South when at the visitors area on Little Roundtop. Rocks are stacked and with some higher to I expect his head in the direction of Devils Den. He was a Corporal at Gettysburg.
Casper Trepp is buried at Green-Wood Cemetery, Brooklyn, NY. He was in an unmarked grave. He now has a military head stone. He was given a commemoration during the unveiling. He was quite the sharpshooter.
But, but, but...only the southern boys could shoot and do so accurately! They shot their dinner while the northerners just went to the grocery store...right?...
Not sure what this is referring to exactly, but, we must say those things to keep humble from all the positive feedback we get. Mustn’t let it go to our heads and we become monsters. Thank you for the kind words, though.
I just think you joke about yourselves too much putting yourself a down you guys do a great job unraveling not so clear histories and mysteries of the battle but you folks come across with self doughts maybe some professional person is not giving you folks credit

Bodan's Sharpshooters - LEGENDS
Lesser-known than Berdan’s, but just as effective.
Great episode!!
Thank you

@10:46 I remember when I used to get the irish brigade toy soldiers and they were all green. No wonder everyone thinks they're Irish
Lol

Yes, please more about Berdan’s men. Not talked enough.
Well revisit it in the future. Glad you liked it
Very interesting. Any reading references would be appreciated.
But, but, but...only the southern boys could shoot and do so accurately! They shot their dinner while the northerners just went to the grocery store...right?...
Hahaha exactly
(Shelby Foote voice )One southern boy was worth ten yankee hiiiiyalings
Although I like him he was a better story teller than a historian.
Six questions is like the Jackie Martling of your show. Always laughing in the background.
Exactly! I realized that just the other week. And like Jackie, his off-mic laughs kill me
14 miles is a long way?
Is Charlie English??
I believe some kind of Scandinavian or Norwegian or something. He told me once before but I forget.
I'll take Charlie's or Ralph seigels assessments over the Guelzo types
👍
