- This is the LG G4. LG's latest flagship phone of 2015. It has a similar design to the LG G3 but it now has a curved display, an amazing camera and the option to throw some leather on the back.
The LG G4 is one of the only flagship phones this year that offer a removable back. Is this the best smartphone of 2015? Lets's find out.

Thanks for the review. How is the microphone on the G4? My whole family has LG Optimus Gs with AT&T and the microphones on them were terrible in louder environments, a problem I never had before, say at concert or performances with loud speakers. Did you test this? Has anyone tried recording sound at a concert in a bar or something?

Matthew Moniz Thanks for the response. I'll await your reply before I pick my next phone. But I gotta do it within a month cause I think after that AT&T will force me onto their NEXT plan which is much more expensive. Trying to choose basically between the S6 and the G4, unless you have other recommendations that beat them. I want the G4, but only if the mic is able to record a singer at a concert, otherwise I'll have to go with the S6, even though it's battery and storage suck. Do you have any overheating issues? When I put my Optimus G on a charger it always has to dim the screen some to cool itself and whenever I run maps and place it in a windshield cradle, it always does the same as well.

How is turning on silent mode annoying/hard? You have two toggles in the notification bar. (The big blue one, but you can also just tap the icon in front of the slider) or you could just keep lowering it until it goes into the modes you want... I'd call that a normal way to do it... Or am I unable to see a much easie way?
+Ben Vangenechten Before it got an update (around the time I reviewed) In order to put the phone on silent you had to go deep into your settings. There was no toggle option. That has obviously been fixed.
Okay, Then I haven't said a thing! Because that is something dumb to overlook...

It does have wireless charging...you just need to get the right case with the hole at the front. To make the setting display you can still switch it to "list" view.

That's the first time any review has ever mentioned that the G4's front and back cams can both video record in 4K. I just want to verify I';m understanding that right, because that would be a huge perk as front cams, the selfie cam, is usually much less resolution. This is confusing the front cam would be lower res for pics, but can somehow record video in as high quality as the back camera. How can this be?

yes
you can have wireless charging, if you get the cover with the port hole on the front that displays a clock many different types of clocks of your choice , and also gives you quick access to a lot of or any of your apps , that you select for to have in the portal. you can also buy a strip that touches of the two terminals in the back your phone and then you put your back cover on your phone and it will charge wirelessly. just thought I would let you know thank you.
At 3:48 how did you get rid of the question mark on the weather widget

Great battery life? I'm coming from Z3 compact that used to last 2 days but with G4 have to charge it 5 pm, after 8-9 hours of moderate use.
+rüştü cüneyt güren The G4 has good battery life. Definitely not 2 days, but it should get you through the whole day without any issues. If you're charging at 5pm you must be more of heavy user. What do you do mostly with your phone?
I am far from being a heay user. No games at all. Only srabble, checking hourly at the most, which, I assume a very battery friendly game. Mainly texting, taking a look at facebook posts and twitter. 10 minutes of calls, in total. That's it. I disabled some of the bloatware too. I use it as a tech-hesitant 80 year-old would do. Have always been like this. Oh and taking photos, 20-30 the most. Very dissappointed with its battery. Apart from this everything is great.
That's really weird. You should check your battery usage and see if any apps are draining it in the background
On the settings if you tap the top right dots then it can turn into the scroll settings

i love my g4 better than my old note 4 .l recived my 128gb memory card and extra battery .I can't be more happy .the only problem is sometimes missing screen touch and sometimes u don't know with the phone heat up and sometimes not :( .....is weird ????
Tony MTA I heard about the screen touch issue. Luckily, I haven't experienced and Ive used two G4s. Every once in awhile it gets a tiny bit hot, but nothing compared to some of the other phones on the market. Overall, I'm really impressed! Thanks for watching = )
Only time when back speaker really bugs me is when G4 is on the bed. I never cover it with my palm enough to muffle it to much, most of the time it is to loud. On table or anything flat there isnt much difference, sometimes it bounces of and creates even better sound at bathroom. for example.
roki977 I keep accidentally covering it and the sound quality could be a bit better. But to honest, the external speakers are not the most important feature to me. Most of the time i have earbuds in if I''m listening or watching something. Besides the speakers, how are you liking the rest of the phone?
I am an ex G3 owner and G4 is better in almost every way, more or less. I like it and the camera was the main reason for the purchase and it delivers, esc. in manual mod which is very simple and well sorted..
I'm not sure if this was a software update or not but you can change the settings view into the list view making similar to the iPhone or a stock Android. Definitely way more preferable then before

Niels Junker Thanks Niels!! If you have the S6 Edge, there's really no point in swapping for the LG G4 unless you want a bigger screen and better battery life.
Nice review and well done by Andrea. This is more like G3 2015 Edition or G3,5. In my opinion definitely not worth upgrading from any 2014 flagship. Lets see what LG has in store later this year or next year.

+Triforce71 I'd definitely still rather have the LG G4. Better camera, better screen and faster phone. The only advantage the turbo has is much better battery life and more of a stock Android experience.

I love my G4. Design is purely subjective and I really like the build. I prefer the leather and plastic over a heavier, fragile metal and glass unibody design. I've had no performance issues and the battery life has been good, averaging about 6 hours of on-screen time. Plus the camera is awesome. The G4 is by far the best phone I've ever owned.

The front facing camera is 8mp and records in 1080p at its max...not in 4k....just pointing that out :)
To put your phone on silent is an issue? How exactly? Pull down notification shade and hit the speaker icon. Simple.
Phone Daft Yes, it's supposed to be that simple. But before the LG G4 got an update it was hard to find the silent mode option. You had to enable a toggle in the settings menu so that it would show up on the Quick Access menu. recomhub.com/blog/how-to-use-silent-mode-do-not-disturb-mode-on-lg-g4/

For wireless charging you just need to buy some acessories but the G4 can wireless charge and it does quick charge and battery life itself is good so you not losing out.
I agree the battery life is good. Quick charging is great and I know you can buy an accessory to wireless but it would been nice if it was built in. It's not a deal breaker or even a big deal. But it's a well balanced phone. Thanks for watching!

This is an amazing video but i have been using the g4 and i have to say i think the speakers are much better than ones ive had on any of my previous phone. I got confused here but you can switch the settings from tab to list view if you would like it.

Matthew Moniz I was using the G3, I personally love LG, my entire family uses Samsung and ny last 3 phones have been LG along with others in the past.
pretty good review. except the camera sensor is not the same as the gs6, unless you meant the same amount of pixels. lg made their own sensor.

Though the LG G4 doesn't have wireless charging "out of the box", if I'm not mistaken it is "prepared for it, so that it can be "easily" upgraded to support it.
Just buy a new bac cover that "supports" it.

Great review. I like your honest, opinionated approach. At the end of the day the phone are so close, it helps to get someone's opinion instead of comparing specs.. Yawn. Just one thing, don't compass re th gs6 to the g4.. Their screens differ so vastly in size, u cudnt possibly have a similar experience.

And welcome to the channel = ) The screens on the G4 and GS6 are different and you're right due to the size do provide a different experience when consuming media. They're both awesome sceens but I still think the GS6 in terms of display quality is better. It's brighter and has a better viewing experience outdoors.

Just returned my 3rd GS6 Gold 64 gig edge, all 3 of them had hardware problems, from the camera the hardware buttons at bottom to the task hardware button. I got the G4, im loving it no problems so far at all. Only thing I don't like is the speaker at the bottom back. Runs much faster smoother UI, call quality is great tap to wake is awesome it still has quick charge and battery last all day EASILY. 10 times better than the GS6, and camera is just as good or even better than the S6 slighty better. Also the slight curve to the screen is bad ass, feels really good against your face and the leather back is the shit, I got the tanned leather, feels fantastic, does not hurt the hand like the edge does after 20 min of being on a call lol.

she did a great review on the G4. I own a G4 and love it. The only thing I disagree with that she said was the colors on the S6 are more accurate than the G4. I personally think that the G4's QHD Quantum IPS LCD display actually has more true to life colors than the S6's over saturated, washed out Super Amoled display. The G4's display was designed to reproduce more accurate colors and is why LG went with it. I have owned a Galaxy phone and know all about the displays, I even own a Galaxy Tab 4 10.1 Tablet. I hate the Ghosting effect that appears in the blacks on Samsung's Super Amoled displays.
BIGGDUBBYA I agree the G4 does have better colours, but I do prefer the brightness of the S6. Either way, both displays are pretty awesome! Thanks for dropping a comment and watching the video.

Comparison of camera
Did you really say that "it does a good job in recording video" ? Didn't you see how aggressive the stabilization is during recording? I really like this phone but the poor video recording makes me not to buy this phone because the footage is unusable imo.

I would rather see a fix from LG because this is simply unacceptable for a phone at this price point. Pictures are amazing but filming is simply horrible and the image you shoot is not usable at all because you missing a lot of details. Sadly you see this with a lot of so called "flag ship phones". The incompetence of most phone manufacturers in making a phone without issues is becoming the most taxing for customers. Samsung is one of the worst to be honest, so LG isn't that bad at all. HTC has the worst customer care center so i would most definitely not go for an HTC at any price.
i bet it was 4 k and no phone can record such a shaky video flawlessly... give the phone a break .... in 1080p its much better....

This year LG made big leap with G4 exceptional camera with lots improvements except LG software UI . I guess , LG should be work on their software UI & make it is close to stock android & remove some bloatware apps . I really like android stock UI . it's clean & fast.
Now, LG G4 & Samsung S6 those are top android phones in the market. But, only concern with their UI
I'm really excited about upcoming Oneplus 2 & Moto X 3rd gen & hope they will become better competitor for S6 & G4 .
Exactly! G4 is great minus the UI. But its their best phone yet. I'm excited for the Moto X 3rd Gen. Not so much the OnePlus Two. Kind of sick of their marketing campaign it's a total turn off. But of course I'll review the phone and I'm sure it will be good.

Thanks to Carl pie finally they remove Invite System .. but, according to their revealed it has a 810 ver2.1 SD processor / figure print scanner / USB C type / massive battery / Metal frame / better camera under 400- 300$(may be) .. That's make them better approach in price to performance ratio .. Anyways ..we will look further :)

My phone is weird, i just recently got it and when i played games for the first time the battery got really hot. But after a while it wouldn't get nearly as hot, which is a good thing lol.

why would you hope I should never have to use the flash in the camera? it works bad ass! Samsung is not more accurate by simply being high contrast! Punchier not accurate! You can put the menu in list mode chick! You can also buy a wireless charger adapter to fit in the battery on Amazon for cheap! I just bought one a month ago after testing the s6 , which is awesome but you just can't justify the s6 price and smaller screen real estate against the g4! your getting much more phone and damn near equal performance and goes blow for blow! That is real world usage facts! Good review though overall .

Not out of the box. You have to buy a special case or rip out the nfc sticker from the back of the backplate. Most people wouldn't do this, especially the average consumer. Thanks for commenting and for watching the video!
