  • I bought 2 pairs of prescription glasses from Zenni Optical about 6 months ago and 2 pairs from EyeBuyDirect last month. I am giving an overview of the 4 pairs of glasses and seeing which ones seem to be the better of the two companies.

Thank you! I just ordered a pair from Eye Buy Direct to replace an aging pair with worn off coating that is making things hazy. Fingers crossed!

very good review. I recently had to replace some glasses (Progressive lenses with transitions) and shopping "brick and mortar" chains was worse than buying a used car---dozens of permutations on pricing. Blatant "bait and switch". Add-ons for every conceivable thing. Vision insurance (a Luxotica company) that essentially only applied to over priced frames (luxotica only) and actually cost more than paying cash at Walmart or Costco. Lenscrafters had a "sale" that ended up with a quote of $850!! I purchased from Americas Best for less than half. I read a lot--and 2 days ago ordered a pair of prescription readers from EyeBuyDirect--only $30 including delivery--we'll see how it goes...

In terms of prescription, I am planning to get a rewing my prescription lenses because I am due for a renewal. They get your prescription as it is. They do not mess it up when you have provided them with the correct prescription.

Bruh! I came for serious comparisons, but dig the first dad joke.
    The first one.
Still, looking forward to the video.

I buy photochromic progressive glasses - both reviewed companies are pricey. After extensive comparison I started ordering from Payne glasses - very good frame selection (I prefer metal), unbeatable price, very good progressive design, huge choice of lenses, fantactic AR coating, 1 week delivery. I wanted to get 1 pair from Zenni to compare but didn't feel that paying much more was worth it when glasses from payne worked so well for me

I just went for an eye exam at Lenscrafters. Afterwards, I went to the Optical section of the clinic. One pair of glasses, I looked at, would cost $508.62. A cheaper pair that I also looked at would cost $437.62.
They don't take my insurance, but they said that I should check with my insurance company still because they might reimburse me.
I have a high prescription though.
I am -9.00 myopic with -0.75 astigmatism in right eye.
I am -8.25 myopic with -1.50 astigmatism in left eye.

I bought a new pair of prescription sunglasses with the bells and whistles a month ago from Zenni for less than $100.
I doubt your insurance will reimburse you. That’s just what they say to make a sale. Though, it is possible. I’m not an insurance adjuster. But it’s more often your health savings account that reimburses you.

I have both UCare PMAP (Prepaid Medical Assistance Program) and a UCare Healthy Savings Account.
I double-checked with my insurance today. They don't cover at all for glasses purchased at Lenscrafters.
However, there is another place that I went to look at glasses. My UCare PMAP would cover the cost of the frames and basic lenses. However, they would not cover for any upgrades to the lenses, such as "high index lenses" and "anti-reflective coating". I looked at glasses from that place and found one I liked. After insurance coverage, I would only pay $120 out-of-pocket (the cost of both the high index lenses and anti-reflective coating). The only thing I do not like is that the eyeglass frames I liked is made out of plastic. I've had previous issues with plastic frames breaking apart.
My UCare Healthy Savings Account would not cover anything, it's only used to purchase nutritious food items.

Today I went to update my prescription from 2.5 years earlier at the same lenscrafter location. With my vision insurance and rayban frams my costs was $321 in 2021. Today a similar rayban frame, same uprades with varilux lenses was almost $670 lol. I downgraded to plastic lenese with the same upgrades and paid $192. Its insane that the costs have raised dramatically in 2.5 years. My prescription includes the need for progressive lenses do you have any experiences ordering progressive lenses through any of these online retailers?
Great channel by the way. New subscriber here ❤

I’m close. I don’t NEED progressives yet but I likely will soon. At least that’s what they eye doc said last month when I renewed my prescription.

I must be an odd duck then because I ALWAYS use the cloths - NEVER use a sleeve. Always worried about scratching! I wear progressives. Different prescription in each eye for distance and only one has an astigmatism. And of course my reading prescription. My frustration is I will LOVE a style of glasses, they work for progressive, but then as go to add my prescription it always says that the glasses are not available for my prescription. So frustrating. I get that on all sites and if I get a list based on my prescription- same thing :( so I never can get the most. As far as accuracy and quality. Some are just as good as the in-store but lenses are always better from in-store even if the prescription is correct. Also accuracy has been hit and miss and I have ordered online for 10 years or more. Even so - great bargain and nice to have options!

My wife works at an eye doctor chain that sells glasses.
They had to raise their prices about 70% because the supplier did. They now offer financing options. With my wife’s discount, my good vision insurance, and even with the gift card for glasses twice a year, I still get mine online. (Her boss doesn’t like that but oh well). Glasses are cheaper online. If the stores don’t like that, they can find new suppliers.

So, the EyeBuyDirect's eyeglass lenses were better (more clearer, better blue light blocking, etc.) than Zenni's?

    • @TheDadBod
      @TheDadBod  2 ปีที่แล้ว

I’m pretty sure that was the case. The end of the video I went over the outcome.

I bought a pair of prescription glasses from EyeBuyDirect. When I first received them, I noticed small bubble-like cracks around the right hinge area. Also, when I would fold and open up the temple arms, it would feel tight and there were crackling noises coming from the frames.
I talked to the company about it. I told them that it didn't bother me that much, but that if it the frames started to break down to the point of me not being able to properly wear them anymore, then I will request for a free replaceable pair of prescription glasses sent to me. They seemed fine with that idea.
In regard to the lenses. The lenses are okay, but they don't seem any better even with the water-resistant coating on them. I still get a lot of smudges on the lenses.

You can bend the temple to get a better fit. Do not assume the manufacturer has a legal right to keep the frame in factory configuration. Ideally you should not have to change anything, but it is not that hard to search TH-cam for the how to video.

My wife works at an eye doctors office as a tech. I’m planning on including her with the next one. She may be on video, may just let me know what she thinks.
