Just to make people aware, when you get your eye exam from your regular eye doctor make sure you get the PD (pupil distance) measurement, you will need it when you order online

Lens manufacturers need to know the distance between your pupils so that they can customize the lenses to fit your eyes with a particular frame. Just ask your doctor when you get your eyes examined. Usually pupil distance is measured at the glass shop when you buy a pair, but you need to enter the value yourself when you order glasses online.

@@Corn22 yes, the standard lenses or the 1 up from standard may not work 4 u. The standard and 1 up from standard don't cost any extra. Anything more than that costs extra $. I did get 1 pair with 1 up from standard just to see if they would work(figured why not as the frames AND lenses together were only $7) they took a little longer to acclimate to than the other pairs I got with the more expensive lenses. But, they still work fine after I adjusted to them. I'm very happy with zenni! I now have 11 pairs from them. The most expensive pair with lenses and all were only $21. I've only had great experiences with them! Edit: my sister has been using zenni for years. I can't believe I didn't order sooner. Our vision insurance only pays $100 wholesale price for frames every 2 years. So, I would pay around 130$ every 2 years with insurance for 1 pair! I do wrestle with the fact that I'm no longer supporting a small business in my community tho. But, if that doesn't bother you, or ur in a financial pinch- can't do and better than Zenni optical!!!!😊

I’m now purchasing a few pairs from EBD, it seems like there’s less variety (still plenty) but seems higher quality. I don’t have the glasses yet, so I don’t know that that’s true, but the website seems better laid out and the frames actually have names so it’s much easier to keep track of what I like and find it again

  • @SueRosalie

Tip for anyone buying cheap glasses online. There is a manufacturing step that cheap places omit, to save time but you should insist on this step, that good labs do as routine. That is, make sure they polish the lens edge, to make them clear, otherwise you get that unsightly white rim around the lens that spoils the look of your frames, makes the lens look thicker and makes your glasses look cheap. This step is a one minute finishing step at the end of the lens grinding process but makes all the difference. My first pair of glasses from Vision Direct had this step omitted and I made a request on the next pair of glasses and they complied. At first they didn't know what I was talking about to had to send them photos to show them the difference. You should always mention this in your order.

I have purchased many glasses from Zenni for myself, familly and friends. This includes bifocal, varifocal photochromic and various tints or anti reflective. Always excellent quality and value. They do different sizes in a few of their frames. However, they also give the dimensions, so you can check the size against your existing glasses for comparison. You can also choose small, medium or large in their search engine.
Incidently, I prefer the larger frames (the ones you got from EBD) on you. I would recomend next time you buy from Zenni to buy larger, but don't go over the top larger.

@The Real Deal I should have clarified, I meant distance vision. Most people's distance vision goes through a period of stability in the 30s. Close up vision does start to deteriorate due to ageing past mid 40s. Which is why I went from simple short sightedness (with a period of improved vision), to needing multifocals after 50.

On zenni if you pick a frame look down under the try on section, there are stats for every frame. There is also a search engine where you can just put in large, medium or small, and many other options and it will bring up all the frames in that size.
Ive purchase 5 frames from zenni, on average I paid 80 each, so about 400 (3 are transition bifocals, 1 gradient tinted rose bifocals, and 1 bifocal with UV and water protection). I also got a pair from America's best, one pair, no extras except bifocal and UV coating, for 440.
They are all great from Zenni. I like having different colors and styles to wear for less than one pair from retail places.

    Great info.
I have an astigmatism & wear Transition Progressive glasses.
My 1st pair I bought was from Walmart because I'm cheap. lol- However, that pair cost me $600! And they scratched so easily using Walmart's cleaning cloths! I think they scratched because I had every coating they offered which is a bad idea. The more coatings? The more they'll start peeling or wearing off easily.
My 2nd pair of Progressive Transition Glasses was from 39sollarglasses online & I've been wearing them now for over 2yrs, total cost was $289 & they are perfect!
I just ordered similar frame (Munroe frames) Photocromic, Scratch & Glare proof Progressive glasses from Eyebuydirect & those were $95! (Total Price w/ 30% discount code)
luckily I have my PD on my prescription, which many people don't & it's hard to get. I need transition glasses, sunlight kills me. Nice info..

Your style is so cute!!! Love this video even if I didn’t wear glasses!!! Wanted to share some info I just discovered:
Regarding “transitions” you’re right, fairly stupid because if you drive a car that is 20yrs old or younger, the windshield has a UV blocker that prevents the sun rays from turning transitions dark. IOWs, they don’t work while driving, which is when I need sunglasses the most. Also, when you come back inside, and they’re dark, they’re very slow to lighten back up. ( this is my husband’s testimony who wears transitions)
I’ve only researched Zenni so far, but I need high index AND progressives. So for Progressives, they have 3 choices, near, medium, and standard. Near says its 3-5 inches for close up like sewing, etc. medium is 10-15” for reading, etc. standard is 20” for computer use etc. well, some of us need all!!! I chatted with them and found out the NEAR and NEDIUM don’t even have the distance script on them. So they are basically just readers! It does not tell you this on website, the chat person told me this, so buyer beware.
And again, girl you are the cutest!!!

Hi, I have a fairly high near-sighted prescription (-7.50 in one eye, -5.75 in the other) and have ordered from Zenni for 10 years. One pair of Zenni's lasted me 6 years and were still really good. Only reason I replaced was that I got a new Rx. If you're worried about durability I'd go for plastic or the thicker metal frames. Anything thin might be flimsy depending on how hard you are on glasses. My plastic frames have lasted me years and years. If you're talking about the lenses however, I've never had an issue with scratching or breakage or cracked coatings. But I'm not particularly rough on my glasses and I only take them off to sleep so they're not tossed around a lot.

@@lolablack1111 Sorry for the late reply! I ordered the 1.67 High index lenses. It does increase the price a lot. I think those were $30 extra, but the 1.74 would be the better option for your RX, but you could probably still get away with the 1.67, which, yes, will be pricey on their own. It's still much less than you would pay for high index in store though. Mine are usually around $400 in store with a much much lower index and I paid around $90 for them at Zenni with the upgraded lenses. So all in all, still a much better deal.

First of all i'm very impressed with your knowledge of glasses. I',m a retired optician and as such have fitted several hundred young ladies with their glasses and a good number of them with their very first pair of glasses, so they really had no idea how glasses were supposed to look on them or fit them. You are very correct that you never want your eyebrows blocked or covered by the top of your glasses. In your case with the clear pair like you said being clear your eyebrows are still visible. If they had been a solid dark pair I don't think you or I would like them on you. The other things I always looked for when fitting glasses to someone was that the frame wasn't too wide or too narrow fro their face size. Then I would check to see that their eyes were as close to being centered in the lenses as close as possible from side to side and top to bottom. Lastly I would check the fit across the bridge, or nose area so they weren't too tight or too wide or left space showing between the nose and glasses that shouldn't show.
I'm still with a not for profit group that provides eye exams and glasses for low income people. We used to use only donated glasses for those people but now we pretty much only use Zenni for their glasses needs. A while back i placed and order for 3 pairs of glasses for various people so the prescriptions were different for all 3 pairs. I used Eye Buy Direct because their prices was about equal to Zenni. But I was charged a separate shipping for each pair even though they were on the same order form at the same time and all shipped to my house. So $15.00 shipping. When I order from Zenni I only pay one shipping charge no matter how many pairs I order. So only a one time cost of $5.00. That's a $10.00 difference and enough that I never ordered from Eye Buy again. So since you ordered 2 pairs i'm curious what the shipping cost you?
As for the glasses, i honestly like all 4 pairs on you. They all look great on you. In fact I hope that you don't take this the wrong way but even as nice as you look without glasses, glasses really seem to add to your looks. So if you were to ask me if you look better without glasses or better with glasses I would tell you with glasses. I really hope that doesn't offend you in anyway.
So that wire frame from Eye Buy Direct is your first pair of glasses since you were very young that has the adjustable nose pads on them. I'm not at all surprised that you have come to enjoy wearing them and that you aren't bothered with the nose pas leaving nasty red marks embedded in the sides of your nose. You found the secret to wearing glasses with adjustable nose pads and that's the reason their called "adjustable" You just have to be rather careful adjusting them yourself because you could break them off if you're not careful about adjusting them. With the nose pads adjusted and being as light weight as they have to be and since you clearly don't have a prescription all that strong which which means your lenses can't weigh much at all you should hardly even feel like you have glasses on when you wear them. By the way if you don't mind my asking what is your prescription?
Anyway I am being totally honest when i say that as far as quality and price of the glasses they are both really great on line sites. I even recommend them both toy other people.
By the way besides these 4 pairs of glasses how many more do you have that are in your current prescription? But even having 4 pairs is still a very good start of having yourself a nice little "glasses wardrobe"
    Have a great day.

Thank you for this nice comment! I am very impressed that the virtual try on with these websites was such that I could get frames that look good on my face! I have only had one pair that I have had to send back due to poor fit, like I said in this video. I am definitely interested in more glasses with nose pads. I definitely have been wearing these ones the most! I work in Orthodontics so my head is bent down over my patients most of the time and these do not slide down my nose at all!
I do have 2 pairs from EBD but I actually ordered them months apart. I don't remember what the shipping was at all :/ I just checked my order history and it didn't say anything there either. Sorry!
I agree about looking better with glasses. I feel like my face isn't complete without them! I usually only wear my contacts if I'm doing anything water related. Now that I have prescription sunglasses and even "prescription" 3D glasses, I don't really ever feel the need to wear my contacts. They're terribly uncomfortable anyway.
I actually have 6 pairs of glasses total, 2 pairs are from my eye doctor, then 2 from Zenni and 2 from EBD. I also have my prescription sunglasses that are also from my eye doctor but I've been browsing Zenni for a new pair for summer :)
      Here's my prescrption!
      OD - Right SPH -0.5 CYL -1.5 Axis 100
      OS - Left SPH -0.5 CYL -1.25 Axis 81
Thanks again for your lovely comment. I enjoyed all the feedback!

@@HannahTheAdult And thank you for your very kind reply. So your pretty much a veteran with ordering your glasses on line. As you probably know already then is that the virtual try on option is really nice and helpful as far as seeing how the styles of various glasses look on your face, you can't use that as far as sizing. I think EBD will give a full refund on on any glasses returned if I recall? Zenni however will only give a 50% refund so depending on the price of the glasses it might not be worth returning them. I only had one person not like their glasses when they got them but they were only $18.00 including the AR coating so it really wasn't worth my time shipping them back for $9.00 It was going to cost at least $2.50 for postage.
By always getting glasses with the adjustable nose pads allows for any adjustments to be made much easier than a molded plastic frame would. Also in most cases wearing glasses with the softer rubber nose pads are more comfortable as well. Also working in Orthodontics you certainly need your glasses to stay in place and be constantly sliding down your nose. In that line of work you're required to either wear googles or glasses when working with patients anyway aren't you? I have friend that i ordered glasses for about 6 or 7 months ago as a backup to her contacts. Not long after getting her glasses she got hired as a dental assistant and she called me asking if I could order her a pair of prescription sunglasses. She had the option of wearing what she called the "ugly" googles or her own glasses and she chose wearing her own glasses so she figured it didn't make sense to change from her glasses to contacts just in the evenings after work as she was wearing her glasses full time now and she really needed / wanted prescription sunglasses for driving. She wanted the aviator #419119 which is the smaller size since she is rather petite so only 132 mm overall width. It also is available in a wider width of 140mm. either one is only $6.95 and as you know the sunglass tin ting is only $5.00 so her prescription sunglasses were on ly $12.00.
I'm really pleased to hear you say that you feel you look better wearing glasses. I really hate hearing an attractive young woman claim that she looks terrible wearing glasses when in fact she looks every bit as good if not better. I think in many cases they just never have gotten used to seeing themselves in glasses to really appreciate just how good they really do look. I totally get what you mean when you say that you don't feel like your face is complete without your glasses being on. I'm sure for many women if they had prescription sunglasses they might start enjoying wearing their glasses more often. I know many womne have told me that they would wear their glasses more if they had prescription sunglasses but because they didn't have them they wore contacts because they then could wear non-prescription sunglasses. Glasses are certainly a better option if your eyes aren't comfortable wearing contacts. I'm sure the reason your contacts aren't very comfortable is because you need toric lenses which are less comfortable then regular contacts are. Also as you well know toric lenses are a good deal more expensive as well. It also helps when you have more than one pair of glasses to wear. I always remind women that they will spend hours as well a lots of money choosing shoes and handbags and usually have quite a number of each so why would you only want just one pair of glasses? People are far more likely to notice what's on your face then your shoes or handbag. So you're able to switch your glasses to a different style or color that might go better with what you're wearing.
Your real need for glasses is the astigmatisms you have. You're very very slightly nearsighted and if that were your on ly reason for wearing glasses you would only need for glasses when driving at night to sharpen things up a bit But your astigmatisms isn't by any means all that bad but but more than enough to require you to wear glasses all the time. I'm going to assume that if you were to try going without glasses you get a nasty headache after just a few minutes without glasses. Am I right? As you probably are well aware of also is that having astigmatisms effects your eyesight for all distances. But unlike being nearsighted or farsighted where you can expect to need increases every year or so astigmatisms usually don't change much if at all and at -.50 for distance I really wouldn't expect that change much either. Also if you do ever have an optometrist tell you that you need an increase of -.25 on any part of your prescription I would suggest that unless you feel like your glasses need an increase you probably should ignore changing your glasses unless you're just looking for an excuse to order new glasses.
If you have any questions about your eyes or glasses feel free to ask me. I love answering questions.
      Have a great day!

I actually didn’t wear any corrective lenses for most of high school because I didn’t like wearing them. Turns out I just had the wrong type of glasses! I’d chosen very small frames that did not fit my face at all. When I went away to college I learned that bigger frames are more comfortable for me. So now I wear them full time and I can obviously see much better. Driving is actually what’s tough for me, I have very poor depth perception so it makes driving difficult. But I love all my glasses and I like wearing them :) thank you for all your kind words. I hope to do more glasses reviews in the future. I’d like to try blue blockers next. What are your thoughts on them?

    • @soundmanpt
      @soundmanpt 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@HannahTheAdult Thank you for your reply. Even though by the time you were in high school wearing glasses had become considerably more popular than back in the days when I was in high school. Back in my day if a popular girl got glasses she would do everything possible to avoid ever being seen wearing them, because her popularity would drop dramatically. I live a couple of blocks from a high school and I love watching football, so one fall evening I walked up to watch the high school game. I was shocked to see 3 of the cheerleaders wearing glasses. I'm pretty sure that if a cheerleader would have tried to wear glasses when cheering she would have gotten kicked off the cheer team. Did you first get prescribed glasses after you started high school? Most teens even now are a bit self conscious about wearing glasses for the first time around their school friends so that may have played a part in your not wearing your glasses as often as you should have during your high school days. There's no doubt that wearing glasses does change how you look. Not usually in a bad way. Mostly it's just getting used to seeing yourself wearing glasses that effects how you feel about wearing them. Now I won't lie to you it doesn't help if you really did choose the wrong frame that really wasn't a good look or fit on you. The bigger frame styles usually do tend to be more comfortable to wear because they aren't quite as infringing as a smaller frame tends to be. It may surprise you to learn that aside from the fact that you apparently weren't able to see as well as you would have had you been wearing your glasses you really didn't do any harm to your eyes. Now it's likely that your eyesight got a bit worse from year to year but even if you had been wearing glasses that was going to happen anyway. It's really funny how many people either feel that they ruined their eyesight by not wearing or by wearing their glasses when in fact it didn't matter at all. I'm not at all surprised that when you went away to college you started wearing glasses and quite possibly full time even. You weren't alone with doing that. In my days as an optician it was surprising how many college students I fitted with glasses Simple reason, it's so much easier to start wearing glasses when know one knows you. I'm glad to hear that you've become completely comfortable wearing glasses full time now. But so happy to hear about the depth perception problem you have with driving. Having good dept perception is critical when driving because you need that to determine how far away truck is when crossing an intersection. I would assume that you discussed this with your ECP (eye care professional)? It would seem like you may need some cylinder added to your glasses Cylinder is to correct astigmatisms and can be a factor with depth perception. Or maybe even slightly over correcting your sphere. In other words increasing the SPH ( distance ) in your glasses slightly might help.
You're more than welcome for the complements I gave you because when it comes to glasses i'm always going to tell you and others exactly what I think of course that has resulted in some people not being too happy with my less than faltering comment about their glasses. But I think my remarks may at least make them more aware the next time their getting new glasses. One can only hope anyway.
As far as the blue light blocking goes some ophthalmologist think it's great and others think their a waste of money. But I have read numerous reviews from people that have it on their glasses and even from many that other wise don't need glasses at all and they all seem to notice a difference in how their eyes feel after wearing their glasses. My advice for those that aren't already wearing prescription glasses is for them to first get their eyes checked to see if they might need prescription glasses more than blue light blocking lenses. For those that wear glasses already, like yourself, they should just get it added to their prescription glasses . Both Eye Buy Direct and Zenni offer that coating and I know Zenni calls their coating Blokz and its $16.95 and includes the AR coating (anti-reflective) as well. I'm not sure what EBD sells their coating for but probably very similar in price. Yes if you spend more than 40 hours a week with your eyes staring at screens , that not only includes computer screens but even things like TV's, game devices, and even your smartphone all have screens, then getting that coating added is easily worth the cost. You probably only would need it on one pair of glasses at least at first until you see how well you like it and then you may want to consider it for other glasses as well.
Stay safe and stay healthy. No one seems to know how long we maybe dealing with the Coronavirus but I just saw that it could be as long as 18 months. It seems they keep extending it longer and longer. I'm a big sports fan and it's killing me to not have any sports at all to watch. I live just west of St Louis by 40 miles and I was getting all ready to see if the Blues could win back to back Stanley Cups and the Cardinals would have been just days away from the start of baseball. Even worse many TV shows are also showing repeats now. I love playing golf but the weather hasn't been good enough to even go and play golf. If the weather was better I would be playing 9 or 18 holes at least every other day now.
Try to have a great day!

When you put them in, check with print or other test that shows you can see well. Another way id to have one lens slighted tinted (usually blue so that it does not show on your eye but does in the sink when dropped. Glasses are wonderful, but so are contacts. photochromic lenses are a good budget option if you also want prescription sunglasses but can't afford another pair. But I really do not reccomend doing online stores if your prescription is high. They don't give you the option to do the pupillary height which determines where your eyes are vertically and it can distort your vision (and this is far more sensitive for people with high prescriptions like me). The return options are also usually always 50% back or credit. Whereas the in store option can be held accountable and you can go back to adjust them for the lifetime of your glasses. I bought a pair from zenni and it was blurry and not normal. The return process was ok but was just disappointed in the refund options, but it's the process of learning what works. You can get a cheap frame you like and get a in store place to do the lenses for you, BUT it can cost you an average of $20 for them to use the frames you bought from somewhere else, not including the lenses.

That favors high prescription glass when calculating prices. Seeing most people don't know that optician store have 2 ways of calculating prices. And most retail store are jacking up the price for something you can get for lees even by buying from independent stores.

Zenni has has frame measurements for YEARS ever since my first pair in around 2015, well before this video... you didn't research very hard , the ADD section of your Prescription is used for Reading glasses.. Photochromic and Blockz are both awesome, Blockz do make a big difference to eye strain having tried glasses from Zenni with both using the same prescription and only the blockz type being the difference, Photochromic lenses just save on the hassle of carrying extra clip ons, carrying 2 pairs is stupid. I wouldnt bother shopping anywhere else, Zenni is awesome
