Just bought my first one a couple weeks ago. I got the oled 512GB model and I never knew I needed a handheld this bad. It has been an amazing experience. I have been watching all your guys videos on the steam deck. Thanks for the content.
No way, that's awesome to hear :) also thanks, means a lot
I argued with my brother for months saying steam deck is goat. He was using a portal 🤣 he no longer has a ps portal and is waiting for his deck to come
This is a heartwarming tale 🤣
Steamdeck got me back into gaming. Now I'm using the rog ally though
Portal? Cuh 😂
I also own a PlayStation portal and a steam deck. The portal stopped working with a mobile hotspot (that’s why I got the deck). Now I’m thinking about leaving the entire PlayStation ecosystem and switch to PC for gaming in general. Steam is just so genius!
@Daniel-ze6hn fair play. I've always been against pc for some reason. Probably because the cost and jealousy towards people who can afford them. But steam deck is a perfect way to get into it. I'm strongly debating selling my series x until gta 6 comes out as its collecting dust due to my steam deck.
people need to understand the significance of the steam deck as a game backlog machine especially for older gamers, there are games that i would NEVER have played if not on the steam deck and on the go, and its perfect exactly for that
100% this!!
This is a very interesting point. My main gaming rig is a 14700K + 4090 beastly thing, but I have hundreds of older games in my Steam library that I will never find time to play while sitting in front of my PC, meaning I would rather play games that can actually use the hardware I have to its full potential. Now, literally after reading your comment, I actually think I found that one thing I needed to finally have an excuse to get something like the Steam deck :D
@@BETEP-gw7qp yes! haha i also do have a proper PC and current console, so i usually play my day 1 purchases there, everything else like indies and games on sale i play on the go, and also the idea to enjoy a single player game to the credits roll with high graphics, then later on get those completion achievements on the go is just great
@@yugorisfriwan I wonder if the Steam Deck will run Alan Wake 2 ok? lol
@@BETEP-gw7qponce you go to handheld pc gaming it’s crazy man I have a full spec pc but once getting handheld with a oneXgpu it’s a beast.
I preordered when they first announced. Then I got cold feet and cancelled. About 6 months after release my buddy ordered his and upon seeing it I was completely in love with it. I ordered mine that day. I have been so connected to the community and got it set to exactly the way I wanted. I ordered Hall effect sticks, 2TB SSD, 1TB SD card, and an array of other accessories. For the next few months I crushed my game library. Then Valve announced the OLED. I ordered the Limited Edition on launch day. I later sold my LCD and I’ve been an extremely happy camper ever since.
I have the launch 64GB model, now upgraded to a 1TB SSD. I am absolutely loving it. Even though I am a PC tinkerer, I absolutely love how simple and inviting it is to game on the device... With that being said, I also love how Valve just embrace customization... I mean this is my actual experience today: I installed a non-steam game; Phantasy Star Online Blue Burst with the modern "Ultima" server pre-patched. No problem to run in SteamOS even if it is a truly old "wild west" DirectX7 game. I added a 2-level touch menu on the right trackpad, enabling 2 menus with 9 slots each for a total of 18x magic and item shortcuts (menus can be altered with R2). Later I looked up how to add custom icons to Steam Input. I downloaded the icon set for Phantasy Star Online, then applied them in the touch menus. It looks like an official implementation. The quality of life improvement to the game is INSANE.
Sure, I know it's a super old, not-that-fun-anymore, but nostalgic MMORPG. But still, being a retro nostalgia nerd, I love being able to experience the game like it was 2001 again. :) And the Steam Deck just allows me to do that, on-the-go even.
First of all, you should be playing Ephinea not Altima LMFAO😅 just kidding just kidding
@@luis51785 Oh man don't make me fall into a rabbit hole now hahahaha. I was so happy with Ultima server, and now I am beginning to question which to stick to. ;)
@@PixelShade both are great it just so happens that I have been playing Ephinea since the beginning of time lol, I personally just wanna know the player base, who has more players, Ephinea or Ultima
@@luis51785yeah, I was wondering the same thing. It would be great to have some kind of statistics of how many users are online, and where they are located. Ultima does showcase the number of current online users. during the low periods it's about 5 people, but sometimes it jumps up to 30+ people. I haven't looked into if they have a discord, a calendar or events where more people pop in. I will commit to that eventually, right now I just want to grind up my FOmarl so she isn't completely useless in the battlefield. :)
I purchased my LCD 64gb Steam Deck Q3 2022 and play it just about every day quite a bit. I've upgraded the SSD to 2TB drive, full transparent purple shell swap and done some other small upgrades. I'm still in love with it, though I do want an OLED but I'm gonna just wait till Steam Deck 2.
My steam deck oled is coming tomorrow! So pumped, never had a steam deck yet just a gaming PC
Amazing, you'll love it!! Let us know how you get on with it
@@128kbpodcast its literally the best handheld... now i fully docked my switch and the steam deck is my main handheld and the OLED is much lighter than i thought
I've had my deck for almost 2 years and I'm still in love with it ..I'm a 47 year old gamer ..the best console I've ever owned .
I got recently a used 64Gb Steam Deck, after 2 days of playing with it i wondered myself why i haven´t bought one earlier.
Its just a cozy pratical gaming device with outstanding graphics and sound all packed up. The hype is real.
The hype is 100% real
Hey there, found your podcast accidently and I never comment on stuff, but you guys seem just like a couple real dudes! Subbed!
Thanks so much dude
This was a wonderful breakdown of the Steamdeck overall! I was a big time PC player back in the day (I’m 44 now). I grew up on 5 1/4” floppy disc games and by the time I dropped PC gaming I was into watercooled CPU/GPU gaming towers.
Life happened and I got married, had kids and pretty much stopped gaming. After my divorce, started getting back into gaming again, and bought a Series X because I didn’t have the same drive I once did to build monster computers. However, as much as I loved my Series X, there were always games I wanted to play that were available on Steam but not Xbox (like grid based dungeon crawlers and PlayStation games).
Also, until watching your video, I had NO idea that Steam offered cross saves to the Xbox. This is HUGE for me. I can now play Witcher 3 on my Series X and still pick up where I left off on a Steamdeck.
I was on the fence before, but I’m definitely pulling the trigger on a 512GB OLED now. Thanks so much!
Thanks dude, it's exactly situations like yours that make it so good for REAL LIFE.
i love my steam decks, have a Oled but kept my LCD as well
Just waiting for deck 2. The legion go and ROG ally are also releasing their 2nd gens this year so it’s worth seeing what they improve on.
1TB Corsair drives are on sale for £68 at SCAN by the way for anyone wanting to upgrade storage.
Great shout
Nice video. I ordered the 64gb lcd steamdeck on launch day. Then, I upgraded the ssd to 1tb a few months after I got it. When the OLED was released, I wasn't going to get one till I saw the limited edition. I got it and gave my son the LCD model, which he loves it.
that's epic
A year ago I had my Xbox one & Switch. Loved them.both but the switch made me love handheld gaming again...oh boy. I got super tired of paying for xbox sub and Nintendo, I already pay enough of those with streaming. So I decided to go all in on the Steam Deck. Best decision I have ever made as a 40 year old dad of 2. I can play this thing anywhere with my external battery. Just buy it and thank us later
Also just a fyi, it's my first time playing PC. God I love it
Perfect for having all roms and emus on the go in one place. Been playing WoW on it as well
I bought a steamdeck oled last week because i was sick to death of being a pawn in the console wars
I’m with you there dude
I've never been a pc gamer. My steam deck oled is coming today and I already have a game in my library I bought on sale.
I'm with you dude. I know Andy was/is a pc gamer. But I'm like you and this still makes sense
Got an LCD, play it a lot when I have a steam copy of something it can run really well then stick it in a drawer till the next time I play it obsessively.
would you suggest getting a cheaper steamdeck lcd or save for abit longer and get the oled?
If you can save to get the OLED it is 100% worth it.
You guys forgot to mention the family share feature
totally... and now I'm trying to persuade Andy to fmaily share with me ;)
Switch OLED made me fall in love with gaming again. I have Logitech G Cloud for Xbox & Steam Remote Play and a little bit of emulation. I find the G Cloud underwhelming mostly because of how annoying streaming can get. I want to believe a steam deck oled will offer the fidelity /FPS upgrade I've been looking for coming from the switch (Wolfenstein & Doom on switch are atrocious) and a stability/ease of use upgrade coming from the G Cloud. But I'm not 100 percent it will be as big enough jump to justify the cost ( even if I sell the g cloud). I keep thinking might not a Switch 2 bring the jump in quality I'm looking for?
It's work perfectly on offline mode?
As a console player myself I have a steam deck but I hardly use it, I want to but because all of my library is on PlayStation I stay there, I do buy steam games and have 100+ games on there as I want to have a reason to play the deck but I find myself playing a game on it then after a few days i don't pick up the deck and have no rush to pick it back up, maybe OLED is that as I do want the OLED model...
The OLED honestly blew my mind, it's that good!!
Do you recommend the 1TB or 512? I kinda want the 1Tb for the more storage, but I keep seeing that the screen is not as good.
I'd go 512 and upgrade myself later if that's not enough... but 512 will be
@@128kbpodcast I got the 1tb. I might get a glossy screen protector at some point but the etched screen is nice and I don’t think it messes up the OLED as much as people are saying.
Can someone please tell me if can play new/AAA games on it? I want to get instead of a pc because I only play pbc games with controller anyway and want some thing portable- but I I mainly have my eye on the next gen mainstream games (cyberpunk, helldivers, enshrouded, the alters).
For current gen i.e. PS5/XSX games, a lot of games will be with FSR2 and 30fps.
Which a lot of PS5/XSX games are tbf 😂
My question in this vlog is ; Is the Steam Deck suitable for someone that has never owned a gaming pc before and has never had any experience with Steam period?
100% the Steam OS is like a console. Just open and play, it is in many ways perfect for people with no PC experience.
Just got mine yesterday, my son got one last week and i thought i need that. just getting to grips with it and looking for games
The steam deck family
@128kbpodcast yeah, my wifes brother showed my son his one a few weeks ago, so he is to blame.
I don't get the "PC too complicated" issue. I have the Deck too, but what I love most about it are 1. Battery life and 2. Suspend that just works perfectly.
I still prefer to game on PC, worst issue I have is mouse input becoming stuttery sometimes. Which a quick reboot fixes.
I guess a factor is that I avoid newer games at release? But that can't explain it all
Shader cache was too much of an issue, I gave up and gave it to my brother on Christmas as a present, who sold it the next day 😂. Well some games were crashing on it mainly forza 4 so….
I bought a used rog ally with 2tb of storage and a case for £476. It’s alright.
Microsoft wants in on the handheld scene, Valve don't need to worry, the upcoming Microsoft handheld will likely be tied to the Microsoft Store and horrendously more expensive game prices versus Steam. The presence of Microsoft on the handheld scene is still a good thing (even though I'm certain I won't buy a Microsoft handheld), I've skipped the Steam Deck OLED, why? I'm certain that when Microsoft releases their handheld that Valve will do the same. I'll probably replace my Steam Deck with the Steam Deck OLED successor from Valve...just watching and waiting.
I bought a Steam Deck a few weeks ago and it's 100% reignited my love for PC gaming. The OLED in particular is insane.
love this
I bought the OLED Steam Deck a few months ago and love it. Talking about refunds, I downloaded Vampire Saviours, installed it but it would not Launch/Open, applied for a refund, said I will get it within 7 days, easy peasy.
Everyone I speak to who has the SD OLED loves, I've not heard a bad word which says a lot.
I bought the LCD model over the OLED. I don’t think oled is worth it over the other more powerful handhelds that can also do gamepass, given that the price is similar
I've been trying to convince myself that I don't need a Steam Deck. This discussion DID NOT HELP.
But seriously, I enjoyed that you went over points that I haven't seen discussed in any other reviews. I'd never considered buying a game on Steam and streaming it to my docked Steam Deck so that I could also play it on the big TV. Brilliant. I've been buying games on Steam for years, and many of those I *also* own on console. I have a feeling that may change soon...currently drooling over the idea of the OLED with a 2TB SSD.
Thanks... and sorry (not sorry). It's such a hard offering to ignore isn't it?!
As a SD owner & seeing many various videos about it since its launch, very few bring up that SD will not play every controller enabled game from the Steam store out of the box. That’s important to note because this is a lot of users first entry into PC gaming. Also anyone who is strictly an online multiplayer gamer or loves sports games will probably be left disappointed with it. Poorly optimized games can be crippling on the SD (ex: Dragons Dogma 2). Proton is a nice feature to help optimize games better, but doesn’t work for all games. With that all said, SD is the closest thing you can get to console gaming for PC in your hand.
I
i actually was on the website looking at prices earlier...
Steam deck is goat! Though I have to say it struggled playing final fantasy xv and it glitched out at the last part of the game fighting Ifrit I had to swap to my pc for that part but other that was great I played the whole of death stranding with no problems. I love my steam deck even if it isn't the old.
Oled *
truly is the goat
I don't have enough money to get the OLED version. Should I buy the LCD version 256gb for 493,77 EUR? Or should I save money for the OLED 512GB for 725.16 EUR.
honestly dude, if you can save up the extra for the OLED do it. It makes such a big difference. I know that may be a stretch but it's honestly a *big* step up.
I got 256 LCD. It's good, Oled is objectively better, but with LCD you will most likely not feel much need to upgrade
Convinced me to get one

Belated happy Easter to those of you who celebrate it!
Along with the Switch, the OLED Deck changed the game for handhelds in the modern era, I think. MS and Sony should take note of Valve's approach to a user-friendly interface that is founded on good-quality, native-capable hardware!
Same to you dude :)
Just ordered my oled 10 minutes ago 🎉
Helllll yeah!
You can dual boot windows and steamOS with a 2TB ssd also best of both worlds
Storage is insanely cheap right now too.
Have you ever played an RTS game on the steam deck? Wondering how well the touch pads would work!
Every time you say Portal I think you are talking about the amazing puzzle game. Heh.
oh man I wish it was that game we were talking about!!
I have a caveat to the games forever in your steam library. Keep in mind I have 350+ games in my Steam library. Microsoft Flight-not flight simulator-which I bought on Steam and it still shows up in my library, but I'm unable to download cause it has been removed by Steam or Microsoft for whatever reason. I can see it setting there in my library but am unable to access it. I asked for a refund because of this(had it for years prior to the request), and was denied the refund. I understand that to a degree cause I did get my money's worth of use out of it, but...... Now I can't access it. I tried to download it for a reason ya know.
that's really interesting to know
I bought one today!!!😃
amazing!!
yes
Got two
xbox does have text based customer reviews. it's just limited to 1000 chars while steam is 8000
good shout :)
i am considering to get a steam deck
I do hate life in fact.
But I love my steam deck.
I still love my O.G steam deck..
It's just perfect
My pc chair hurts my tailbone to sit for an hour so my steamdeck is amazing. And i can stream my ps5 wtf
I imagine steam decks unexpected success is partly why Nintendo have delayed switch 2
The best feature is suspend to RAM.
Moved from PC gaming 3 years ago when I bought a PS5. Bought a Steam deck oled 1tb a couple of weeks ago. Brilliant for my older PC game library. Along with my PS Portal I feel I've the perfect handheld setup.
you enjoying the Portal? I'm still on the fence about it.
Don't make me buy a 3rd one...
hahaha... go on ;)
With family sharing and swappable microSDs, I may consider buy 5.
@@qchtohere8636 Family sharing is cool and all until you realize you can only have one person on the library at a time.
Steam Deck and Rog Ally is nice as pure gaming handhelds but if you want a handheld suitable as a Windows/Android tablet, laptop, desktop PC and eGPU Legion Go is the thing.
Until SteamOS drops for other handhelds, which Valve said they're working on, I'm sticking with Deck
How is legion go with newer mainstream games (Cyberpunk, helldivers, etc.)
@@keenynthewise with fsr2 and half battery life, about 45fps where deck does 30fps
Edit: the day before, that game that was a scam, everyone got a universal refund after the scam was uncovered. Valve ate the losses
I'm glad y'all got into the deck. I remember seeing that first video where you said you were holding off on the steam deck, and I got why
As an early adopter (5th wave lcd deck owner), the early models definitely had issues. Not just the software but also the hardware. I've been tempted to get the OLED as a "reset", but I've grown quite attached to my dysfunctional lil baby
yeah the fact they keep improving and supporting is enough in of itself to love this thing
Legion go ......
I hear you! Awesome device.
You should rather buy a ROG Ally. But only if you value performance over battery life! And flexibility of windows. Or wanna play Fortnite. I could go on…nah buy what you like if course !! :-)
Butttt if I just want a console like experience then steam deck surely wins!!
@@128kbpodcast yes no arguments against it. But like consoles, cant play every game. must be available for the platform (proton) 🙂
Fuck sake you lot make me want an Oled so badly but I can't justify anywhere near the price.
Steam deck can be docked and used as portable pc when you plug to tv
I definitely like my steam deck but my main pc hand held is the LEGO now waiting for my GPD Win 4
