Man this dude is a Guitar Guru. He has the patience, the wit, the comedic personality, the grace , and the voice to teach. Im definately subbing. This is my first video iv watched of him.
fantastic, I am a 54 year old, I have to learn guitar because my two girls have both picked guitar in music at school, so I have to be able to help them, to do that I have to learn from scratch, you have made your tutorial very easy to follow and execute. thanks
I'm 33, not a "guitar player" but have owned a few over the years and can play a LITTLE lol, you have hands down explained tabs better than anyone else I've ever met, I wish I could have seen your video when I was 8 or 9!!! Think I'm going to give playing seriously a try.
You won me over. I subscribed. A lot more comprehensive vid on tabs, here. I appreciate your simplicity in passing knowledge across. You took me way beyond what i know about tabs. Thanks a bunch.
thank you so much! I am a young beginner guitarist and I was so confused reading some of the tabs online before. now that I watched your video I have finally understand clearly! you're so good at explaining, we appreciate your kindness for teaching us 🙏 full respect to you!!
Oh WOW! this is sight out of mind Tabs , all your notes how to read them what everything means .This is awesome first time I see this completely as a beginner. Thank you
I know this video is 8yrs old but this is the best clearest explanation of how to read tabs iv'e seen by far on TH-cam , when i started out i figured it out myself and read a book on tabs. Wish i saw this years ago , would've saved me time and money. Well done!!
Actually, a clarification: a hammer-on and pull-off are indicated by an arcing line over the notes to be used. A hammer-on shows the low note and then the high note with the arcing line while a pull-off shows the low note followed by the high note. Tapping has notes tapped with the line overall notes in order of tapping (Flash of the Blade by Iron Maiden (NOT AC/DC's Thunderstruck no matter what you were told)) If you are learning by online tablature, the H/P is used due to the inability to do the arc used in print. Keep that in mind: the online tab has differences in print (the H/P in print takes too much room and squishes things together too much). Beds are shown by a forward and backward slash in print depending on if it is a bend or a pre-bend, not a B (this can be done online, somewhat). The bend is the slide symbol up/down or down/up. Muting should be shown the same way as in print: a simple X just as done at the nut for muted notes in chords. Again, the original tab, used in print, is easier and more efficient, I think, to indicate and read.
I have searched far and wide on utube to find a good lesson on tabs and finally i found it, very informative and he gave examples which is huge plus, thanks for the video it was helpful
Omg actually thankyou so much I dont even have my guitar yet and I don't know anything about anything about the guitar and so I've tried watching numerous videos but this is the only video that has helped me.
Excellent video, love the clarity and how it gets to the point, no unnecessary chit-chat anywhere. I'm experienced with regular notation but needed to become aware of the various playing techniques, and to start writing for guitarists. From now on, I'll have tabs accompanying the regular notation so they actually explain how a given piece is meant to be performed, technically.
I have never played the guitar in my life but all of a sudden I started interesting in the guitars. I have been watching a lot guitar tutorial videos since and this video is the easiest one to understand about guitar tabs. Thank you so much for explaining one by one. I wasn't sure whether I want to just enjoy guitar musics or play the guitar but after I watched this video I am keen to buy an acoustic guitar and start practicing the guitar in the future:) Thank you.
I know how to read tabs at an intermediate level. However, I am having trouble playing the guitar without looking at the fretboard. Tell me, how does one play the guitar while reading the tabs and not looking at the fretboard? How is this done?
thankyou very much for your clear explanation of this confusing stuff. I still see some tabs that I haven't seen before. This is the first video I've seen of yours and I am hoping you have some more content, I would love to see it. I love playing the guitar and deeply appreciate your clear explanation. Thank you so much
Thanks for sharing this very informative guitar tab lesson, not only for beginners but also for intermediate as well. Very clear and concise systematic teaching. Thank for sharing your knowledge to us. God bless you
You're a good TH-camr teacher...no one teach like u taught...thank you sir am your new subscriber...God bless you sir in a good healthy body so that you could be able teaching us
This is the best ever video I have watched how to play the guitar..finally every thing that makes sense... Awesome Teacher.... Woww... 👏👏👏... I am so happy 😄... Thank you so so much...Appreciate...
Thks for Sharing mate. Hello im a begginer why the Strings on the Tablature in not Written String no6 instead of String No 1 like the guitar it will be more Simple especially for the beginners. Keep it up.
I have recently discovered this video. I have watched many videos to help me but this one is by far the most helpful! Everything has been broken down nice and simple! And is easy to go back to various parts of the video to practice! I am extremely grateful for this video 😊
I rarely comment but this time i really want to thank you! I'm just starting and this video helped a lot! Your instructions are very clear. The pace is perfect for beginners. Your explanations and intonations are very nice. The visual presentations is one of the things i really like. The repetitions are good too! I really like your teaching style and the videography! Thank you so much! You got a new subscriber here! :)
I get so confused because the graph is upside down, or opposite to the fret board. I have to constantly remind myself that we are to reverse it in our minds. Just the words High E string, make you think it would be the top string, meaning the one closest to the ceiling or sky. Am I the only one who has this issue? Thanks for this lesson, You do make things easy to understand!
+neeraj chhikara The"new" youtube comment system is absolute garbage. Look at the original ("top level") post. Underneath the text, you have the "reply" button, and the buttons for "like" and "dislike" all next to each other. Look just below that, and you will see blue letters that say "View all 6 replies" (or whatever the actual number is.) Click on this, and you will see the entire response chain. (Click "Read More," below, to view the rest of this comment.) Also worth noting-- you can write very long comments on youtube, but the site will automatically hide anything that is beyond a certain length. In which case, there will be an option to view the rest of the comment near the bottom of the text. That would be the "Read More" which you just clicked on, to view this very sentence.
I've been playing guitar for years now and I still get it confused. It doesn't happen as much anymore but when starting our I was just as confused as you were. It's just natural to play it that way. I actually leaned a scale went to my teacher and he said that I played it upside down. Just give it time, it does get easier
Love Rhesus 2 Pcs, no you're not the only one who gets confused with the writing. I am reading it just like you, that is, when looking down at your guitar, the first string you see is the THICKEST ("E") string, NOT the thinnest / first string. I know that you are referring to the POSITION of the strings, NOT their tone. So, I concur with you. It's upside down. Logic would have it written (since it's suppose to be a diagram, a chart, whatever the hell you want to call this written graph) by the ACTUAL LOCATION of the strings, NOT their sound! We're LOOKING at a chart (scale, whatever), NOT listening to it!
An excellent video. I've only recently started learning guitar and love the way you have taken the time to clearly explain in detail the concept and notation in simple and easy language. Well done, and thank you.
You are the greatest!!! I have been trying to find out how to read tabs, no one could explain it to me except you. You made it fun and easy....great tutoria, Well done! Thanks so much....
I sincerely appreciate this Gentleman giving of his time to teach "Tab". Having said that, no matter how long one plays - "Tab" "Sucks Out Loud"! The Nashville Numbering System (NNS) was developed in the '30's by someone who at least understood the Guitar. Unfortunately, it is only designed to show Chordal Relationships. Not only is Tab REVERSED from the Guitar Strings, it is Illogical from Standard Written Music, i.e., Standard Music goes from Low to High Notes! Whomever designed Tab didn't know a Guitar from a Snare Drum IMHO! Also, Strangely enough, back in the '50's, We taught Strings from the BOTTOM, EG., EBGDAE! I Teach Guitar including Theory and the NNS. But not Tab.
Thank you so very much for this lesson. I'm just starting to really use this method. The only problem that I'm having is I have always thought that the strings was reversed, it is hard to get used to the strings in the opposite direction lol that is the way that I have been doing it all my life. The other problem I have is putting and recognizing cords. Again thank you so for this lesson.
I don't know anything about the different chord types yet, but did want some clarity on reading tabs in general and this helped a lot. Technically I'm wanting to learn bass but this still helps me understand how to read the arrangements of numbers. One thing I'm curious about is what the large amounts of space in front of or behind the tabs signify. I'm guessing they're like moments to pause and then continue with a different phrase. I've seen a tab like this that kind of threw me off A------7-7777-7777-77777-5-3... I figured the 7s that are right next to each other mean that fret is played four times, four times again...but then what're the gaps for?
Thanks for posting this video! I used to practice hammer on"s, pull offs, bends but didn't know how to read them on the tabulature. Now I know how to read it after watching this video. Thanks once again !
nice video.... very useful...my teacher taught me different type of tab so I was finding it difficult to read this one...u cleared all my doubts... awsm video
Thanks for the video, I notice for your 7b9r7 example you didn’t touch the 9th fret at all, You’ve bended the 7th fret up and down. Any explanation? 🤔🙂
