And you're both older than I am - 70- but Brian is the best teacher and the sessions are so well laid out . Pickin' and grinnin' like a youngster! even pulled my electric Washburn HB 35 out of its spider-web covered case and have been playing it regularly now.

@@CaperJake I could have bought an old Washburn at Guitar Center for fifty bucks, and I passed it up. Still kicking myself.
How do you like yours? Is it old? The one I passed up looked like it could have been from the fifties.
Played nice too. I don't know why I didn't grab it.

@@johnoneal1234 I bought it off the original owner (it's an '82) in about 1988. It had a fretboard intonation issue that the manufacturer repaired for me (!) after two experts could not resolve the issue (long story). Perfect now. I mostly left it in the case for about 30 years while I played my '66 Guild and later my Martin HD28 acoustics. Now that I have learned the pentatonic scales and can improvise some pretty impressive (to me) licks, I love playing it. I have it out permanently on a stand next to my 30 watt amp and play it daily. Great sound options between the amp settings and the pickup options. Slick fretboard. Not to mention that in black cherry, it's a stunner to look at.

I've been playing 23 years. I'm playing cowboy chords and some movable non-barred chords that sound amazing. Enough i gather crowds and they comment how wonderful my music is etc... Last year i began "finding my own chords" - super cool sounds i thought were unique. Ha! Nope. I was just working with my ear rather than your logic (which is in many ways more fun for me)...however, suddenly what i thought were my chords are really your logic. Additionally, my 10 variations of "new chords up the neck" are added to by about 100 you just explained here. That IS super fun to explore - just in a different way than I've typically had fun with musical exploration. I didn't appreciate it before, but now i very much appreciate it! You are an excellent 'explainer' teacher that helps average players take huge next steps. Thank you.

I learnt this a long time ago .And what I like about it is if I am playing a open C G D tune I alternate up and down the neck in Bar shape on same chords. Makes it more interesting and to my buddies watching they think jeez how many chords is he playing . Lol.
I learnt the pentatonic 5 scales and do the same in that I jam in a blues solo in A ( 5th fret ) then slide down to D and fit in a bit of solo .Or start the solo in the D box with the A pentatonic scale in A.
Fascinating .Took me a very long time to understand soloing in the Chords. Great explanation.

This was a breakthrough in my thinking. I have been using literally every one of these shapes all the way up the neck, but I’ve never thought about them this way.

Thank you! This is so incredibly helpful and so simply explained. Why do so many others have to complicate it? Thanks again.

This video made solid a lot of practical things about actually playing these chords without having 7 or 8 fingers, so thanks

This is awesome. I’ve played blues and rock for a few years but always with just 3 or 4 other instruments in the group. I’m trying to expand my horizons for playing worship and I would watch videos and see all these weird looking chords higher up on the neck and had no idea what they were doing. In this video I spotted several shapes that I’ve been seeing. I can’t wait to get to work on this.

As an olde bass player with a missing left pinky, I started playing 6-string guitar two years ago, and this is the first caged lesson that doesn't start out with that 4 finger reach. Thank you! I learn from you. New sub!

A wealth of information. I thought I understood the CAGED system before. Now I realize I knew what it was, but didn’t KNOW it (maybe just E and A). This will require some practice. I will do this everyday for a month. Then MAYBE I will KNOW (not just understand) the CAGED system. Mostly working on the C G & D’s.

I am a student with just an year of learning ( senior citizen though) , this lesson is worth a million. Some parts I knew/ practiced but now the whole lesson is the next target. Thanks a lot.
Also please make a video for minor chords( you may say apply your own mind ).
