Trivia: Fred the Janitor is played by the director of this movie, the late Wes Craven. That makes Tatum's line 'the janitor is your boss' kinda true.
He's also dressed and named after Freddy Krueger, the main killer of Craven's A Nightmare On Elm Street franchise.
Also, Cillian Murphy (Tommy Shelby) did work with Craven too; he played main antagonist Jackson Rippner in Red Eye.
And in real life, Rose McGowan (Tatum) did pass through the cat door.
I love that whole scene when Randy (Jamie Kennedy) was watching Halloween by himself and telling Jamie Lee Curtis to turn around that he's behind you lol. Wes wanted to be creative with playing with their really names. He was telling himself that he Jamie needed to turn around lol. The way Wes Craven creates those little things is amazing and brilliant!
- Also, I don't know if you caught on to it but the whole last 30ish mins everything that was happening around the house it was perfectly mirroring with what was happening in Halloween lol. The bedroom scene with Sid/Billy, the background music and noices from Halloween when Dewey was in the house searching, Randy on the couch by himself and Sidney yelled out at the same time as Laurie screamed in Halloween which ended up saving Randys life lol, Laurie hiding in a closet as Michael was stabbing through and Sidney also in a closet and stabbed Billy.
Please, if you're going to continue Scream, follow Scream 2, 3, 4 and THEN the 2022 "remake". It's not quite a remake becuase it continues the stories of past characters while introducing new ones. It's all a part of the same continuity and you neeeed to see Sidney's full story. It's amazing.
It is called requel. But yeah this series is awesome.

I agree!!! Mid-late 90s movie blurays look so crisp and more natural. Its so nice to look at compared to how modern movies look. It was somehow gone after the early-mid 00s.

Really enjoyed your guys reactions. I hope you end up doing the sequels because Scream is one of the most consistent horror movie series. While some movies are weaker than others, most people agree there's not a "bad" movie in the series.
yes i agree. i think because they kept the same writer for scream 1, 2, and 4. so it was consistent. 3& 5 were the only ones written by different people.
Yeah, none of them are "best horror ever" quality but none of them are bad in any way. It's rare for a 4-film horror series to be so consistently good
I never realized how bad horror got sequel wise until I saw them all and scream never got that bad
Fun fact: This movie was based on a string of actual murders that happened down here in Florida around the University of Florida. The victims were stabbed to death and mainly women. They were bound, raped, stabbed and then positioned in a “lewd” position. There was one male victim who was a former football player. And during investigation they had arrested a possible suspect who fit the description, but it wasn’t the guy. MrBallen goes into further detail on his channel. You should react to some of his stuff
I’m super picky with my horror reactors because I feel like a lot of people lie because they’ve seen it before but I could tell this was a genuine reaction so you got a subscribe from me! No actually, very few TH-camrs have lied about not seeing it before, from my own experience. Most TH-cam reactors I have come across have been very genuine
Fun Facts:
- So when Tatum said to Dewey that the janitor is your superior, it's true cause the janitor at the school that was dressed as Freddy Krueger was Wes Craven who directed Scream-Scream 4 lol.
- So before Scream came out, the caller ID was not popular at all. The caller I.D. sales in the U.S. tripled after Scream was released, lol.
- Billy AND Stu were at Casey's and used their girlfriends as Alibis for being out. Stu was on the patio with Steve while Billy was in the front, tormenting her on the phone. The question about "Which door am I at" was a trick question. Stu ran to the front door to let Billy in. You could hear the front door open before she went outside through the kitchen. Also, when her parents got home the front door was open. When her mom was hearing Casey breathing on the other end of the phone line, you can hear one talking to another saying "tree," and the phone ends. Also, when Steve was tied up, he was looking at both directions of the house.
- Wes Craven lol to get his actors into character emotionally like Drew Barrymore (Casey) and Neve Campbell (Sidney) right before he start to film he would run up to them and tell them something terrifying. With Drew Wes Craven would tell her real-life stories of animal cruelty to bring out her emotions and then run off and yell action, lol.
- Roger L. Jackson was the voice of Ghostface for all of Scream movies. For every film, the actors were never allowed to meet him before or see him during filming, so that way, when they were on the phone with him, it would give them that real fear effect. Wes Craven always kept him hidden from the others to where they couldn't see him, but he was still able to see them. He also improved a lot of his lines as well.
- Neve Campbell was originally going to say "no" to the film as she is especially afraid of horror movies. But when hearing her co-star Skeet Ulrich (Billy) from The Craft (1996) was going to appear, she agreed. They did both movies back to back that same year.
- They casted Skeet Ulrich as Billy Loomis and gave him the same kind of hair style cause of how close he looked like to young Johnny Depp in Nightmare on Elm Street who also climbed in through a bedroom window. His last name, Loomis, is a reference to Dr. Loomis in Halloween.
- Also when he climbed through her window, the first time "Fear the Reaper" was playing. He climbed through her window to distract her and turned on her stereo to cover up the background noise of Stu kidnapping her dad. If notice he was wearing the same outfit at the end.
- The news lady that was harassing Sidney "how does it feel to almost being butchered" is Linda Blair from "The Exorcist".
- If look really closely when Billy was "stabbed" in the bedroom, you can see Stu adding the fake blood onto the knife before wiping it off.
-Casey's comment about Nightmare on Elm Street on how the first was good, but the rest sucked. It's because Wes Craven only did the first one and didn't direct all of the other ones, lol.
-Kenny actually saved Sidney in his literal final moment AFTER his throat got slashed. He pointed to the back and told her "door" so she could crawl out.
- Ghostface in the bathroom was a prank on Sidney it wasn't either Billy or Stu.
- Rose McGowan(Tatum) was actually able to fit through the cat door. They had to staple her shirt to the door cause she kept falling out. Also, just before her head got smashed in, she herself added, calling out "mom," and Wes loved it and kept it in cause it gave her last moments of humanity. Rose also picked out her own outfits for her character. The jersey she wore with #10 was also a reference to Johnny Depp in Nightmare on Elm Street.
- When Billy hit Stu in the head with the phone, it was an accident on Skeets part. The fake blood was so sticky and ended up hitting Matthew Lillard instead of the desk, and his "Oww You hit me with the phone D***" was a real reaction to it. Wes loved it as well, so he kept it, lol. Matthew also improved most of his kitchen scene with his lines, like with "Houston, we have a problem," "the peer pressure," and the comment about his parents going to be so mad, lol.
- That WHOLE kitchen scene took 5 days to film because of the amount of high energy that was used as well with the fake blood (corn syrup dyed red).
- Neve Campbell and Matthew Lillard actually started dating while filming Scream and were together for a little over 2 years. So that whole "I've always had a thing for you, Sid" was true, lol. He originally auditioned for Billy, but the casting didn't believe that Neve/Sidney would date someone like him, lol. So he ended up getting Stu, and Skeet got Billy cause of his look alike to Johnny Depp. The funny thing is that even though the casting thought that about Matthew, they ended up dating real life anyway 😂 Skeet and Matthew talk about that often at the different conventions in the Q&A. You can actually watch the Q&A videos from conventions on TH-cam. They do so many every year whether its just Skeet/Matthew, Skeet/Matthew/Neve, Skeet/Neve, Matthew/Neve, Skeet/Matthew/Neve/Jamie, or Skeet/Matthew/Jamie. Roger L. Jackson is even at some of them.
- When Billy got stabbed with the umbrella the 2nd time, it actually hit Skeet, where he had heart surgery when he was younger, so that scream he let out was his real action to the pain and Wes kept it in lol.
- Drew Barrymore was supposed to play Sidney. But she ended up changing her mind and went to Wes herself with an idea to have her as the open kill instead cause no one would ever expect it. Also, it would show that if they could kill off a huge star right off the bat it would mean NO ONE was safe. It was the BIGGEST surprise shock effect for the audience cause they assumed she would be the leading character and they played into that with the publicity.
-Even though Billy was at Sidneys for the attack. It was Stu who she fought with when he was tripping up the stairs. You can hear ghostface saying "easy" "easy". The next day at the lockers, he was checking his face in Tatums mirror for any bruises, and when Tatum was hitting him with her sucker he says "easy" "easy.
-Billy was always 1 handed with his killing if he had a knife. If didn't he resorts to choking except for Tatum he used the opportunity with the garage door. He gave a signal look to Stu at the front door that Tatum was dead. Stu uses both hands when using the knife and resorts to other tactics if he doesn't have a knife like the both times he fought Sidney.
-Stu was the one that called Dewey about the abandoned car and also called Randy about the principal after the whole "I'll be right back." Billy killed the principal so they could use him as a deploy for later that night to get the rest of the guests to leave so the real party could begin.
- Dewey was supposed to die in this one, but Wes Craven and everyone just loved David Arquette and how he played his character. They all fell in love with him, so at the end, Wes had Dewey do the thumbs up to show the audience that he survived
the reason why movies look so good from this era aka the 20th century. it's because movies in the '90s, '80s and '70s were shot on actual film. where most movies and shows nowadays are shot on digital. It's cheaper to shoot on digital but it sacrifices the quality. That's why it's a delight when a movie now a days is shot on film. That's why I love Quentin Tarantino because he always shoots his movies on actual film.
One of my favourite things about scream…. It has some comedy thrown in to make the horror parts hit a little more harder … you laugh at stu and his personality… then your smile disappears in an instant because something horrorable happens…😊 and you remember it’s a horror movie…

I met Rose McGowan, who played Tatum Riley, at the New Orleans fan expo last month in January, she was super nice, I got a photo op with her and I got an autograph picture of Tatum Riley from her.
I told her that I was on the autism spectrum and Rose told me that she herself is on the Spectrum as well, Super cool.
I asked her questions about her time on screen and the character of Tatum, she said that Tatum Riley was her favorite character in her film career and she enjoyed being on set
And I asked her about the #10 white football jersey themed crop top Tatum wore, how that fans like to bring up it's a reference to Glenn from the original Nightmare on Elm Street but Rose McGowan told me that there was another meaning to the jersey,
At the scene where Sidney was at home after school and she was talking to Tatum about staying at her place for a week until her dad got home and Tatum said she'll pick her up after practice, a lot of fans speculated that Tatum was at cheerleader practice, but Rose actually told me that Tatum wasn't on the cheerleading squad, she was on the football team, Rose told me that she herself isn't personally a football fan but the character of Tatum is that kind of girl that would do guy things to show female empowerment, and that Tatum was actually that one girl on the football team in Woodsboro High

A little backstory of how Scream got created.
Kevin Williamson wrote the story, originally titled Scary Movie, and based the plot loosely on the 1990 case of the Gainesville Ripper. It was a string of murders in a small town... Then it was changed to "Scream" cause the Ghostface costume was a close resemble to the Scream painting. The Ghostface costume was originally going to be all white but Wes Craven said it was to much like the KKK so he did the black robe with a white face. Kevin wanted to create a story that has horror but also with some comedy of making it a self aware with the horror universe. But also use a relatable story that truly happened as a baseline. So many Directors wanted to be a part of it. There was even a big bidding war. He chose Wes Craven cause he was the only one who truly understood the story and his vision. Kevin wrote majority of the franchise and Wes Craven directed all of the Scream movies except for "Scream 2022" and "Scream 6". He died after making the 4th.
The title of "Scary Movie" since it didn't get used by Kevin they ended up useing it for the parody movies. The 1st Scary Movie was about Scream, Scream 2, I know what you did last summer, the Blair witch project, Urban Legend, the sixth sense, The usual suspects, the Matrix, a very brief Dawson's Creek. .
Fun fact Matthew Lillard who plays Stu said in an interview he thinks stu could have survived the tv falling on his head and would love to comeback.
Lol every time I watch Scream, I mimic Billy saying “I didn’t kill anybody” too. I don’t know why, but that delighted me seeing someone else do it too.
First time viewer and loved your reaction, I especially appreciated the Office reference with the 4 finger guns pointed at everyone lol lol. The second you said you saw Scary Movie I was like "NOOOOO". What kind of fans would suggest you watch that first or not tell you it spoils this entire movie. It ruins the experience because people inevitably say "This reminds me of that scene from scary movie" in like every scene. The reason Casey (Drew Barrymore in the opening scene) couldn't scream to her parents and her..."Mom" came out really softly was because Stu stabbed her in her left lung. So she has a collapsed lung and another doing all it can to bring in the air all by itself, it's amazing she even got those words out. Add to that the fact that he legit was trying to strangle her to death and that type of squeezing pressure on your vocal cords can damage them pretty badly. GRUESOME when you really think about it. The human body is SO RESILIANT AND CAN WITHSTAND UNBELIEVABLE AMOUNTS OF DAMAGE, so it's realistic in the sense that it took her a while to die.
Btw it was Billy who killed Casey. You can tell by the way they hold the knife. Stu does both hands above his head and Billy uses one hand. Also Billy strangles Casey much like he does to Sidney at the end.
The main plot of Scary Movie was pulled from this movie & I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997) (also written by Kevin Williamson). Fun Fact - The original title of this movie was 'Scary Movie'.
These late 90s early 00s films let the story breathe in a way that's out of fashion now. Even horror now often hits the ground running and never lets up. Scream and others had long periods of the film where nothing is really happening but characterization and tone setting

@@steve19811 it's not about how well it's done, it's a style. A lot of modern film is from the same school of thought as Back to the Future - tight script without a wasted second, every frame plot relevant. Scream is not. There's a fair bit of "wasted" time because they were willing to take it slow in the beginning, a la 70s film
@@JBWinter Relaxation and being present is a function of the nervous system so films that are constantly fast and without a wasted second show that the viewer is addicted to overstimulation of their nervous system which is not evolutionary progress but actual regression. So some styles are actually superior than others based on basic biochemistry….

I mean, I’d say the new Scream movies look more cinematic than most scenes in the first 3 movies at least, and they’re shot on digital I’m pretty sure. Lotta flat lighting in the Craven movies. Just saying.
Little tidbit: when Billy got stabbed by the umbrella the second time, the scream was real. She missed the pad under his shirt and hit an old surgery scar.
This movie was inspired by true events, by the killer named Danny Rolling.

Fun Fact: Matthew Lillard ad-libbed the "My mom and dad are going to be so mad at me." line. Director Wes Craven thought it was so funny that he kept it in the film.
Scene 118 Fact: The party scene near the end of the film runs forty-two minutes long. It was shot over the course of twenty-one days from the time the sun set to the time it rose. After it wrapped, the cast/crew jokingly called it "The longest night in horror history." and had "I SURVIVED SCENE 118" (which was the name of the scene during shooting) t-shirts made.
Bait And Switch Fact: Drew Barrymore was originally cast as Sidney Prescott (eventually played by Neve Campbell). But Drew insisted that if she played Casey, a victim in just the opening scene alone, then it would make the audience think anything could happen. Barrymore being given top billing and appearing on the poster was meant to mislead the audience. Thus one of the most hated horror tropes was created.
The trope was born by Psycho (1960). Scream references it.

*Thank you.* It’s one thing to see people make a point about Barrymore’s casting in the comments of literally every reaction ever, but it’s another thing to suggest Scream actually invented that marketing tactic when it was just copping from Psycho.

Scream is a great movie and an amazing satire on the slasher movies of the 70s and 80s. I highly recommend scream 2 as well
@MegMage Reacts Scream 2022 is not a remake. You do know you have to see Scream 2 Scream 3 Scream 4 Scream 5 and Scream 6 (in theaters March 10th 2023) now, right?
Do not watch Scream 2022 before watching 2, 3 and 4... They're all sequels, not remakes.

Hello Meg and Caleb and welcome to Scream. Well, Spooktober is slowly coming to an End and what could be better than watching Scream. These Films are so much fun to watch and there are so many "familiar" People in them 😄Your reactions are always something special and I'm always happy when a new Video comes with you. Three things I'm compulsive about mentioning:
1) The killer is not as incompetent as we are led to believe. The whole point is to kill Sidney on the anniversary of Maureen's death, so they're not actually trying to kill her before then. Indeed, Billy would have been really mad at Stu if Sid had died falling out of the attic window, since it's not yet midnight. (It's Stu in the costume then, because he just "killed" Billy.). That boat saved Stu's butt.
Contrast that to how effectively they kill Casey and Steve, Mr. Himbry, and Kenny. The only time they actually kind of flop is with Tatum, who gets in some good shots on Billy (Stu's in the living room watching "Halloween" with Randy at that moment, so that's Billy in the costume in the garage) before making that poor decision to go for the doggie door.
2) How does the killer know all the shortcuts around the house when he's chasing Sidney upstairs? Well, it IS Stu's house. Subtle clue, there.
3) OTOH, how lame is it that it's Billy who kills Tatum? C'mon, Stu, that's your girlfriend! Billy takes care of HIS personal business (he killed Maureen, he was going to kill Sidney), but you need him to clean up your love life? Lame, dude.
(Yeah, yah, Stu might say they planned it that way so that he wouldn't be suspected ["there's always some bullshit reason to kill your girlfriend"…but not Stu! He has an alibi!], but still. Tatum was your Final Boss, Stu. Face her yourself. Boo, kid.)
Neve Campbell in this movie was sooo HOT and GORGEOUS. A fun fact of the movie it´s that Courteney Cox (Gale Weathers) and David Arquette (Dewey), had a romance in the real life, like in the film, and were married and had a daughter.
Really hope you keep watching the sequels! The whole saga is awesome!
Watch the sequels! The newest is part 5, but you need to understand the Scream Universe to understand Part 5. So you gotta watch 2,3,4 first. They’re all good in their own way.

Random fact: if you like the vampire diaries. the guy who wrote this movie (as well as scream 1,2, & 4) wrote The vampire diaries season 1-3, as well as a bunch of other horror movies and tv shows.

Watch "Get Out" by Jordan Peele. Good movie that is uncomfortable with messages. It is an Academy Award-winning horror movie
Yay, Scream! Quite possibly, my favorite horror franchise of all time! (Kinda tied with IT, but I like IT more for the characters, even if the horror is still good). Legit, the first movie is my favorite, even if the others are also amazing.

Ahhhh!! I loved y’all’s reactions to this, and I’m so happy y’all gave it a watch! I first saw this about 5 years ago after my friend had begged me to watch it with him. Like you said, I think this movie does so many things well, from the satire to the plot to the acting to the soundtrack (love me some horror soundtracks), but the feminist themes definitely stand out to me the most the more I think about it and the more I watch it. I haven’t seen the sequels yet, but I’d love to see y’all react to them!
Also, if you want some more feminist horror from around that era, I highly recommend Ginger Snaps (absolutely love this one) and Jennifer’s Body (this one is closer to the 2010s, but nevertheless a cult classic)!

Now, I know that I’m not a patreon (I’m not even a subscriber… yet!) but I _really _ hope that you guys react to all of the sequels. While none of them are quite as strong as this one, they are all really good and super fun! Personally, I don’t think that there’s a bad film in the bunch when it comes to the Scream franchise! (And I think that most of the fan base would agree with me as well!) The two of you reacting to the sequels would most certainly cause _at least me_ to venture back to your channel. So, here’s hoping!! 😊

Scream 1, 2, 3, 4, 2022 (requel, not a remake) and Scream 6 coming out next year. Scream is not a franchise like Halloween or Friday 13th that is all over the place. Scream has a very consistent storyline so you CANNOT skip movies. Drew was passively marketed as the star of the movie because she was the biggest star. So people went in thinking the was the final girl. Then she died in the first 15 minutes and everyone was like WTF! If they can kill Drew than anyone can die. If you're interested in more feminist commentary you definitely cannot skip Scream 3. It is more relevant than ever and it will make you want to vomit when you realise it.
Scream 3 is not “more relevant than ever”. It was always just as relevant because everyone always knew about Weinstein, producers in Hollywood, and the casting couch. It was never a secret. We just pretended it was when everyone got “exposed”. In fact, I’d argue Scream 3 is actually less relevant now than it ever was since Weinstein and many others are behind bars now, and Hollywood has tried to publicly purge all those garbage people (as well as ringing the subject dry with endless moralizing in media and entertainment).
