Thank you! I've always depended on my husband to do this. I was able to take care of this on my own for the first time in my life. Thank you so much for the easy to follow instructions. 🙏🏾
Great product tips for a lasting solution! I live on the pacific coast in Northern California the salty, cool, damp climate wrecks havoc on battery terminals.
Just learned this was something that I was supposed to be doing at least every 6 months. I have a battery located behind my front driver side wheel so I have to take it in the shop anyways, but this is very helpful for the next car I own!
Not so quickly and not so often. The corrosion depends on where you live and how protected your battery is. In my German cars where the batteries are located in “strange” places like the trunk or under the driver’s seat for example, the batteries can go for their entire life cycle without corrosion of terminals. It also depends on the type of battery you have, flooded batteries are notorious for having corrosion because they release sulfuric acid into the air, AGM batteries are sealed and usually there is no corrosion. On this video the battery is placed right in the front of the engine compartment and exposed to all kinds of stuff including salt if you live in a northern climate.
I just buy a single can of Pepsi, open it up, and pour directly onto the terminals. If the corrosion is persistent, stick the metal part of the cable into a cup of Pepsi and let it sit for 10 minutes. Cables will come out looking brand new. Try it yourself it's facts.
i have corrosion on my terminals. my car takes a while to start but once it catches it goes. someone told me it was the started but i think the starter starts and the corrosion is preventing the smooth operation. any thoughts. ? i will do this since i need to rule out other things before i replace the starter. thank you for this video, really helpful.
Okay good. I actually looked this up to make sure to know for sure if the ncp2 it's supposed to be washed off with water after I just leave it on the dryer and it looks like from what I saw you just leave it on
Dielectric grease is non-conductive, and should not be applied to the mating surfaces of the posts. Use a conductive electrical grease like No-Ox-id A special and use dielectric grease on the exterior side or the terminal protection spray like in the video.
I’m a woman and I’ve rebuilt engines and know more about cars than 9/10 people I know regardless of gender. Don’t cut yourself short lady! Of course you can do this!!!
Thanks to this. I just cleaned the corrosion off my car battery,I'm scared to start it lol do I need to wait a few hours after cleaning the corrosion? Or is it ok to turn it on right away.
Some of the slurry from the neutralizing solution was overflowing the tray down into engine compartment. Any danger to wires or other components from this? I rinsed the affected area iwith some light spray with garden hose when I noticed it happening.
@@tracy6888so you used Vaseline instead of dielectric grease? Petroleum jelley instead of the silicon based product that dielectric grease is? Wonder why you had an issue... Maybe try using what you are supposed to. I mean even autozone is smart enough to put on their site to not use Vaseline on battery terminals .. that is saying something...
Do you need the 12v power supply’? I can’t find one with a cig lighter plug in. And how exactly do you clean it if you have to use that’s device? If you don’t use it what happens?
Can you clean them or just the one without disconnecting it I noticed on one it's just starting to turn white is there anything I get buy to like say spray on it before it gets really bad
Sooo I just tried doing this with my 2018 civic. But now my car wont even start. I tried pushing the start button and nothing goes on. Any tips? I'm gonna try to see whats up before I have a mechanic come over
I would start with tightening the terminals on the battery before you spend any money, if that doesn't work bring the battery into an autozone or O'REILLY and they can test the health of your battery
The wire connectors are not installed properly! You should loosen the nut and open the connector until it slides all the way to the bottom of the battery terminal. at 3:01 in the video, is how NOT to install the wires!. also why clean only 1/2 of the top of the battery?
Thank you! I've always depended on my husband to do this. I was able to take care of this on my own for the first time in my life. Thank you so much for the easy to follow instructions. 🙏🏾
Awesome instructions, straight to the point. Very helpful for newbies in car maintenance!

I was about to do that. And i told myself nahhh I cant do that, turns out. I was right, doing that tmrw!!
@emwhite6796deleting corrosive heresy
Do I have to disconnect the battery before I pour the Pepsi on it?
That lesson was excellent. Thank you!
Great video with some really great pro tips!
Pads also help prevent corrosion and a battery terminal cleaner is a must have that can be picked up at Harbor Freight for a couple bucks. 👍🏼
Really like how he did the video man props?
Awesome! straight to the point. Thanks.
What do you recommend to clean just the grease or anticorrosion on the terminals?

Did cleaning the battery work for you?
How'd it go?
Great video! Why was it necessary to add the battery terminal protector when you used the dielectric grease? Don't both prevent corrosion?
Okay good. I actually looked this up to make sure to know for sure if the ncp2 it's supposed to be washed off with water after I just leave it on the dryer and it looks like from what I saw you just leave it on

Quick easy! I feel competent enough to do this as a woman.
As do I put I'm a 25 yo male...🤣 dont let it discourage you! I'm sure you did just fine..😅

@@SavoySalsaamen. You both know heck of a lot more than I do as a man. Gender don’t define those things. Knowledge is knowledge 💪💪
I'm a handy woman. We need more tools made for women's hands!
@carolejackson8357 the kitchen was made for women hands
thanks joe

You can start your car now. 😎
How'd it go? It start up fine?

This was great thanks a lot for this
Thanks New Dad.
😂
😂
My understanding is that dielectric grease is an insulator, so it seems like a bad idea to put any between the battery post and the connector.
I feel like the dielectric grease caused the corrosion on my battery. Anyway to fix the problem so it never happens again?

My shop quoted me 40 bucks to do this, is this worth it? Sounds like you actually need a lot of supplies.
40 bucks is cheap I’d say, depends how bad they were. Nowadays I’d say that’s a good deal.
It’s about $20 worth of supplies that’ll last you for years…
Do you need the 12v power supply’? I can’t find one with a cig lighter plug in. And how exactly do you clean it if you have to use that’s device? If you don’t use it what happens?
Nothing bad just the computer will be reset so you’d have to set something like a digital clock and radio channels over again
Can you clean them or just the one without disconnecting it I noticed on one it's just starting to turn white is there anything I get buy to like say spray on it before it gets really bad
Can i put coke on it leaving the battery connected ?
Wow. Thorough. Thank you.
My battery is under the engine. I have to remove tire to get to it

l heard you can use vaseline to protect the terminals from future corrosion.. ls this true?
If you listen he did mention you can use Vaseline to prevent corrosion.
Do not do that... Made up of different stuff (Petroleum based vs silicone). Just use what you are supposed to use for its intended purposes.
I don’t have the tools to disconnect the cables or anything from the battery but is it ok to clean the battery still as presented in video?
Gotta disconnect the terminals or it can be dangerous
Thank you!!❤
Thank u
Good one!!!
very useful
Fuck the presets we rawdog it

Good vid.
Coke works better
So freakin dummy proof
just pour hot water man
