    I am embarrassed to say how many batches of homemade hummus never were eaten because the texture and flavors were off-putting. Last night I was desperate for hummus so I could make a Hummus Arugula Pizza. I had all the ingredients for this recipe, Crossed my fingers and followed the recipe using my Ninja Auto IQ cup blender.
    Perfection!!!! It was so delicious, I soaked some chickpeas overnight, cooked them this morning in my IP and made two more batches.
    My sincere thanks for such an easy and satisfying hummus recipe.
    Stay warm and stay well.

    A couple of changes when I tried it. Instead of water, I used the juice from the garbanzo beans. I added caraway seeds to the mix (which definitely need to sit in the hummus for a few hours to soften up.) I tripled the amount of garlic (6 cloves since I really like a strong garlic flavor), and blended in a handful of parsley sprigs. I pureed for a long time at least a few minutes. Next time, I'll add roasted red peppers, or sun-dried tomatoes and artichokes.Thank you Brittany for the terrific recipe ideas. I've never tried pita crisps, so if you have a moment to explain how to do that in the air fryer, I'd be grateful.

    • @dawnfiegen3249
      @dawnfiegen3249 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Marie.b Sort of. Ground-up nuts and seeds is still a whole food. I agree that it is still a lot of fat. Sesame oil is technically highly refined and missing some of the benefits from a whole seed. Sometimes heat applied as well in the process adding to the problem of rancidness. Oil is like a super-concentrated fat bomb. But I totally see your point. I meant added oil not fat- free.

      Oh, that’s unfortunate you don’t have true tahini in your area. It’s like pasta sauces how some add sugar or peanut butter how some add oil.. just have to read the ingredients, but I have bought hundreds of jars of tahini over the years and only buy the ones that have one ingredient: sesame seeds. That being said, nothing wrong with using the whole seed if you are lucky enough to own a blender that is high speed! :)

    I have always just used the recipe on the ziyad tahini jar with water instead of the oil. I did it before I ever tried cooking without oil. My husband and I (he part Lebanese) always liked it better without the oil as the oil mutes the fresh flavors. The recipe is, per can of chickpeas: 1 clove garlic & 1/4 cup each water, tahini, and lemon juice. With that much lemon you don't need any salt, but even if you really like salty flavor only a tiny sprinkle is needed. We always make at least double or triple batch. It doesn't last long. We use no cumin as cumin is always in something else - falafel, kibbe, sauce, etc.

    I made it this time with orange mini bell peppers straight from the garden seeds and all 👍🏼

    This was delicious! I chose to make it in the vita mix and it came out so smooth. A great way to get our beans in!

    I never thought of using the sesame seeds rather than tahini! I need to find a source and I'll try it! Thanks!

      @@sweettula5129 no. I keep reinjuring my back in my sleep. It's the osteoporosis...I'm waiting to hear back from the neurosurgeon about surgery...at least I have insurance again! Thanks for asking. Sorry you keep hurting yourself!

    The WFPBNSOS hummus recipe is the closest you'll find out there to being authentic. This is the hummus recipe to try! 😋😋😋

    Great recipe! When I made it I substituted half the water with Paul Brags Apple cider vinegarette it adds zero calories and a lot of great taste.

      Does that vinaigrette have oil in it? Just asking because I'm trying to avoid oil whenever possible. Thanks!

    Great recipe thanks! I like to lightly toast the sesame seeds in the pan first and it gives it a nice flavor.

      When I make hummus I like to very lightly saute the garlic. I find the raw to be too sharp for me.
