Crawler Canyon Quick(re)view: Voodoo KLR Trail Spec Yellow Halo Carcass + Voodoo Halo Airdown

- My definition of "quick" might not fall in line with others. But I've got you know, things to say. I call these a "quickview" because it covers unboxing and initial testing. It does not speak to durability, longevity, etc.
The whole combo is a real mouthful-- and I think (I could be wrong) but this is the first tire/foam combo tested in the Canyon that are specifically made for each other. This is a test of the Halo-carcass KLR Trail Spec in Yellow (soft) compound, and the accompanying Halo Airdown dual-stage foams.

I do like the body, black wheels and very nice tire/foam combo
The last 6 minutes of seeing Black Jack sitting high on the mountain was a beautiful view! Black Jack looks so good! I haven't tried the KLR Trail Specs, but I do have the OG KLR's from a few years ago and they are one of my favorite tires. They grip on most all of the terrain that is in my area and are damn near unstoppable!
Nice! Well I guess I know what foams I should watch for with my Phoenix build. My C2 comp truck has been wearing a set of Tusks on OE foams so his old set of Predator Hyrax and Crawler Innovations dual stage has been on the shelf. I'm thinking those will be fun to try and I'll need to see how The Holds do. Still haven't mounted mine yet so maybe I order up some foams. One of my pre-new-year resolutions is "film more B-roll, idiot." I'm so used to just turning the camera off, getting distracted, and doing 2 hours of tinkering. Imagine if I recorded it! I could get 40... 50 seconds of content, easily! 🤣
I have a set of the KLR's on stock Proline foams and they feel incredible, got them for a competition tire as a alternative to the ubiquitous Hyrax, can hardly wait to get them out on the rocks !
I know this is a super old post but how do you like your ottsix tires i am shopping for a new set and There are not many reviews on TH-cam.

And think-- Voodoo markets these as a trail tire. They're outstanding on rock. I can't imagine what the CompSpec versions would be like.

Throws are the foams I. My c2 truck and love then it's about 6lb and I use white dot front and yellow dot rear there fantastic

I haven't been so impressed by a tire right out of the package in a long time. I guess if you have tires and foams that are made for one another, it kinda works out.
You're improving the state of the Canyon through your benevolence, I hope you're aware of this.

It's the Killerbody Marauder II. It's kind of a pain to get assembled, but it looks great, for much less weight than a hardbody.

I think I have to agree. Time to do another 120-bolt bonanza and swap all the hardware out for scale stuff. Which I had JUST done on the silvers. I should have gone with my first instinct and put the black wheels on to begin with.
Voodoo KLR's are on deferent level - i run a few rigs on them - this is pro stuff - and they have a range of foams so you can tune them up even more - front and back - many pro's use them in compatitions
I'm not seeing any "air down" unless fully loaded. Maybe they need to break in? The squish seems good though. I still think you need more front weight for that rig to climb. Pro-Line Dual stage money for the inserts, but JConcepts tire money. Strange.
Living in a time when foams cost more than the tires is now and will forever be crazy to me. Then I look at anti-foams and I need to have a lie-down.
But I cannot argue the performance. They are the most responsive tire/foam combo I've used. If they are at all like good 'ol hairbuns, I don't expect much in the way of break-in foam-wise. Hairbuns drive exactly the same now as they did one day one, after more than a year on a 9lb rig.

That's tough for me to say. The tire+foam combo is absolutely brilliant, and performs amazingly well for something in a "non-exotic compound." But as is in their name-- TrailSpec-- they're not the best rock crawling tire I've ever encountered. In terms of a scale tire though? Maybe as good as you can get. Still horrifies me that the foams cost more than the tires, but I can't argue the performance. I think they're appropriately priced, but at the same time I don't think they're for everybody.
I bet you strip screws on off a lot these reckless with that drill LOL
