Hi matt, I had a hair transplant in 2017 wasn't really happy with it took finasteride 1mg a day for 2 years but my normal hair continued to thin etc. I've been using topical finasteride and minoxidil my hair looks good now but still a bite thin. I'm going to do a surgery in November or December and I was planning on gradually reducing the topical finasteride and minoxidil over the months so I will stop using it a month or 2 before surgery. My theory is that I would loose a bit of hair so when I get the surgery I will need more grafts get more coverage then start finasteride a week or 2 after the surgery. Do u think this is a good idea. Like I said I know by tapering the topical then stopping a month or 2 b4 surgery will cause hair loss but then I will get more density in the surgery. I am 49 years old so hoping I have gone through the worse of my hair loss. If I go by what my dad's hair loss was like.. Thanks
I think that sounds like a good idea. Your tapering off topical finasteride and Minoxidil for a few months then the last 2 months u stop totally this means u should not shed as badly but you will shed then on the day of the surgery you have more grafts to implant so more coverage. I'm on finasteride I might try this before my hairtransplant makes sense. Question is when do I start the finasteride after surgery..
yup not true..60% do not end up bald. and we don't know all the facts to Robbies case so..oh you have been doing cocaine every day.. well coke causes hair loss. so....you have to choose you cant have it all..doesn't work that way unless you are super rich
I wonder if testosterone replacement therapy combined with dutasteride would have helped. TRT for his depression and dutasteride for the extra DHT from all the testosterone.
Dont believe in that side effect thing.... Its so seldom, that I believe that most of the men do so much think about them and fear them that they think them to reality, self For filling prophecie-style.
not true, i began finasteride at the age of 18 without even reading the side effects, I didn't care. I just wanted my hair back.. 2 years later sides really began to show, and I didn't know why. Then I read more about it and discovered how many others experienced them.. they persisted 5 months after I stopped, but now 2 years after I stopped they're finally gone. Don't take it lightly, you really are messing with your hormonal balance.
water sperm, anxiety, less libido, ed etc... they might appear to me during my 8 years of Finasteride. and the day i finally decide to stop, i had a big crash with all symptoms x 10 : anhedonia, shrinkage, suicidal thinks etc.... so the side effect can appear during treatment, or once you want try to stop. the reason is you play with your hormone and block DHT which is important.

What i want to say is just that there is more than 0.2% that got side effect for sure. And the people that want take should check their hormone level firsf
My hair suddenly started falling out in my late 50's. I had a full head of hair and didn't have clue what was going on. Thankfully I went to a hair loss doctor who did three scalp biopsies sent to a lab. Ultimately, it turned out I have a an autoimmune disease that attacks the scalp. Had he been a reckless doctor, he could've done replacement surgery and all the transplanted hair would've fallen out immediately. I went to a dermatologist and she has me on topical steroids to keep the inflammation down on my scalp. Moral to the story is see reputable dermatologist before any restoration surgery. They can perform the biopsies if they see any inflammation on your scalp and stop you from a surgery destine to fail.
My dermatologist wants to do a punch biopsy of my scalp to determine the reason for my hair loss that started 4 years ago. I have been putting the procedure off. Thank you for a reminder of how important a diagnosis is.
@@da4441 You're welcome. I posted to help anyone who may be considering a transplant. A lot of people have other health related issues leading to hair loss and simply go to a doctor for a transplant. Many doctors will do the procedure without any pre-op testing.
Guys / Matt. I have a question because I'm confused. I use Finasteride for about 2 months now. And until the end of the second month my hair stopped falling out and began to regrow. But in the last couple days my hair had a kind of shedding effect hairline has gone backwards and the regrowimg thicc hair falled out. How is this possible? I am very anxious right now about the future of my hair. Because it has now again thinning parts on my scalp because of the shedding I noticed the last days.
@@rolife_ You got caught up in a growth phase change. Happens to me too with a sudden period of shedding. Just keep it up or slightly change your routine/dosages. I use topical for both and I tweak them if I notice more shedding. Started thinning at 38 and am now 52, happy to still have it due to being proactive and addressing when changes occur.
Stick with the finasteride. There are a lot of studies and research showing that it slows hair loss. Gotta be in it for the long term. Don't look for short term results.
I can be bothered with a HT. too much post surgery maintenance. Went down SMP route. Of course it is not as good as hair but at least its better than bald.
Agreed. I'm diffused, thin all over. a hair transplant probably won't give me the result I want. So I got SMP. It frames my face better and I look younger. If I didn't get this I would of been A LOT more unhappy so I recommend it as long as they make it look natural as possible. Aged 25/26 my hair started diffusing aggressively. I took minox and fin (which worked) but the minox was giving me heart palps which worsened when I drank alcohol. So I stopped. The hair fell out rapidly. Was one of the worst days of my life shaving it off. I felt like I'd been hit with a shovel. Until they find a cure its probably pointless. I'll be even more depressed if I get a transplant and it doesn't work or I don't get the result I want. I was quoted 4500 grafts. The doctor suggested SNP as I would probably need 2 transplants due to the diffuse thinning so they said I could get SNP in the interim, which would also darken the scalp a bit and enhance the result, providing I didn't get an aggressive hairline. This is probably all of my donor hair, although the donor area is good. In my opinion unless you can restore your hair to a Norwood 2 it looks shit. I don't think I can. Fibres are even worse because they're a lie. Every time I had a shower I would come out depressed, lol. Life simply isn't fair. I have tried to embrace being bald. Every time I almost do I have a dream of having hair again and the feelings of helplessness come back. Growing up i used to be known for my changing hairstyles. I used to love it! I'm 32 now and there's still loads of guys who have hair. My youth (25-32) is WASTED. I also used to be hot! Hot chicks used to look at me, now it seems to only be dudes, prob cause I look like a thug 🤣. They need to hurry the fuck up and find a cure. If you can't get a hair transplant is all hope lost? I guess that's a yes. I just saw Robbie Williams on TV, so this is purley just to vent. The guy needs to stop crying about it like me. I might actually just get rest of hair lazered off so I don't need to shave it once every 2 days. SNP looks weird when you leave it too long 🤣🤣🤣. Then I'll get the rest of my head tattooed. It will look good till my beard is grey. Then I'll just have to lazer that off too and become the bald egg 🥚 with a hairy arse that I was born to be... or maybe I'll lazer everything off and become an alien.
Yeah, you will probably need to look for a good one before jumping the shark. I will advise you to be on finasteride for at least 6 months to a year before going for a transplant(you might see some regrowth, but even if you don't you'll still need to use it after the transplant anyway so you might as well see how it reacts with your body). Make sure if your just thinning a bit or receading a bit to use as little grafts as possible ao that way you'll have enough donor for potential future touch ups if you lose more hair in the future. And also try shaving your hair the time your on finasteride before the transplant, the look might suit you and that way you'll save a lot of time and money.

I was under the impression that the hair from the sides and back that are used as donor hairs are not susceptible to DHT once transplanted on the recipient site . So why would those same donor hairs not be permanent after implantation?
I have hair loss in the crown . Rest of head is with out hair loss . When ever I went for a consult they told me 2 k grafts we will take it from the sides and back of the head where those hairs are not susceptible to DHT . Are u saying that only the hairs on the back are not susceptible ?
The dht susceptibility theory isn't correct is why, yes dht does the damage but dht is known to be converted heavily in low oxygen, its this which causes the excess dht imo
So In plain English u r saying that the hair plant surgery isn’t a permanent result . Because those hairs they say are dht resistant will become non dht resistant and come off the crown area same way the initial hairs stopped growing back in .
Donor hair is DHT resistant, not DHT immune. You could lose donor hair down the road. I have seen few failed hair transplants where transplanted hairs kept thinning
So what do u recommend ? I don’t take meds lotions or pills . And I’ll only do a hair transplant if it’s permanent. I wouldn’t want to lose the donor hair , then what’s the point of having the transplant to begin with ? I have otherwise thick hair all around just the crown typical make pattern hair loss . Hasn’t progressed in over 10 years
And it's great. Hair Loss down 90% in my case and hair got thicker. It's good that such amazing med exists. You can take it every other day and it still works.
What’s your email I’ll send u a pic . Maybe u can tell me if I should do a transplant or just get the micro pigmentation. The issue with the micro for me is that I wear my hair long
Did you know that Robbie ,being the incredibly honest person that he is , admitted to having low testosterone levels and had been having THT? There’s more than a strong possibility that this contributed to his hair loss. He could always go down the MSP route.
So true. Testosterone will also eat your hair and combine that with the fact that Robbie stopped taking finasteride and a topical anti androgen. A total recipe for disaster.
Matt I've been using finasteride for a while now year and a half. Got good results, stopped losing hair, my question is if I should also add minoxidil to try and regain some of the lost temples.
If it helps... I've been taking fin since November after a frontal transplant, and started min on April for the existing hair. Got to say that I am seeing improved results
I don't think you will regain any hair with minoxidil, but definitely add it to you regimen to complement finasteride in preserving your existing hair.
Just a bit of warning though, you will experience some hair shed for about a month or two of using Min,, then after that it stops. Don't be alarmed when it happens. Also u may get an elevated heart rate... I was only able to apply minoxidil in the morning, and couldn't do it before bed. Only this week I started to apply twice a day, but around 4 hours before bed time.
Do what you want man. I cant advise you what is right or not on this. Personally I wouldn't try to make my temples regrow because it is a hassle to keep temples in a TOP shape with treatments long term. It is quite unsustainable especially with Minoxidil. Temples and hairline should be designed with transplant to make them on point and the rest of the hair should be maintained with treatments - that is the ideal case imo. But if you feel like it is still early time to be saving the lost temples, go for it 100%!
I personally think he’s trying to sell his product that also doesn’t work😇 fue and dhi are promising and dude lost his hair bc he is at the age an didn’t follow protocol and he looks super stressed!!! That will do it #stopthe🧢
Hair treatments are not about defeating hair loss We all know hair loss will win at some point ; its aboht delaying the loss bruh This guy went from being bald in his 20s to being bald in his 40s ; his case is actually an example of best possible hair transplant result
I've never seen a 48 year old man that stressed over hairloss. Half of all men including famous celebrities are majorly balding or bald at that age atleast. No one cares, thick hair will not even make you more attractive at that age if your just self obsessed
The problem really seems to be that transplanted hair only survives one lifespan and that's about four years after that, according to studies, in 90% of patients the hair has receded or severely thinned. that sucks. :(
Thats what happens when people play smart and dont take Finasteride. The sooner men with AGA realise that Finasteride is a must take drug if you want to keep your hair the better.

Hes not bald. Far from it. He us gradually losing hair but I dont think he'll be fully bald till his 60s. If your close to 50 with the amount of hair robbie has then you know he has good genes. His hair loss is very slow
So maybe a 4 out of 10 chance it'll last ? 40 % chance it could last and 60% chance it won't? It sounds like it's not a great chance it would last but still a decent chance it could work
Hi matt, I had a hair transplant in 2017 wasn't really happy with it took finasteride 1mg a day for 2 years but my normal hair continued to thin etc.
No it’s not a good idea
yup not true..60% do not end up bald. and we don't know all the facts to Robbies case so..oh you have been doing cocaine every day.. well coke causes hair loss. so....you have to choose you cant have it all..doesn't work that way unless you are super rich
@@SpaceRanger187 this channel and host is always very pessimistic.
How come you were still thinning on finasteride?
It seems like your hair gets better with the oral minox. Am i right? I want to start the next days too
yeah, I will post an update
Do you think he should have gotten FUT to start with to ensure the maximum number of hairs from his donor throughout his lifetime?
He could rock the smp easily
the line on the middle of his head is not caused by baldness, he had an accident and its just a wound
correct. I wasnt really talking about it in the video though. As it doesnt have much to do with his hair loss.
ALL OF US SHAVE OUR SIDES OR FADE OUR SIDES. WHY CANT WE TAKE 100% OF THE DONOR SITE MIRRORING THAT EFFECT?
because you will see the scars

I wonder if testosterone replacement therapy combined with dutasteride would have helped. TRT for his depression and dutasteride for the extra DHT from all the testosterone.
And permenantly shrunken testicles as a bonus, what a brilliant idea!
Don't take it lightly, you really are messing with your hormonal balance.

the reason is you play with your hormone and block DHT which is important.

Maybe because your hormonal levels was good enough initially. Now, if someone with already Low DHT level took Fin , it can for sure cause side effect in different ways, one more is Digestion Problem. It has worked wonderfully for my hair during this 8 years, but when the crash subsisde, i went to the Andoctrinologue and guess what, he told me that a lot of guy come to see him due to side effect from Fin or Dut. Some in severe mental conditions. His protocol is too prescribe ANDACTRIM (dht gel) to try to sensitive again the receptors androgen that might be spent from Finasteride.
What i want to say is just that there is more than 0.2% that got side effect for sure. And the people that want take should check their hormone level firsf
This is 100 percent true dont get a hair transplant - they dont last (the hairs they transplant last) but your hair doesnt Do not do it
your hair will last if you're on medication

What autoimmune disease is it ??
Sorry to hear thay but your story is irrelevant for 99% of the people here. Has nothing to do with male pattern baldness.
Its normal, just wait for a year at least
Sorry but Matt isn't a professional
Okay thx. I was just really confused because of this and had to hear it from someone else haha.
Of course it is not as good as hair but at least its better than bald.
lmao what are you talking about
HT my friend is the only way.Not one,but two or three to achieve best results.Patience is the key.
Do you need to spend a lot of time to find the best hair transplant surgeon or are most clinics good enough?
Natural Clinic Istanbul is The best. Go vegan and Take Dutasterid
Spend a lot of time researching. There are a lot of shit clinics especially in turkey
Hi Matt. What do you think of Transes hair transplant in Istanbul? They seem good but wonder if any of you guys know a bit more.
they started as a very low cost hair mill years ago. Unnaturalness and over harvesting was very common. Not sure if they got any better over time but in my eyes it will be hard to ever see them as a clinic with quality potential and good ethics.
@@letsgethair Wow... What a professional reply, thank you. Unfortunately I've already booked with them and the hotel so I'm hoping they have improved. Do seem to have a lot good verified reviews on What clinick but I understand this doesn't necessarily tell you much.

Hello Matt, have a nice day :)
The thing is that if your doing the surgery you have to stay on the medicine if you don't you Will Loose it..
Depends on your genetics, not everybody is destined for a nw4-5-6.
At 60 or 50s I won’t care. I went through my 20s balding.
won't cloning hair solve this problem?

Yes I had shed from RU also

I've had a hair transplant for 17 years. Still have it
Without medicine?
Hasn’t progressed in over 10 years
Why did the medicine make him depressed?
P. S I was going to go to sapphire Hair clinic in Turkey at medistanbul hospital.???
Doesn't matter if you take them orally or topically, the drug becomes systemic and builds up.
And it's great. Hair Loss down 90% in my case and hair got thicker. It's good that such amazing med exists. You can take it every other day and it still works.

More testosterone more dht
Yep
I almost feel like Robbie is trolling.
Look at your mother side, if her dad is bald u are highly gonna go that way.hair loss can happen within months you can become bald.

He could’ve went to a shit surgeon also. So many things we don’t know. Btw, why not do the fue/smp combo and keep it short?! That’s my aim
Yes take it, it helps a lot, really makes big difference, not joking

Half of all men including famous celebrities are majorly balding or bald at that age atleast. No one cares, thick hair will not even make you more attractive at that age if your just self obsessed
Robbie also takes testosterone replacement so he's kind of doomed.
Omg you have no idea what you are talking about
The problem really seems to be that transplanted hair only survives one lifespan and that's about four years after that, according to studies, in 90% of patients the hair has receded or severely thinned. that sucks. :(
Thats what happens when people play smart and dont take Finasteride. The sooner men with AGA realise that Finasteride is a must take drug if you want to keep your hair the better.
