      A massive contribution BUT ONE of FIVE essential components
      Without any one (yeah, even Sid) it wouldn't have been Floyd.
      This is a clever and sensitive tribute - Deserves acknowledgement too

    I remember seeing Floyd at Newcastle City Hall UK around 74 when I was 16,and managed too get back stage after the gig.Met Nick Mason and Rick Wright.Rick in particular was just a really nice guy.happy to sign an autograph and took the time to chat.I think he never got the true recognition for his musical input in Floyd..🙏RIP

      you are correct. Rick Wright is one og the most Under rated Keyboardists in all of rock and roll. Sort of like Bassists.. everyone says "FLEA... Geddy Lee"...etc. etc. While Flea has said that Geddy was a huge influece on him as hea learned... Everyone time and time again overlooks a bassist/vocalist/songwriter that has made massive contributions to the art form we call rock and roll.. and that would be Chris Squire from YES "On the Silent Wings of Freedom" from the album > Tormato < has been one of my all time favorites since I was 10.... Far and away though... favorite Band? Pink Floyd all the way. There was something about the way they composed a song.. that special sauce I don't know but it effects people physically... In fact when Roger Waters Performed The Gunners Dream from the Pink Floyd album The Final Cut I personaly was an eye witness... by the time we were a minute into the song.. maybe 90 seconds.. the 4 rows in front of me and for a good 50 feet each direction were crying like they were at a funeralwe are talking almost 100 people just so emotionally touched they wept aloud... When you can make people sing along, you know you've got a hit... But when you can emotionally wipeout whole swathes of a crowd and reduce them to sobbing wrecks, that takes some secret sauce... THat's a talent very rare. Pink Floyd Had it .. Rick Wright definately had it and he should , by all of us, be celebrated for it. To all a blessed day.. thanks for your patience

    Richard Wright made David Gilmour sound very good as Rick didn't ever take the spotlight. I remember briefly seeing David Gilmour receive an award and spoke of Rick (how he was missed ) whilst the audience didn't even respond. David walked off the stage.

    • @davidsmith6355
      @davidsmith6355 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Ronald, I love what you said and I saw that award thing too. You just made me realise that David walked off, just thought it was an hurried moment when I saw it but I now think it was more than that. If so, well done David. Also agree that Rick was a foundation that others could launch from.

      Wright was horribly underrated by Waters. He may not have been a Rick Wakeman, but as far as establishing a distinctly unique sound that worked perfectly with the Floyd's style of music, he remains unparalleled. Waters never understood that it was the combination of the four members that generated the Floyd's success.
      ... Their success can never be attributed to any single member.

    • @ron1martens
      @ron1martens ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@0-by-1_Publishing_LLC Not that I know much of the life of band members ( in relation to Richard Wright from Roger Water's perspective) I would say I agree with you. From my understanding on the Wall it seems Roger Waters wanted everything to go the way he wanted opposed to letting other band members give their own signature. And so after the Wall the band dis banded. Whatever was going on behind the scenes just the facts (basic facts) Roger Waters sacked Richard Wright.David Gilmour reinstated Richard Wright. They then kept the band name Pink Floyd after some court cases. This I don't really get into. Then again I was interested enough to absorb these from what music people have spoken about.

      ... That's it in a nutshell. And everything that followed from Roger Waters' solo works and from the 3-person version of the Floyd never approached the quality of the full band where they were providing equal input. ... DSotM and "Echoes" are perfect examples.

      Agreed. Except the Division Bell sees a lot of Rick, and I think is one of the underrated albums from the band. (And before anyone says "Polly wrote all the lyrics," that's not true. She and David collaborated on most, with one lyric all Dave's and another longtime contributor Anthony Moore.)

      interesting what you say. I'll have a quiet listen to the vinyl record when the opportunity arises. Lyrics are not my thing. I often wonder why short songs are being made all the time. And no more long stretches like before. I also think that there is more soul in that early music, there were hardly any computers involved. So there is more talent on the part of the artist. Also the occupancy was not that great.

Silly comparison really but came to the same conclusion as my Gilmour - Hackett dilemna, Banks is perhaps technically better but Rick and Dave both have more soul. Also both are pretty decent singers too. Still love the Genesis pair though. Rick will never age now, hes a huge loss both to PF and the world, RIP dude

    Richard Wright did not play a leading role in Pink Floyd, but we all lucked out that Richard played a necessary role with better fit and synergy into Pink Floyd that any other keyboardist would have. As a lover of their vinyl double-album Umma Gumma, I admit I remain irritated that Wright had not even one listenable musical sequence in his 25% of that album (same goes for Nick Mason's 25%, but then I do not expect any music from a drummer).
