- Barn Jams are a series of instrumental pieces written by Pink Floyd guitarist, David Gilmour and performed by him and the core members of his 2006 On an Island Tour band, Guy Pratt on bass, Richard Wright on keyboards and Steve DiStanislao on drums. The sessions were recorded and filmed in a barn at David's home in Sussex, England, in January 2007.

Richard Wright is the element which leads you inside the time vortex, the black holes I mean the world beyond, where you feel the lift. And David's lead mind rests at that place. This music is for great souls free from addictions and materials

I think its just amazing how musicians can just jam and come up with amazing masterpieces like this. It's the good chemistry and mastery of the instruments i guess. Incredible.
At this point they had at least 46 year history so comfort, ideas have melded and trust to do whatever was already organized

I saw The Wall in 1980, About Face in 84, On an Island in 06 at Radio City and Rattle that Lock at MSG in 16. I feel so incredibly lucky and now I find these Barn Jams to make my day. Memorial Day Weekend 2021.
Guy Pratt is absolutely the luckiest man to walk on this planet! His talent has led him to work with the greatest bands in history. Not to mention that he married into the Pink Floyd "family". I was blessed to see him and Nick in Seattle in 2019--what a show!! Thank you, Guy!

I get goose bumps, listening to this. To me, this is spiritual. It puts me at ease like meditation. What a great talent David Gilmour is. I can put this on a loop and keep listening over and over and over again. Wow!

Those singularly unique Richard Wright textures were always absolutely sublime, nothing less than sheer perfection. The ultimate wave for Gilmour to surf in and out of, the perfect platform from for Pink Floyd to operate from. David wasn't wrong when he said, no Richard, no Pink.
100% my opinion. I could not believe, that Roger fired Rick. Without Rick there was no really Pink Floyd.

Amazing. Wish they would release this as an album. Did you know Guy Pratt is married to Richard's daughter. Hope their children have the same tastes in music and this continues for generations to come.

Not sure about the drummer but the bassist has been playing with Pink Floyd/David Gilmour since the late 80s. He was married to Richard Wright's daughter for a time.

This is nuts - Gilmour is on drums and it still sounds like Pink Floyd.

The first piece illustrates the keen ear Wright had for different keyboard sounds, synth, Hammond and Rhodes, and to Gilmour's guitar work. RIP.
What i like the most - is the last one. They switched the instruments but still it was 100% Pink Floyd. What a LEGENDS!!!

Well I WAS ready to finish my coffee and then mow the lawn. After listening to this slice of heaven, I am soooo sleepy. Gilmour is the only drug for me.
Magical, just magical. RIP Richard! I always felt that Rick contributed as much if not more to Floyd than Waters did. As a musician he was definitely on a higher level than Waters could ever hope to be.

Instrumental skills are nothing without passion ...however passion is sufficient itself..
RW is considered a good (not great) bass player - and he's not a bad guitar player - (also not nearly great like Gilmour, Beck or Clapton) - he's also got adequate keyboard skills - and in his prime he could deliver amazing vocal performances - but more often on records than live - ( i.e.: "Run Like Hell" from The Wall - note that Gilmour delivered some flat vocals on live recordings of DSOTM and others ) - so yes Roger is only a good (not great) musician - but make no mistake - every PF album released in the 70's are classics - and only because he was leading the way.
Haha. It’s funny cause now if you asked Rogers himself, he’d tell you he’s the musical genius, and could of probably played any instrument better than the rest of the band. RIP Wright. I won’t say the same when Rogers goes. What a dick.
This is auditory ambrosia...I agree ... Please share with us... let us hear all you've worked on over the years. We need you now more than ever.. You quiet my soul... Your playing is sublime... Divine... If there is a Good in my life it's the feeling you bring me when I hear you play... Particularly when you improvise... You've got God's fingers, Richard did too... My deepest condolences for your loss of such an amazing friend, partner and confidant.

No one even comes close to making music like this anymore! There isn't any 'new music ' out there that's worth my time. These guys from the '70's kicked things out of the park and into the musical history books...LEGENDS!!

I like Waters, but watching his solo performances you can see his ego get in the way of the music, he makes it all about him. Check out his live performance in Mexico, there are some awesome sets but he truly makes it all about him, promoting the base lines above the leads and hamming up each note. It really takes away from the music as a whole
The way I look at The Floyd, Syd was the Inspiration, Nick as the Heart Beat, Rick as the soul, Roger as the Driving Force and Dave as the Redeemer
they were all the soul. It's like all the good band in the world...they all fight each others cause when you do a band, you can't do everything, you have to make compromises all the time...Roger was maybe not the best, but he was good do lead the band for quite a long time...I found that stupid that they could not continu all together...I like The division bells, Momentary lapse of reason and others without Roger waters....but seriously, the best track are with Roger, like Dogs, Echoes etc etc....some people will say "it's not because of Roger Waters"...well, I'm not that sure.

Clapton is good but I think he’s more bluesy.
Clapton is straight blues, and Gilmore gets his chops from the same interdimensional alien quasi-time space blues void that Hendrix did

David: "Cool. Why don't you all come over to the barn and we'll jam out some random noise that is 10,000x better than anything on the radio."
Everyone else: "Sure, why not."
And they created a melancholic bluesy sound.
Totally agree that was a great listening experience loved every minute, you can feel the passion and the groove RIP Mr Wright

In this clip, the sound and video quality is not top I admit, but for musicians and to people that like to see how music is made. this is recommended to watch.

This takes me back to the days when me and my friends would do the same thing. Hours just jammin' on whatever came to mind and shifting gears when our mind changed.
2 of the most talented people playing together is awesome. Just think if the whole band was alive and able to play together again. Think what music they would make now. Age makes people play better. Think of the songs they could be making. Mind blowing!!!

Omg, this is pure magic, thanks for posting! IMO, David and Rick were PF, David was the meat and Rick the gravy lol! I play guitar but saying that in the context of these men is like saying I’m a chef who’s specifically is boiled eggs! I heard them first in ‘69 saw them on the Animals tour they are my second love in music, second to the Beatles only because in ‘64 my beloved aunt made me sit and listen to A Hard Day’s Night. I love her so much!
All of this is more engaging than The Endless River. Musicians making music. Thanks for sharing.
