This video is just a little biased...... Just a little. (Sarcasm). By the way what's the point of doing a comparison when not even comparing THE SAME IMAGE?!
I do feel you missed a few really important usability features of the G7X: A properly functioning auto-ISO implementation (as far as I understand there is no way to set the minimum shutter speed on the Sony which almost makes it broken) A dedicated exposure compensation deal. Better auto-iso implementation (with exposure compensation) on manual mode as you get access to three separate dials (aperture on the front, shutter speed on the back and the dedicated exposure compensation deal). Very easy to manually prefocus at a specific focal distance using the electronic distance scale. Finally I find the touch to shutter feature extremely useful for capturing candid moments and the like. Not saying that the Canon is perfect (never liked Canon, this is my first one) and it's definitely not as innovative as the RX100 series has been but I still think it makes for a good competitor to the RX100iii.
You forgot to mention the DIGIC 6 processor in the G7X. It allows it to maintain a 6.7 FPS burst for approx. 700 shots. You also never have to wait for it to write to the card, it's ready to go immediately. It's touch activated focus tracking is also really quick, responsive and intelligent.
Awesomest look on the video. Best I've seen from this channel. That's it Jordan, let Levi do the video work with the A7s, you might as well get in front of the camera as foil to Chris' teasing. Btw I was waiting for Chris to drop the camera during his tossing session
It sounds like in this review that Sony won so why is it that a lot of TH-camrs use the Canon G7x? Is there something for vlogging that the Canon one has over the Sony for that reason?
I'm guessing it might be the ease of use. You can just shoot in auto without thinking about it, you have less options to worry about. I've heard the sony miv is also really unreliable as a lot of errors can pop up and the canon is a lot more reliable
The simple thing is g7x is a turn on and go camera for vloggers. Everything would usually be set up right, colors etc. sony u gotta change a bit more for videos. But photography wise sony wins easily
Cannon is less expensive and I saved my money for Sony electronics because they are very long lasting I barely have problems however I'm noticing and have been reading that there quality isn't as long lasting as there older products.
You guys should film all your video's with the a7s. The video quality shocked me. Just like I was watching a movie trailer. Love the Cinematic look. Low light performance is super awesome. It looked like you guys where working with video lights.
I know the song is from the royalty free music site, however, I 'm wondering what the name is specifically. I'm talking about the one that starts at around 1:20. Thanks!
G7X is a little bit under the RX100 III we agree but no need to be so mean. G7X is strong, fast, has a good image, has a tilting touch screen, a longer zoom, and it is 350 $ less than the RX100 III. I've got the Sony, it looks more modern, has more accessories (straps) in the box and the image is just fantastic and detailed.
Bravo! Well done on this video. You guys keep making these Jordan-Chris tandem videos! They are superb! This is by far the best channel for camera and lens reviews. Perfect blend of tech savviness and entertainment.
I have owned both cameras and if your going to shoot Video with these your going to want to have the G7X. These guys are fools if they think the Sony is better with better video quality....Sony has lots of clicking noise in the audio...and Canon doesn't have that.
I have the RX100mk3 and honestly, it's not a very nice camera to handle... it might take good pictures, but it doesn't feel good in hand, which I remember Canon being much better at. Also one thing you don't talk much about is the high usefulness of this touch screen. You can immediately select the focus point, which is so much better than using a dial!!
all opinion, except the touch screen would be nice. i can honestly say i dont miss the touch screen at all because i mostly use the focus peaking and the dial to focus. if you have the mkiii i suggest purchasing the grip if its hard for you to handle. maybe that will help
Also the color accuracy on the Sony rx100m3 is HORIBBLE!!!! I have one and it sucks ass in color accuracy in comparison to my iPhone 6 plus, what an EMBARRASSMENT Sony
I've been a huge supporter for The Camera Store TV and I would say this is by far the most beautiful video ever made by TCS after watching the first minutes. Great work guys !
I'm sorry but after checking out the G7x, it is actually a LOT BETTER than how you guys describe it in this video. This video is just mainly Canon bashing.
astigmatik I agree with you that the Canon G7X is much better than mentioned in this video. And after holding the Sony vs the Canon, the Canon feels more solid and durable. Plus, Sony has had 3 interactions to perfect their design while this is Canon's first attempt. I feel like the 24-100mm lens, touch screen, build quality, and price out weight what Sony has to offer.
How is the canon at photography? I heard the sony brings more bokeh when taking close up shots. For bloggers, would you recommend the g7x ii? I really want to be convinced yes
Dang, the G7x was my hope for a cheaper RX100 but it looks like the Sony still wins. Thanks TCSTV and might I say the low light video (on the Sony A7s) looks amazing.
LOVENLIGHT They made some good conclusions and I don't think it was biased. The Canon is definitely behind Sony. Everyone knew that when the Canon was released and now that samples are coming out, no one should be surprised. (BTW, I own the Canon EOS M so I am not a Sony fanboy)
Harold Carlson I had to delete my comment Harold, sorry, thankfully I did some more research and found that whilst the sony has less optical zoom and fails to hold aperture as well as the canon the new XAVC S video codec of the sony is 50mbps and makes a far superior video quality, which is my main interest and its true that the photos are sharper, so I guess this review was right... I will be getting the sony instead! :)
If you are looking to do a lot of video in custom settings, the RX100m3 is the way to go. I think a case can still be made for the Canon, however, if you are buying it for photos. Some of the points made in this video (whether you call them bias, or not) are somewhat ridiculous. The Canon flip screen is in fact BETTER than the Sony. I have used both cameras, and (now) own the G7X from Canon, and the flip screen is far far far more stable and sturdy at the hinge. All angled can be achieved by simply and comfortably holding the camera upside down for rare overhead shots. The focusing from macro to infinity was also a joke, you would use the front ring to do so only for micro adjustments, the Canon can touch-screen change from macro focus to infinity almost instantly, blowing away the Sony in this regard, as it spins away and the loose feeling and highly inexact (laggy) wheel interface. The touch focus is very useful not only for the above, but also for photographs of moving objects; I can touch the screen on my daughter's face, and as she runs around the focus will follow her face. This is INVALUABLE. The touch interface, and Canons entire menu system blows Sony's out of the water. It is faster and better laid out to any logical mind, save those trained in Sony bad habbits. The faster lens performance and greater focal range is another amazing difference, to which the video attempted to glaze over, you WILL miss that extra zoom. After using both camera's and taking into account price point, and the fact that I seldom use a compact camera for video, the G7X got my dollars, and I could not be happier with the decision. Every photographer has different needs, and each camera suits a different set of needs, but both cameras take great photographs. Watching this video, I was disappointed with the lack of information provided, and almost felt I was watching either an advertisement for Sony, or one man's quest to be "better" regardless of fact.
sony better at higher iso and continues to have a tilt bounce flash...give it another year or two and i can see canon making their high end p&s better than sony though....the g7x colors are good though...but sony colors still more natural looking...go here to look at a pic review www.mobile01.com/newsdetail.php?id=15679
Do you know how to do rough adjust for MF for G7X? You push down button for rough adjust then use ring for fine adjust. You don't use the only ring for rough adjust from the first.
Why would you buy any of those cameras? at the price, you will not be stuffing them in a pocket without a case, and they cost more than many DSLR's that will offer better image quality, as well as better low light performance for not to much additional size and weight. For $100 less than the RX100 MK III, you can get the Nikon D5300, or the sony A6000 both with kit lens (both offer better performance and image quality, which only gets even better when you get a better lens). Both of the point and shoot cameras used in the video are simply priced way too high, they would be good for the $200-250 price range. Keep in mind that unless you are taking pictures of things that are not moving, , there are not too many times of day where you will be able to use the lowest ISO and use a shutter speed high enough to freeze the action, and the issues with these cameras is that with even a small increase in ISO, you lose a ton of fine detail if you pixel peep. Based on reviews done by DXO mark, the A6000 loses most of its fine detail as ISO 1347 while the RX100 III loses most of its fine detail at just ISO 495 (their results are based on testing the each ISO option and then taking an image of a res chart under ideal lighting conditions, then taking a picture to give each camera the best chance to capture as much detail as possible. The main reason why DXO mark will sometimes give odd ISO figures, is because after using each ISO setting on the camera, they graph the results and with an assumption of some linearity in the ISO performance, they attempt to find the exact point at which much of the fine detail is lost.
I did carry my brand new G7 X in pocket today. It fits there nicely, although it's a bit heavy. It's much more convenient than dangling DSLR on your neck. There are places for both and I have both, but as compact camera, these are great for walking around.
The issue is that these cameras do not use gorilla glass and are easier to scratch. The build in lens covers are also close enough to the lens that any pressure on the lens cover causes the flaps to touch the glass. people who regularly put their cameras in their pockets, will end up with marks on the front element. overall it is risky for such an expensive camera to be in a pocket with no protection.
Razor2048 My phone doesn't have gorilla glass and with the same simple plastic screen protector I still haven't got any scratches after 500 or so of days in my pocket. I don't carry sand there :) The biggest problem is fine dust, it will get in much sooner when it's moving around in pocket. I just checked the lens cover. It's plastic but reasonably sturdy. It's also slightly inset, so you would have to carry small and pointy things to push right inside the lens barrel. Also the front element is curved which means only the centermost spot can get scratched. More pressure and you will break the cover to pieces, it holds well in its rails around the border. But yeah, some simple soft bag is more convenient and safer for carrying around, no matter in which place. I plan to get one too.
becaue you do stuff them in a pocket without a case (And even with a case, since they are still very small). I don't know how you can even remotely compare the size to any DSLR or even to a crummy M series or whatnot. I use my DSLR for most things, but when when the RX100 is just fantastic in that it can fit in a pocket so you always have it, you don't miss that bear or sunset out of nowhere and it's not a total drag at a party or whatnot like a DSLR would be.
you won´t loose much of image quality and low light performance with any of those two compared to an dslr/mirrorless camera with slow kit lens. but the package is much smaller. if thats worth the high price...thats up to decide for anybode himself. i guess most buyers are enthusiasts or even professionells who already own lots of equipment, but want a small decent camera for everyday usw and still get good image quality out of it. price it not so relevant here. a 1" sensor seems to be the best compromise today.
It's refreshing to see so that so many people realize Canon is simply behind the ball most of the time now. They really need a ground breaking product to take the market by storm instead of trying to imitate near perfect cameras like the Sony RX100. As a part Canon / Panasonic / Sony shooter, I am always disappointed by Canons offerings.
WOOOO HOOOO !!!! GO SONY!!!! I am a Canon guy. I waited for Canon to trounce Sony RX100 III !!! Canon Powershot G7x is wrestled to the mat by Sony no problem at all. Thank you guys! Thank you CameraStore. Now I have made up my mind after a long long long wait. Sony Rx100 III is it!
Not sure many are doing Manual Focus on such a small compact :) although I love the EVF I think 90% or more of pics are taken using LCD unless you live in Sunny states like Colorado and California :) DXO gives Canon sensor higher score and has a longer lens and a bit brighter - ( RX100m3 stops down quicker ) - but Sony RX100m3 has better video and EVF and filters - and Canon costs less - so no clear winner - I think the Canon as an edge with the Touch To Focus and Touch To Shoot vs up up up left left to move focus point - something an average to beginner will love and will create more in focus images
Thanks so much for your review. It was very informative and very helpful. I did actually opt for the Canon G7 X over the Sony for a few reasons, the biggest being that at this moment in time it's significantly cheaper--$150 cheaper. Plus, I don't really care about an electronic view finder, and I prefer the clicky wheel to the smooth wheel. I can't see a significant reason to manual focus when I can just touch the screen to focus. I like the extra zoom in the Canon. Perhaps if I had the extra money, I would spring for the Sony, but I'm just not sure the advantages are worth the money. I did find a reason to use manual focus. I was taking a hand-held photo of a spider, and tapping the screen wasn't working, since the spider was too small. I switched to manual focus. The camera default is not the clicky wheel, but the dial in the back of the camera. You can push it down or up to quickly get you into the ball park, and then rotate it to fine tune it. It worked just fine. Perhaps the Sony way is smoother, but the Canon way is nothing really to complain about, especially since it will be used so infrequently. I also did some checking on the IQ of the Canon v. the Sony on the dpreview website. At the center shooting RAW, it was difficult to see a significant difference between the two cameras. But at the corners, Canon appeared to be significantly sharper at 1:1. Noise seemed to be nearly identical in both cameras. Whatever advantages you saw with the Sony, my guess is it's not reproducible in all situations. They're so close to each other that in any given situation, either camera may appear better, but not by much. And so given the longer, brighter lens on the Canon, I think that should give the nod to Canon for still photo image quality.
+Scott Simmons Thanks for the input. I haven't found the RX 100 for under $1000 in Canada, which is ridiculous. The click focus seems stupid, especially since I shoot a lot of video, but if it's not an issue for you that's great to know.
The Last Grownup in the Woods Thanks! Yea, for me it's a matter of preference, but the touch screen seems really helpful for selecting points of focus. The front click ring might be frustrating for people who want to use it for zoom, but I just couldn't justify the extra $150 for it.
+Scott Simmons I think that the smartest choice is RX100 mark one or mark two. :) Price is lower that Canon and mark 3 isn´t much better, if you don´t need viewfinder, movable screen, or better f stop on the end of the zoom. Video is still better, camera is still faster etc.
I'm thinking of getting into photography and am getting tired of using my iPhone. I was thinking that the RX100 M3 would be a good starter camera for me as its not a DSLR and I can bring it more places. I'm going on an trip to New York and Washington D.C. with my Architecture class in a few weeks and know I wouldn't be able to carry around a DSLR all day because I will be walking everywhere. Would this be a good first camera for me?
I got the Canon G7 X today. There are good point in this video but some of them you can live with more easily. Like shooting upside down with the one-way tilting screen, manual focusing with the smoother back ring, customizing other buttons than just the front ring. There are downsides like the overly clicky front ring, no frame rates over 60 fps, and less videos settings in general. I don't really mind missing EVF, especially that small one with my glasses. Upsides are very useful touch screen, faster lens across the range, the reach to 100mm eqiv., and of course, the price! In my country G7 X is 25% cheaper than the RX100 III.
EDHBlvd rx100 lens is terrible enough to give u pink corners on the wide end and soft 100mm with yellow-green corner at the tele-end. that's why I sold it.
swtethan i have seen this happen in a tamron lense a couple of years back, had something to do with the angle of light hitting the different coatings, changing throughout the zoom.
Great video guys! I am a fuji shooting, I love my x-t1, but I been thinking on getting something more pocketable and with better video. I am really liking the sony, specially for its size, but, the panasonic lx100 sounds like a better deal, if you had a choice between the 2, which one would you go for?
what about the m2 vs the m3 does it do relatively the same? or what its the biggest distinguishable feature, now i want the sony for sure! just dont know which one
Can I just say the shot around the 9:20 point of the two guys kneeling over is beautiful. The depth of field is awesome and they were in low lighting as well. What camera was used to shoot this video?
Say..I do not like the footage of the cam you used here. I noted that it was a Sony A7s, I also noted the light was somewhat low. But the output simply does not look good at all. What has happened here?
Just a small suggestion - maybe it would be much easier for the audience to compare the quality of photos these two cameras take if they weren't of completely different things?
I never ever use view finders. I'm wanting one of these cameras and I'm seriously leaning towards the canon g7x. If you've used any of these please can you tell me what's good/bad about them ignoring the view finder aspect because I don't care for that feature at all.
Oh, I see this comment so late. Sorry if this is too late. If you are not a vlogger, please go for EOS M10. M10 take good selfie with some selfie features. G7X take selfie with no feature about selfie (the result is sill okay though) but if you want a lot of selfie features then GF7,GF8 take the cake although I'm not sure if you will like Panasonic color tone. G7X is a compact camera but it is not compact enough in many situations, the size is not jean pocketable and I don't wear coat, I tried even put in messenger bag but I always feel the weight of 300+ grams camera in the bag which is not acceptable because it is in small entry mirrorless camera with kit lens weight range (pretty sure It feels just like GM1, GM5 , GF7, EOS M1,2,10 in my shoulder bag). If you want fully pocketable then Canon G9X is the only option but no flip screen, it is still better than smartphone but many times it is negligible to me. There is no reason to go for G7X if you are not use it for vlogging. Even so EOS M10 can be use for vlogging too. Video 1080p60fps vs 1080p30fps is not much diference for G7X and M10. You will likely stick with 30fps more often if you are not publish them in TH-cam.
This is one of the best video you've produced. The review-as-a-conversation format works really well. And yes, the bromance is strong between you two!!! Keep it coming!
had a hard time deciding between rx100m3 vs g7x. i feel like perhaps maybe, just maybe g7xm2 will be the camera to get. but after seeing this video, i wouldnt get the first generation g7x. i think it is a camera i would consider in a few years and decide then. hopefully canon improves on it. the rx100m3 jsut seems more refined being it is a third incarnation, so it has more experience and improvements. to be honest, i'm looking forward to rx100m4 and g7xm2. but since i need a camera so badly a this very moment, i'm going to opt for the rx100m3.
You got sucked in by a one-sided analysis. They played up the minor differences that favor the Sony and played down some minor and some not-so minor differences than favor the Canon. I'd say the Sony has a slight edge in sharpness (because it has a less ambitious lens) but the Canon has a large edge in usability. I've used both and I usually like their reviews, but I think they blew this one. The only really compelling reason I see to get the Sony is if you really want an EVF. Beyond that I'll take the portrait range and shooter-friendliness of the G7X. I bought the G7X rather than another RX100 and I'm extremely happy with it...
Ray S. Thank you for your insight. Yes I think that extra zoom range of the g7x is definitely useful, and I can see why it is an easy trade-off over the rx100m3. the rx100m3 would have been perfect if the zoom range was longer. I do have experience with Canon's menu system and setup, and I do agree it's easier to use. I'm still up in the air as far as which camera to buy. I will continue to read up on professional and user reviews regarding the g7x and decide after a month.
sony a bit more natural looking colors, but canon has fantastic colors. sony better at higher iso and tiltable bounce flash...check this great pic review...just keep scrolling www.mobile01.com/newsdetail.php?id=15679
Even though the Sony is a 3rd generation, I did not find it more usable or thought out. In fact, things like the flip up screen just seem like after-thoughts. It actually rubs on the back of the camera as you open it! The canon just felt more refined as crazy as it sounds.
Thank you! I was planning on exchanging my S120 for the G7X but my macbook couldn't handle 60fps without making the file huge in gb. Went to best buy to see for myself but none of their displays turned on
My wife and I were just talking about how this channel is 10x better then the drivel that Kai and DRTV put out. His channel used to be decent until he started using sex appeal as a cheap way to garner views. The most annoying is his lame penis and fart jokes about everything he puts his hand on.
Another great video guys, glad to see more Jordan reviewing fun too. You bounce off each other so well. And the empathy line - ouch, zing. By the way, amidst all the excellent gear reviews it'd be nice one day to see a video looking over the photographers and cinematographers that excite the both of you and get you itching to shoot.
I got the the G7x. And i was really dissappointed weith tryin gto use the manual focus. I thought it was my own fault, but I see you guys had the same problem. Another thing to mention is the battery life sucks in the G7x. If you plug it in to a computer to transfer files ro something else, the camera looks like it went to sleep and is just being a card reader, but in fact the camera is still on and won't turn itself off automatically. You will later be greeted with a dead battery. I also wish the screen would tilt in the other direction also. Some people call this a selfie camera, which I rarely take selfie pics, but I must admit it does a very good job at selfie pics, and video in low light rooms was much better than a Samsung S5 phone and a GoPro Hero 4 Black.
I loved the 'shootout' format of this video. I've seen many 'vs." style comparison videos, but this is definitely the way to compare similar cameras! Subscribed! Please do one for the RX-100 IV!!
Hi Chris & Jordan, just wondering how's the out of camera jpeg performance comparison? I have LX5 which is a nice camera, but the OOC jpeg is kinda disappointing. This is kinda incovinient for my wife who is a point and shoot person (if shoot raw). I also saw from somewhere that the sony skin tone is cooler while canon one is warmer (more pleasing to see). Do you have the same observation? Thanks!
I usually like your reviews, but couldn't disagree with this one more. If you want to shoot the G7X overhead, just turn it upside down! No mention of the dedicated exposure comp dial. No mention of a pretty fully functional auto-ISO setup on the Canon and a crippled one on the Sony. No mention of the distance scale for MF on the Canon with nothing of the sort on the Sony. I don't think much of Canon as a company either, but in a head to head between these two cameras, I find the Sony to be an absolute dog and the Canon to be a blast to shoot with. Yeah, the Sony is a bit sharper under pixel peeping, particularly at the wide end. But it's got a really useable portrait range that the Sony lacks and it's plenty sharp out there. I think this review totally misses the mark. But then, opinions are like assssssss.... oh, never mind...
I also made an open box video of G7X MARK II in my vlog, one thing i have to mention is the ring in the front makes noises when zooming in the video mode. Which really bothers me. The other thing is the battery cover makes extra step for me to close, but overall i still give the canon g7x mark ii a 5 stars review.
Hello i'm thinking of buying Sony RX100M3 or Canon S120 or Canon G7, But i need to buy the one which can film Full Hd video for about an hour non-stop (or more=( I'm not sure but probably none of them can do that=( Can you verify that information? 0_0
hei am a canon user you know that is gx7 mark 2 you are comparing why dont you get gx7 mark iii and sony lx100 mark iii that would be batter. so will you do for us another revew mark iii vases mark iii.
Thanks for the entertainment guys. I purchased the Sony RX100 MK3 when it first came out and it has proven to be an excellent lightweight piece of kit. Love some of the heated discussion below, very entertaining.
This video is just a little biased...... Just a little. (Sarcasm). By the way what's the point of doing a comparison when not even comparing THE SAME IMAGE?!
+KontryBoy706 I was thinking the same thing. It would have been so much easier to see differences if the images had been of the same shots.
+KontryBoy706 That's the first thing I wondered about too.
to specifically annoy you
I do feel you missed a few really important usability features of the G7X:
A properly functioning auto-ISO implementation (as far as I understand there is no way to set the minimum shutter speed on the Sony which almost makes it broken)
A dedicated exposure compensation deal.
Agreed I like duel hosting approach. Opinions can be bounced out each other and you get a better conclusion
The look of the video is indeed mindblowing...!
It sounds like in this review that Sony won so why is it that a lot of TH-camrs use the Canon G7x? Is there something for vlogging that the Canon one has over the Sony for that reason?
Dying to understand this too!
I'm guessing it might be the ease of use. You can just shoot in auto without thinking about it, you have less options to worry about. I've heard the sony miv is also really unreliable as a lot of errors can pop up and the canon is a lot more reliable

Cannon is less expensive and I saved my money for Sony electronics because they are very long lasting I barely have problems however I'm noticing and have been reading that there quality isn't as long lasting as there older products.
+jk1whitetiger sadly, im planning to buy canon g7x..but in this video i have to think twice i guess??
Just me, or is the intro scene (them standing by the river) extremely low detail? Like upscaled 480p or something there abouts.
I see it too
It's out of focus. Levi (our camera operator/editor for this episode) was suitably punished.
Jordan @ TCSTV
TheCameraStoreTV Good :P I had to skip into the video to check if it all was like that before I commented :P
Not always easy to nail perfect focus for video on such a small screen :(
Terran Media True true. Or for photography at times.. four hours of time lapse blurry, a few weeks ago :P More than slightly annoying :P
You guys should film all your video's with the a7s.
The video quality shocked me. Just like I was watching a movie trailer. Love the Cinematic look. Low light performance is super awesome.
It looked like you guys where working with video lights.
The a7s steals the show in the video, that footage is amazing in such low light!
7:00 I started panicking lol
You can't go wrong with G7X.. Bought after watching this vids. Loving it :)
I know the song is from the royalty free music site, however, I 'm wondering what the name is specifically. I'm talking about the one that starts at around 1:20. Thanks!

The sound of the autofocus on the canon didn’t bother you?
I have the RX100mk3 and honestly, it's not a very nice camera to handle... it might take good pictures, but it doesn't feel good in hand, which I remember Canon being much better at.
Also one thing you don't talk much about is the high usefulness of this touch screen. You can immediately select the focus point, which is so much better than using a dial!!
all opinion, except the touch screen would be nice. i can honestly say i dont miss the touch screen at all because i mostly use the focus peaking and the dial to focus. if you have the mkiii i suggest purchasing the grip if its hard for you to handle. maybe that will help
well, yes, it's my opinion :-)
personal preference, right? i for one usually don't like the canon dial and UI layout, but others might find it to be exactly what they want.
Also the color accuracy on the Sony rx100m3 is HORIBBLE!!!! I have one and it sucks ass in color accuracy in comparison to my iPhone 6 plus, what an EMBARRASSMENT Sony
This should be a regular series, you guys are hilarious!! Id love to see the how you think the cannon g5x stands up
+Ashley Ball We're editing another Chris vs Jordan shootout right now!

TheCameraStoreTV No way!! Well I just bought a g5x today...hope if you guys do include it, it's positive 😂 Thanks!!
The dialogue and rebuttals are so well thought out. Great video!!!
Chris can you guys do a comparison with the new Canon G7X mark ii vs Sony RX 100 m4? Excited to see what the new differences are.
LOVENLIGHT
They made some good conclusions and I don't think it was biased. The Canon is definitely behind Sony. Everyone knew that when the Canon was released and now that samples are coming out, no one should be surprised. (BTW, I own the Canon EOS M so I am not a Sony fanboy)
Harold Carlson
I had to delete my comment Harold, sorry, thankfully I did some more research and found that whilst the sony has less optical zoom and fails to hold aperture as well as the canon the new XAVC S video codec of the sony is 50mbps and makes a far superior video quality, which is my main interest and its true that the photos are sharper, so I guess this review was right...
Watching this video, I was disappointed with the lack of information provided, and almost felt I was watching either an advertisement for Sony, or one man's quest to be "better" regardless of fact.
sony better at higher iso and continues to have a tilt bounce flash...give it another year or two and i can see canon making their high end p&s better than sony though....the g7x colors are good though...but sony colors still more natural looking...go here to look at a pic review

CalmPlains Love this counterpoint! I guess you just have to go to the store and play with each one.
Which steadycam did you use for this video? :)
The walking shot on that small road made me curious too. Hope someone answers this.
Levi used a Glidecam HD2000 to shoot the walkand talks.
Jordan @ TCSTV
+TheCameraStoreTV do u do alottah post? it seems rock stead when standing still.
So should I wait out for the Canon G7X mark 3?
the mark 2 just came out
i wanna know what camera did you guys used for this video
You two should do this sort of shoot out vids more often. Realy entertaining.
Too much talking about nothing... which camera do I buy?
What mics are you guys using in this video? Good review btw
Hi! Which one would you buy G7X or RX100M2? They are in the same price range unlike G7X and RX100M3
how come I keep getting this feeling that . . . they are like Apple vs. Window? hahaha
'Canonitis' definition made me laugh. And nice job with the a7s in this video.
please stop flipping a expensive camera in the air.. some people in the world dream of a camera like that and you are throwing it in the air?
Lol. I know !!
he thinks he's the shit by throwing it in the air and I'm pretty sure he's doing it because he got the camera for free. Sponsored video? hmmmm....
They belong to rich country they don't care a shit about here I worked 1.21$ on hourly wage fuck my life 😢
Not sure many are doing Manual Focus on such a small compact :) although I love the EVF I think 90% or more of pics are taken using LCD unless you live in Sunny states like Colorado and California :) DXO gives Canon sensor higher score and has a longer lens and a bit brighter - ( RX100m3 stops down quicker ) - but Sony RX100m3 has better video and EVF and filters - and Canon costs less - so no clear winner -
I think the Canon as an edge with the Touch To Focus and Touch To Shoot vs up up up left left to move focus point - something an average to beginner will love and will create more in focus images
Anadolu agree with you on everything you said. It's the smarter choice.
+chahem Thanks!
Which do you think is better as a traveling camera for 2019? the G7X M2 or the RX100 M3? especially for photos and selfies
One thing nobody mention is the durability and reliability of the cameras. Sony has great cameras but are very delicate.
Why put a viewfinder with extra volume, weight and cost if you have allready an lcd?
Can you send videos from canon g7x to mobile phone throu wi-fi?
is it hard to take pictures with everything in focus because the lowest aperture is 2.8?
What kind of camera used in the filming of the report please
+استديو ذوق studio4sound Filmed on the Sony A7S
thank you my frind ^_^
Every time Chris tossed his camera in the air I had to reflexively glance over at my own RX100m3. You madman!
Hey Jordan, what is the tripod you have in your hand at 6:07?
You guys killed it with this. Jordan especially stepping up his skills in front of the camera. Thoroughly enjoyable.
7:00 i wanna punch him in the face for tossing that gold in the air...
is the g7x mark 2 a much competitor? or is the sony rx 100 better still?
You should have bought the RX100 mk1 and saved money.
EDHBlvd Why?
EDHBlvd rx100 lens is terrible enough to give u pink corners on the wide end and soft 100mm with yellow-green corner at the tele-end. that's why I sold it.
Yannick Khong Thats absolutely NOT true. How can the SAME zoom lens change colors from wide angle to another color in telephoto? Rubbish claims.
swtethan i have seen this happen in a tamron lense a couple of years back, had something to do with the angle of light hitting the different coatings, changing throughout the zoom.
You guys have the best camera reviews on the internet. Keep it up.
5 yers later Canon is still around. And still doesn’t cut it with the G7X Mark III autofocus! Insane....
Can I just say the shot around the 9:20 point of the two guys kneeling over is beautiful. The depth of field is awesome and they were in low lighting as well. What camera was used to shoot this video?
XiLeFFeLiX after listening further i heard it was an A7s
For all of u that agreed on the G7 X thanks you made me feel less bad for buying the camera but i've got to admit the ring is pretty annoying
Say..I do not like the footage of the cam you used here. I noted that it was a Sony A7s, I also noted the light was somewhat low. But the output simply does not look good at all. What has happened here?
It was out of focus in parts of this video
I agree completely. Either a poor choice of LUT or incompetent post production. The A7S deserves better than this.
Hey guys, what camera (doesn't have to be any the two reviewed here) would you recommend for (new) vloggers? Thanks
Which is the best one between Canon EOS M10 and Canon G7X ? it's not for
vlogging, but more often taking a selfie and then making a video. Pls
help :)
g7x
What location was this shot at, its beautiful.
South Calgary, near the Bow River.
Jordan @ TCSTV
As an avid Canon user, I bought the RX100 M3 when it first came out and I still love it. This just makes me feel that much better about my choice.
But you can manual focus via touch screen, or not? And it is much better than any focus ring..
had a hard time deciding between rx100m3 vs g7x. i feel like perhaps maybe, just maybe g7xm2 will be the camera to get. but after seeing this video, i wouldnt get the first generation g7x. i think it is a camera i would consider in a few years and decide then. hopefully canon improves on it.
the rx100m3 jsut seems more refined being it is a third incarnation, so it has more experience and improvements. to be honest, i'm looking forward to rx100m4 and g7xm2. but since i need a camera so badly a this very moment, i'm going to opt for the rx100m3.
I will continue to read up on professional and user reviews regarding the g7x and decide after a month.
sony a bit more natural looking colors, but canon has fantastic colors. sony better at higher iso and tiltable bounce flash...check this great pic review...just keep scrolling
www.mobile01.com/newsdetail.php?id=15679
Even though the Sony is a 3rd generation, I did not find it more usable or thought out. In fact, things like the flip up screen just seem like after-thoughts. It actually rubs on the back of the camera as you open it! The canon just felt more refined as crazy as it sounds.
I may look kx100 to replace my rx100 in the coming year. Lx100 clicks all boxes for me.
Hi. Would you recommend the G7Mk II or the Sony RX100 M3? thank you
I know that the Canon g7x records video at 60fps, is it possible to also shoot it at 30fps?
Yes, the majority of the G7X footage in this video was captured at 30P.
Jordan @ TCSTV
Thank you! I was planning on exchanging my S120 for the G7X but my macbook couldn't handle 60fps without making the file huge in gb. Went to best buy to see for myself but none of their displays turned on
So which one is better for vlogging
I usually like your reviews, simply because they´re useful, but PLEASE, guys, don´t Kai it down...
My wife and I were just talking about how this channel is 10x better then the drivel that Kai and DRTV put out. His channel used to be decent until he started using sex appeal as a cheap way to garner views. The most annoying is his lame penis and fart jokes about everything he puts his hand on.
please explain how these guys "kai"d it down?
i really liked the "competitive" review of the two cameras.
waldomarek Maybe OP meant to keep doing what they doing.
onishchuk4 to me it sounds like he's not pleased on how the videos are going...
waldomarek Whoops, I think you right. Misread the "usually" part.
Another great review. Thank you guys. A bit of a coup as this is the first field review of the Canon G7X I've seen on TH-cam.
Does the g7x ii only shoot in mp4 format?
on what was this shot... and how was the sound done?
Would you review the Olympus EPL-7? I'm deciding between the EPL-7 or RX100 Mk 3 for selfie videos and photos. Cheers!
can you please do a video about the differences of canon g7x and canon m3?
Can you guys please put the equivalent focal lens with the rest of the EXIF info you are showing with all the still samples!
Thanks.
Thanks!
Does the RX100 line have reliability issues? The W series was dook, that's what's holding me back.
FANTASTIC comparison, guys!!!!! I was a little tempted by Canon's longer focal length, but not after watching THIS vid.
Thanks!!!!!
Did you guys shot using the sony a7s slog-2?
The other thing is the battery cover makes extra step for me to close, but overall i still give the canon g7x mark ii a 5 stars review.
can u help me? how do i change the ring settings so i will be able to focus w/ it? ,(rx100 m3)
Hello i'm thinking of buying Sony RX100M3 or Canon S120 or Canon G7, But i need to buy the one which can film Full Hd video for about an hour non-stop (or more=( I'm not sure but probably none of them can do that=( Can you verify that information? 0_0
What was the small tripod Jordan was carrying? Would be perfect for a bike trip.
That shots in the beggining of the video, at the sunlight, looks like a lovestory :)
Great review, we want more! :)
Love the banter between you guys, thanks
Does either have anti shake option for video? is any 4k?
Was the EOSM Canonitis patient zero? Is a pro caliber Canon mirrorless the cure? I think it is.
Does the Sony offer a timelapse capability tho?
where is this place? The view is astonishing, I gotta know
Chris, your reaction at 10:18 is the absolute best. I laughed so hard during this review. Thanks for the good laughs and an entertaining review.
hei am a canon user you know that is gx7 mark 2 you are comparing why dont you get gx7 mark iii and sony lx100 mark iii that would be batter.
so will you do for us another revew mark iii vases mark iii.
First time viewer; really enjoyed it. You got yourself a subscriber! Keep it up :)
Thanks for the entertainment guys. I purchased the Sony RX100 MK3 when it first came out and it has proven to be an excellent lightweight piece of kit. Love some of the heated discussion below, very entertaining.
the grading on this video is beautiful. Awesome job, guys!
which tripods did you use or recommend for the g7 x ?
