Useful to see a more practical walkthrough and comparison. Thank you. I have a C400 but wanted a C80 as a smaller rig option. I previously had a C70 so I am definitely familiar with that camera. Certainly some of the quirks on C80 can (and likely will) be fixed in Firmware, but good to see where it stands today. Side-by-side is very helpful, even to see differences are negligible in most cases. Glad you shot an actual sample shoot vs studio test - helps expose other potential workflow snags. Honestly for what I shoot, I appreciate the sharpness increase on the 6K FF sensor which is why the C80 excited me. And I can always punch-in if needed, something I could never do on the C70.
Awesome to hear from a C400 owner. I would absolutely be rocking that camera if I had currently different needs. I needed the form factor of the c80 otherwise I'd love the other benefits of a c400. Cheers!
@@dingdong5601 Exactly! Hoping for a software update. Not a huge deal breaker for me, but just a weird omission. Like why remove an already existing feature?
@@suitsinmotion I agree. Could be (hopefully) easily fixed with a firmware update. New model working out all the bugs I guess. I gotta say, I'm super happy with my two matching R5Cs.
@@suitsinmotion how does it match easy ? In clog2 ? Or raw ? What that process like ? How long does it take to get a hour video to match using the r5c and the c70 ?
Just a thought... When using the speed booster on the c70, the camera exposes 1 stop brighter than the ISO suggests, so you'd be at 6400 on the C70 while you'd be at 12800 on the C80. I still believe the C80 would be alot cleaner, but the difference may not be the game changer that makes you want to upgrade. The challenge with the speedbooster is the dreaded purple blob in some back lit situations. I use EF lenses only so i can use the speed booster on my C70, and also use the RF adapter with drop in filter so i can use a polariser with any lense. At current prices, the C70 is a bargain.
Thanks for your thoughts. The c70 would still be at 12800 in this example because then I match the exposure of the C80 and that's at 12800 or vice versa. Remember I already account for the stop difference between the C70 and C80 during the test. I did this through the lens. And let's assume we were able to expose it for 6400. 12800 on the C80 is still a lot better than 6400 on the C70. Does that make sense? The speedbooster doesn't give us more light than full frame, only giving us relatively the same field of view/light coming in as FF which the C80 is already. I have the speedbooster for C70 as well, but I stopped using it after switching to RF because RF lenses are way better to their EF counterparts. They just cost a lot, haha. And yeah that purple flare...not the worst but I did run into it quite a few times. I hope that clears things up a bit. Hard to cover everything in a comment. And absolutely the C70 is still a tremendous value and even more so with the price drop or used examples.
As an owner of both of these cameras I will say this the C80 and C70 can not be exposed the same and that’s the mistake a lot of people make I’ve found when I exposed the C80 to the right I found it to be a bit cleaner and if I shot in 12,800 iso even cleaner in low light situation but they both great cameras another mistake people make is thinking the C80 is not an upgrade to the C70 canon has stated this them selves I will say the C70 has better highlight roll off

@@alexpelevin8259 Yes! There is a notable difference. I agree - just did a side by side comparison over the course of a week in high contrast situations - live theater, three different jobs in three different locations - and the DGO sensor in the C70 (which I've owned and been using for 2 years) results in a nicer image, to my eye at least.
