My Japanese friend Tomoko taught me how to make traditional miso soup when we were in University in the aughties. She told me that mixing in the miso after removing the water from the heat protects the probiotic in the paste. Boiling water destroys the nutrition but leaves the flavour intact. Stopping the boil before mixing in the miso is therefore a critical step that you must remember to take.
This is the first time I've made tofu and enjoyed every bite. Thank you. ☺️ I'll definitely be making this again. I accidentally bought sesame sauce instead of dressing, but it was still really tasty on the kale. 😆
finaly a nice recipe for tofu!!! im now learning cooking Japanese, Chinese and Korean foods and im looking for recipes. And i think i found the channel that i was looking for. Thank you keep it up.
i was just scrolling thru your channel for some inspo on how to cook some tofu i bought and this is perfect! I have some kale in the fridge so i can perfectly recreate thos receipe! thank you as always :) i appreciate how straightforward and calming your videos/recipes are
Omg 😳 this is awesome! I have all the ingredients except the kewpie sesame dressing. However I have tahini and roasted sesame seeds, so I’m sure it won’t be hard making a dressing 🤔I will definitely be making this 🤤🤤🤤 レシピありがとうございます
I'm wondering how you sharpen your Yoshihiro petty knife. There is some kind of whetstone shown at the beginning of this video... do you have a reference to the product such as an Amazon link? Thanks!
Miso paste itself is always vegetarian 🙂 Some 'instant' miso soup packets aren't suitable for vegetarians because they contain bonito flakes (dried fish). If you buy pure miso paste (this looks like white - shiro - miso), you'll be fine! Hope that helps 😊
Fact - Only thing tofu lacks is fibre. Why do scientists find it weird? Soya is bad according to Americans. I love soya beans or grains. We used to have soya porridge with milk. Yummy.
The background music in itself is awesome jazz, but I think a less energetic jazz/slower tempo, or fast but less loud brass sounds would be a good vibe while watching someone cook. Think like a nice walk, not a flashy show. If that makes sense 😅. It kind of makes me antsy instead of relaxed and focused on you cooking, my attention is getting pulled by those musical runs. I love the jazz though! Keep up the jazz! And I love the videography and the cooking sounds. The end product looks amazing, and this may be our dinner!
This looks great! Such a shame the phytoestrogen in tofu is so maligned while the actual estrogen in dairy is ignored even though it's the one that increases hormonal cancer risks. Anyway, thank you so much for posting
I am not sure but maybe it does only on people who are not Asian. I am Chinese and we eat tofu. There were many centenarians in my family. Many people eat tofu in Japan too. The life expectancy is very high there.
@@gb4771thanks for pointing it out because folks want to find something wrong with everything we eat. I say eat as healthy as you can and enjoy your life sheesh. Great video too❤
@@carolinebennett5615we have not been eating dairy every single day in our lives, this is very new thing in the western countries and in asia dairy have been used much less. Nowadays the animals are bumped with antibiotics or other stuff as well
Tofu not being good due to phytoestrogens was debunked years ago. The problem being us silly westerners taking something good for us in high doses as a supplement. Low breast cancer in Japan can also see this debunked.
Oh wow, what gorgeous food, and so simple and healthy. Everything about that meal is something I crave. Thank you. But sadly I can’t subscribe because I have a cognitive disability that means my brain can’t cope with the sound of fast music playing in the background of videos where there’s other sounds. It’s especially bad when music is competing with human voice, but I love peaceful cooking videos where I can enjoy the sound of just cooking, chopping, sizzling etc. And worst of all, my least favourite music is jazz! 😂😂😂 It’s frantic, repetitive and discordant to my ears. I feel dizzy and nauseous. I watched the whole thing with the mute on, so it was a silent video for me, because I can’t subtract music from videos. Please would you consider making videos with no music? That way, music lovers can add their own music from another device, while the cooking video plays. Bless you and hope you get more subs in future - as I said, the food looks wonderful.❤
so glad I found this channel - looking forward to making this.
Thank you !

Excellent videography and mouth-watering food! +1 sub
Can i use vinegar instead of sake? This looks very delicious!!
Love your recipe thanks for sharing ❤🇺🇸
Wow oishi soo....
Thank you!
this looks amazing. I could only find manji mrin rick (kikkoman brand) can i substitute this for the sake in your recipe?
Yes mirin can substitute for sake but mirin has already sugar in it, I would recommend to reduce sugar by 1/2 tbsp in this recipe : ) thank you !
@@mymidnightjapaneserecipes6579 thank you!
Thankyou brother love this
What can i substitute for sake?
exquisite
In India we make rice in only just 10 minutes
Different rice😊
Yea i was also wondering why they're taking 40 min 😂...
Looks yummy 😋
Thank you!
Will try this reciped. Looks so delicious.(Had to turn off sound, sorry.)
is the sake can be substitute with other ingredient?
Omg 😳 this is awesome! I have all the ingredients except the kewpie sesame dressing. However I have tahini and roasted sesame seeds, so I’m sure it won’t be hard making a dressing 🤔I will definitely be making this 🤤🤤🤤 レシピありがとうございます

It was a gift from a friend so not sure where it’s from, but normal double sided stone with #1000 & #3000, and has been working great. Thank you !!
Love this - everything except the Kale (I can't eat that). Substitute with Horenso Gomai or similar.
That sounds like an even better choice : )
What is a good alternative of sake?
Probably mirin (you can find alcohol free versions if that is your reason for not using sake)
I love the background music, i hope i could know what is the title of the song and artists
Thank you for asking, it's called "Street-dreams" by Julian Hartwell. I love it too!
yummy
Big 💗 from sanja's fantasy kitchen
I would love to try to make it but i will fail for sure
Thank you! No this is super easy and I hope you like it 👍
Yummy 🇯🇵
What type of miso do you recommend?
Love this recipe a lot. it's easy and simple to make. But can we skip soya sauce? or add something else. Thank you so much for sharing😊🙏
can i use vinegar instead of sake?
what can we use instead of sake?
just love the vibs
Fantastic video. I turned off panic attack creating music, and really enjoyed it. Learned a lot about my favorite foods preparation ❤
is it okay if i don't use sake in this recipe?
if I didn't add sake would that affect the result as I just made it and it doesn't look the same :( it's like black.
Sake doesn’t only add flavor but also dilute the sauce so I would add sand part of water : )
If you don't have Sake for the sauce can you use Mirin?
you can, but it make it sweeter, so I would do less sugar to balance : )
Can I use Mirin instead of Sake?
I'm not sure about the greens. I never eat kale almost-raw like that, it would be bitter and kinda tough texture.
is tofu paneer which is in india
This looks so yummy but hahaha i caught ur typo can u tell me how to FLY that tofu again🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
If we don’t put the tofu in the pan ‘carefully’ then will it explode 😳🙄🫣
U can use the rice water for plants 🌵 it has nutrition 😢😂❤pls
FLY Tofu on medium heat, lol!
This miso paste is vegetarian? Could you please mention details

Muslim girls in India have white skin due to this soya porridge with milk (+sugar)
Tofu is paneer in India right?
I understand paneer is more cheese? Tofu is made from soy beans and water and is not being fermented : )
Paneer is made from milk/ dairy.
I still struggle with making tofu crispy
Make sure the tofu is as dry as possible. Coat with cornstarch.
I feel like a huge dummie! I tried the recipe and I think I made the sauce too watery. I even tried to add more sauce 🥺
oiishi
Less sugar could be better!😉

An interesting recipe but the music in the background is quite annoying 🙉
Ever consider that complaining about your opinions is annoying?
Annoying for some and very soothing to others, it's actually quite good jazz music.

Debbie Downer. People have been eating both tofu and dairy for a very long time. We’re fine.
