    Great video! How many coats of clear were needed to get this finish? I saw your other video with the XCR squeegee'd into pin holes, but here you don't show that and it seems literally 1 coat?
    And with your aluminium filled gel coat, do you use that because you found that the standard Unimould gel gives more pinholes with the Prepreg? Or some other reason?

    • @CarbonWorkshops
      @CarbonWorkshops  ปีที่แล้ว

      Only clear coat on this part because it came from the mould pin hole free.
      With the aluminium powder, this is added to increase the temperature the gel coat can withstand as uni mould can only go up to 90deg c.

  • @TheSulross
    @TheSulross ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Well, this was really cool - to see how to actually make such a part. However, questions for the curious remain:
    1) was this part chosen as an interesting tutorial example or was there any compelling reason to make this part out of carbon-fibre
    2) it's a pretty intense series of steps to go through (vs, say, 3D printing parts), so some back-ground on when and why to chose making parts out of carbon-fiber would be of interest
    3) what kind of conditions can carbon-fibre parts be subjected to - temperature range, what solvents might potentially weaken them, what kind of mechanical shock/stress can they be subjected to
    4) can the mold be re-used?
    Great video!

    • @rileyward4929
      @rileyward4929 ปีที่แล้ว

      1) probably just impact force so it doesnt break easily it is on an outdoor vehicle after all
      2) it is a lot of steps i agree
      3) conditions are mostly determined by the resin you use some take heat or uv better than others as well as the coats you do after if any
      4) short answer yes but depending on how you make the mold can determine its stiffness and longevity
