2024 Subaru BRZ tS First Drive

  • For 2024 Subaru has further refined the light weight sports car feel the BRZ has been known for. With bigger brakes, a revised suspension with new dampers, and stickier tires, this is easily the most fun the BRZ has ever been. It still doesn’t have a turbo, and tS is manual transmission only, but that’s all as it should be.

Ayyyy, someone finally commented on how high the redline is. Reviewers almost never mention it.
I would take a 7500 rpm redline, linear power, and better fuel economy every day over a tiny performance turbo with tons of lag, and a 1000 less revs.
This car more than enough power for steer/daily use. TS is a bad buy, but a regular limited and upgrade yourself, but otherwise a great vehicle. I love mine. Drift it every time I drive it.

I agree with everything except the comparison to Limited. The price difference between the Limited and TS is actually a discount if you were already planning on upgrading to a big brake kit.

@@jaron95 bro.. Mercedes charges 13000 for Carbon Ceramic brakes on its twin turbo v8 cars…
Who’s spending more than 7000 on brakes and struts? I can do both, get an exhaust, get tint, get a sexy shift knob, a dash cam, a radar detector and have $1-2k left over.
Where/how are you justifying 7000 more for this car?

@@sshah2545 United States dollars? I compared the BRZ Limited (MSRP $32.7k) and the BRZ TS (MSRP is $35.4k). I looked up a Brembo brake kit and the front rotors/calipers alone were $4k, let alone the rear. Are there cheaper alternatives? Yes. But we're talking about factory Brembos for less than aftermarket. That said, I still agree with everything else you posted. 2024 manual BRZ is definitely NOT slow by any means.
It runs 0-60 in 5.4 seconds and 1/4 mile at 13.9 seconds @101MPH those results are faster and better than a 2014 base Porsche Cayman manual which runs 0-60 in 5.7 seconds and 14 mile in 14.2 seconds @102MPH
It also way outperforms a base 2014 Porsche Cayman manual from 0 to 130 MPH the 20224 BRZ does it in 26.7 seconds while the base 2014 Porsche Cayman does the same deed in 31.7 seconds!
Anyone saying this car is slow is of their rocker, and I have a challenge for you……. I challenge you to find any other car for up to $38,000 brand new and stock that is a naturally aspirated engine car with manual transmission that is faster than this…. I bet you that you can’t name one!

Subaru has already stated they won't be doing an AWD BRZ. They actually considered it and the realized the car is better without it. Guys who want it all don't seem to understand that the only reason Subaru sells any BRZs at all is thanks to its affordable price. Of course they could have given it a turbo, awd, etc but then the price would be over $40k and literally no one would buy it. They understand the need to build a niche car like this to a specific price point that the average enthusiast can actually afford...and that means leaving some unnecessary features out.

I found this info from Car and Driver. "Subaru has released pricing for the 2024 BRZ lineup, which adds the performance-focused tS trim. It starts at $36,465, which makes it $2650 more than the Limited ($33,815) and $5150 more than the Premium base model ($31,315)." Furthermore, they note that the TS gets upgraded wheels, brakes AND dampers. $2650 premium over the Limited doesn't seem like a bad deal to me for upgraded/lighter wheels, bigger/more powerful brakes from Brembo and Hitachi dampers. I don't think you could do all that at an independent shop for that kind of money.
