    I’m so thankful I found your video today. I just bought a ball cactus at Lowe’s yesterday thinking it was so beautiful with its bright yellow flower. I feel silly now knowing it’s fake! And it breaks my heart for the plant. I removed the flower with minimal damage. Hopefully the nodes will heal soon. Thanks again from your newest subscriber! 🌵💜🪴

      I know it, those fake flowers drive me crazy 😏 It'll heal itself.. it just takes time for them to grow out of it. You would never be able to tell that mine had a fake flower blocking the entire growth up top lol. Now its growing a little baby on the side.. Never give up hope and always try your best 😊 Keep me posted, I'd love to hear some updates. Thanks for stopping in!

    I spent an hour prying a ton of hot glue off my cactus yesterday because some grower thought it's pretty to stick a straw flower right in the center. Why would they do that when they are supposed to be knowledgeable about plants? 🙄

    Very interesting video. I just picked a tiny cactus up @ Home Depot today. All it says on the cheap plastic pot is Notocactus. But according to the internet there’s so many varieties & I don’t know how to identify it. I live in AZ so it should be easy to grow it. I would just like to know how to identify it

    • @StaceyHerewegrowagain
      @StaceyHerewegrowagain  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      There are so many types of Notocactus varieties which can make that tough. I usually go online and just try to find the closest to what I have. I haven't found a plant identifier app yet. Most of all my notocactus get taken care of the same way. I water when my cacti looks a bit wrinkly. Could be 1x every 2 weeks could be 1x a month. It all depends on your climate. Sorry I couldn't help with the exact name.

      @@StaceyHerewegrowagain does the pot matter?

    • @StaceyHerewegrowagain
      @StaceyHerewegrowagain  ปีที่แล้ว

      I usually go with terracotta pots because our climate here in Florida is pretty humid and rainy. It helps to keep my succulents and cactus healthy especially ones that are prone to rot. It also helps to keep out excess moisture because the terracotta pots allow the roots to breathe a little better than the plastic ones do.. Hope that helps!

    I might be late but, The glue comes off with some rubbing alcohol(not too much) or heat up a needle and work the glue off a lil at a time. I grow cacti in upstate New Yuck, and sometimes buy the fake flower kind. 6 months in my greenhouse and 6 months in my basement during winter.Have a few hundred and waiting for a bunch to sprout over the next few weeks/months. I need Florida ;)

    • @StaceyHerewegrowagain
      @StaceyHerewegrowagain  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      All good here. Got most of it off when I did the video. The rest that was stuck on, if I keep pulling it, it's going to take a lot of the cactus skin with it and possibly cause damage. I usually leave the last little bit on until it grows out of it, which mine is just starting to do now. Thanks for the advice, I really appreciate your thoughts!

      If it was me, I would repot them seperately into a cactus and succulent based soil.. this way, you know what they're planted in. Just make sure the soil is completely dry before repotting..(for both, the soil your cactus is in and the new soiI your planting into).. This just ensures that no moisture gets into any open wounds you might have exposed while repotting them. Hope this helps. Lmk if you need anything, I'm always here to help in anyway I can.

    My 7years old daughter wanted a cactus and we found a small pot which had about 8 little mammillaria polythele in it. A few weeks after we got it, i changed the pot and it doubled in size. We were so happy. Then, all of a sudden, one by one, it's deflating, there no other word to describe it, from the bottom up. I used cactus soil mix. But i think i may have over watered them. I do keep the pot up on a window ledge, but it right above the radiator. I thought it took too much heat and needed more water.

    Hello! Is it necessary to pot a baby cactus in a small pot? I have an avg size pot but I'm scared bout it's rooting... My pot.is not very big it is small but compared to the cactus it is medium sized.

    • @StaceyHerewegrowagain
      @StaceyHerewegrowagain  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's recommended to use a small pot size, preferably one that just fits around the root system. If you need to shorten the pot, I usually place pumice or pebbles at the bottom, to lift it up a bit. Then I place my soil on top of the pumice. If cacti and succulents have too much room in their pots, it takes longer for the soil to dry out, possibly causing root rot if it stays wet for too long.

    • @StaceyHerewegrowagain
      @StaceyHerewegrowagain  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would recommend a really well draining soil made for succulent and cacti. I use the Black Gold potting mix and add a little extra perlite and pumice to it.

    Hi! I loved your video! I have a question about a cactus I recently got gifted from my dad. He bought it at Home Depot and it’s beautiful! But I’m concerned with it’s potting arrangement… theres a layer of rocks heavily glued on top of the soil. I’m not sure if this is “okay” for the cactus? If it isn’t, is there a way to remove it or repot it? Thank you!!❤️

    • @StaceyHerewegrowagain
      @StaceyHerewegrowagain  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I really don't like it when they glue the rocks on top. You should be able to pry the rocks off little by little, being careful not to break the pot if it's ceramic. I use a little spoon or my succulent growing kit, It has little shovels and tools that come in handy.

    • @StaceyHerewegrowagain
      @StaceyHerewegrowagain  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sometimes you can rub the edges of the pot with a qtip and some isopropyl alcohol to loosen the rocks a bit. Just don't overdue the alcohol because it can wet the soil too much and might cause damage to the roots.

      FYI, I'm not sure if I mentioned this.. After repotting my succulents, I always wait at least 2 to 3 days before watering them.. sometimes up to a week (depending on what they look like and how they're responding). This will allow time for the roots to heal this way, it doesn't cause root rot to set in. Keep me posted if you can🤞🌱 Remember I'm always here if you ever need anything along the way 💓 I know it can be difficult when your first starting out with succulents😉 It's all a learning process and gets easier the more you grow and experiment with them🌸🍃

    i believe i have Cephalocereus senilis cactus (amongst many, many others :D) but i’m not quite sure what has happened. I repotted into a slightly larger pot because the roots outgrew the previous but since then (around one/two months) it has bent half way up the cactus. at first i thought it had snapped but looking further, it seems to have just grown this way? is this normal for a cactus and if not how can i fix it?! i absolutely adore all of my cacti but this has never happened before and i’ll be devastated if it dies. any advice at all would be appreciated ):

    • @StaceyHerewegrowagain
      @StaceyHerewegrowagain  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It sounds like its searching for light. Succulents and cacti stretch and etiolate, when they are not getting enough sun.

    • @StaceyHerewegrowagain
      @StaceyHerewegrowagain  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Without seeing it, it's hard to say what's going on. That's what it sounds like to me though. Once they start to stretch or bend, they can't revert back to their normal size and shape.. unless they are cut and reset into the soil. I had to do this with my San Pedro a yr ago. It started growing a new offshoot from the top where I cut it and is getting quite big now. It was getting so tall that it snapped.. you can also stake them up with support if you don't want to cut it. It's totally your decision on what to do.. it's hard for me to tell ya because I can't see what it looks like.

      I use tap and mines doing great ;) you can also try bottle water.

    • @leilani1671

      Tap and bottle is okay but you should try using rain water or water from a natural source of water because tap and bottled water contain minerals and too much of that in the plant can build up in the soil Can cause deposits on the leafs and can also disrupt The flow of essential nutrients to the plant :)

      Tap water is great to use.. (Just remember everyone's tap water is different). I usually let my water sit out with the lid open for about 24-48 hrs before watering with it (when I can).. Doing so helps to release some of the chemicals harmful to your plants.. (this will not take out the salt from a water softner system though).. Sometimes I do water all of my outdoor plants with the hose, straight from my well with the softner. Over time, the salt from the water softner can hurt my plants so I only use it when I have to.

      You can also use bottled water or rain water.. I prefer rain water when it's available.. spring water is good too, if you don't have that many plants to water, but tap water is also good, if you have decent city water available to you.

    I can't believe they hot glue flowers on cactus! :( I thought it was bad that they glue rocks on. The few times I bought a plant like that, that is the 1st thing I do, remove the glued together rocks. I do put a loose layer of rocks and gravel on top, for decoration. When you do the pearlite on top, is that just for looks?

    • @StaceyHerewegrowagain
      @StaceyHerewegrowagain  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Right?. I don't know why they glue fake flowers onto cactus when they flower so pretty themselves lol. The perlite is for extra drainage, but mostly for decoration. I started using pumice on top instead of perlite because it blows everywhere in the wind and can get messy sometimes. I've also seen ppl use lava rock or just plain old pebbles on top of their soil.

    When you touch them to see if they need water how do you tell if it needs water or not?

    • @StaceyHerewegrowagain
      @StaceyHerewegrowagain  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It feels deflated.. not plumped up.. and you'll start to notice some wrinkling on the skins of the plant.. I'm doing a video within the next few weeks on how I water my cactus. Maybe that will help.. when in doubt don't water lol. Hold back another week. It won't hurt it😊(unless it goes without water for months and months) 😊

      You would probably have to turn it into compost first.. but yes, compost can be used as a topper to fertilize the soil 😊

    Let me tell you a little story about watering cacti in the wintrrI had a Pilosocereus until last year. During the winter it had not had any water for months and looked shriveled. 2.5 feet tall and I gave it 1/2 cup of water ... I looked at it the next day and it already had begun to rot ... the whole cacti eventually died. Over a half a cup of water. BTW ... the other cacti in my greenhouse that got the same amount of water did just fine. There are General Rules to growing cacti and there are Species Specific Rules ... LEARN WHAT YOUR CACTUS WANTS... and then provide that cactus with THAT care. There are no rules to C&S care that cover them all.

      Thanks for your input.. Everyone's watering schedule will be a little different depending where you live, the type of climate is exposed to, the type of pot its in, the type of soil is in, is it actively growing or not etc.. most cacti don't like to be watered much at all in the winter, especially when grown outside and exposed to severe temperature drops. Living here in Florida, we don't get a lot of cold weather so my plants don't really have a chance to go dormant much at all. I usually have to water a little bit differently than other climates opposite of mine. The only way to know what's really going to work, is to grow and experiment with different techniques for your type of climate and conditions. Our mistakes and patience is what makes us learn best😉

    is it okay to have a plastic pot?

    • @StaceyHerewegrowagain
      @StaceyHerewegrowagain  ปีที่แล้ว

      Of course. With a good draining soil and not too big of a pot, it should do just fine. I grow a lot of mine in plastic especially the really hardy cactus and succulents. The terracotta pota ensure my cactus and succulents dry out a little better and helps to keep my plants from being overwatered. It's ultimately up to you and what you feel comfortable with in your type of climate and growing conditions. Hope this helps! 🌱 I wish you the best of luck on your growing adventures.

    I picked up a cactus today but I’m not sure what species it is. It’s a cluster of balls that’s flowering. Could I contact you by email or another way?

    They actually put the fake flowers on there so it’s easier to replant them and pick them up without perking yourself and it’s non-harmful to the cactus
