I’ve just become a succulent dad and I’ve never been big into plant keeping but I was at Lowe’s and saw this poor baby succulent half dead (leafs were completely dead, soil was so dry just touching it made it fall apart, leafs were dropping). I irrationally bought it, bc I kinda felt connected to it. I replanted it yesterday, debrided the dying leaves and watered it. This morning it’s at turgent and full of life :)🌵
Awwww
Awww... you're sweet!😍
Tell me why this is so ME ahah. I have to stop myself sometimes or I would come home with all of them because my Home Depot doesn't take care of them AT ALL.
This is the cutest shit ever. I needed this today
I think you have tasted the cool aid of these plants and have a great adventure ahead of you as I am also just starting and can see the potential to collect just a few more.
Eee! I’m using this lockdown as an excuse to get more plants. I just ordered 36 succulent mystery box I’m super excited to meet my new friends. Who needs people when you have plants?? Not me!
gracyy face I bought pots with out the holes and I bought in ground soil not for pots so I’m not doing so well with my succulents already
I’m with you! I dragged my enormous old jade plant (and a couple of others I’ve had on my office windowsill for three years) home on March 16th, and I’ve become a total addict. I’m frantically cramming knowledge in my head just to keep Sid & Nancy, Ike & Tina, Barack & Michelle, Mark Cuban (the big jade plant) plus RuPaul and the 8 queens alive!
🤣😄🙈👻
Where do you get succulent mystery boxes? And are they generally expensive?
Sk8. Ninja same 😀❤️
Just bought my first succulents! I’m here to make sure they don’t die 😂
The hardest thing for me has been forcing myself to NOT buy certain succys that I know will likely not do well inside. Sigh.....
Phyllis Gardner same
Yeah... It's hard!
same....but it's all a learning experience?!
Full spectrum growlights are cheap. A solid set up should cost you in the neighborhood of $40 maybe $50 if you tack on tax and shipping. It's weaker then direct sunlight so you go work for 8 hours and it will be about half that in sunlight. We all know how expensive pretty pots can be so it's really not to big of expense. A 2ft grow light can cover easily take care of a few dozen succulent and hell get a 4ft and you'll be able to make a mini garden in your home lmao But your neighbors might think you're doing a little more then just succulent if you know what I mean 🤣 like mine
Am inlove with succys so far only one of them went off
I kill almost every succulent that I have owned due to overwatering. Gonna switch the soil & follow your tips moving forward. Thanks for the great video!
Good luck!!
Haha I underwater mine
Same here
For me the longest my succulents can go without water is usually 2 weeks and they are still fine, any more tho they may start to lose leaves. Id say watering every 1 or 2 weeks with drainage holes in the pot should be fine.
Hi. I live in Singapore. A hot and humid climate country. I followed your tips in adding pumice to cactus mix and it works wonder! I do not have any rot incident afterwards.
Awesome! So glad the tips helped! :)
Hi,i m from Singapore too...started to keep succulent 3mths ago n still suffering to understand them....
I bought two succulents to keep me company during the lockdown, and one of them turned out to be not as healthy to begin with, while i was driving from the store two leaves fell off, so by the third day at my home half of the leaves had fallen off. The worst thing is I felt strong emotional connection to my plants and cried throughout the day by just remembering about the poor plant (which I even named, Whizzer) sooo that's been... an experience.
Sorry to hear that! Depending on what's going on with them, you might still be able to save them. Take a look at this post for help:

I feel u. I cried too when one of my baby plants was dying away😢😭😞
Nastya Kolosok That's so sad 💔 I get very attached to my plants too
whizzed brown??👀

This really helped. I got succulents for Valentine's Day this year instead of roses because my husband wants me to actually keep a plant that he's got me alive LOL I've never had succulents before. I really needed this. Thanks!
My succulent is nearly dead due to lack of sunlight. That's why I'm here. Thank you for your tips!
I'm glad I could help! :) Good luck!
Get a grow light bulb. Less than $5 at Walmart
Just got my first succulent! Wish me luck
Thank you for the tip of adding perlite to Home Depot purchase of cactus / succulent mix … will be changing out my pots this beautiful Sunday … ❤️
You can use aquarium gravel mixed with succulent/cacti potting mix if you need too. Make sure you rinse off the aquarium gravel before putting it in the potting mix in case there is any residue on the gravel.
I learned that if you don't have sufficient light you can always use a grow light too!! Thanks for the tip!!🎉
Yes! I use grow lights for all of my indoor plants. It makes a huge difference!
I bought a rescue project from a supermarket, the poor dear was covered in spray paint! It's been a few months now, and it's thriving :)
So glad to hear a happy ending for that rescued succulent :)
@@Succulentsandsunshine all the leaves it has now are new growth from after I bought it!
that's great! :)
I've been using the wrong potting soil. Many die because of this. Also I don't have them in bright enough light. Thank you for sharing this information.
You're welcome! Good luck! :)
When I first started growing aloe I used regular potting soil and had the same issue it was killing them all from root rot but I got succulent soil and added quite a bit of perlite. I also add gravel on the bottom of my pot for better drainage and dont water them as frequently and now I'm a proud owner of happy lush alovera plants that are taking over all my space haha.
I'm new to this completely and this video was extremely helpful
New to succulents but so excited to learn. Thank you for this information.
You are very welcome!
I kinda wish I had known this when I bought a succulent in May last year. The person I bought it from told me to water from the bottom, and was very adamant about NEVER watering from the top, though she didn't give me a reason why. She also sold the succulent in regular potting soil, not anything grainy, and she never told me that I would need grainy soil, so when it got too big for the little pot it was in, I repotted it (without looking up a tutorial or anything, but that's on me) with regular garden soil. She also told me that I should only put a tiny bit of water into the dish I had the pot sitting in once every week. And then she told me that succulents take years to grow big enough that you would have to repot them (still haven't checked that) and the leaves should never die. Finally, the only guideline she gave me for water was to wait until the bottom leaves were getting wrinkly. She didn't even mention anything about soil during the 10 minutes she spent telling me how to care for them. She had a shop full of little succulents and other plants, so for this long I never bothered looking up anything else. I just assumed that she knew what she was doing. It's been doing really bad over the past several months. The leaves are all flat or dried up, the stem thing has grown more than an inch and all the leaves on there fell off so it kinda looks like a succulent tree, and I can't tell whether I underwatered it or overwatered it. I'm gonna order some gritty soil and start watering it the right way, and maybe get a lamp for it because I don't think it's getting enough sun sitting by the brightest window in my house. Now I just need to figure out how to repot it from regular soil into gritty soil. *facepalm*
Oh no! Wish you the best of luck you've totally got this. As far as repotting goes this post can help.

I only get direct sunlight in the very early morning because my room faces north. But if you don’t place them directly into the shade and you leave your curtains open, they should (mostly) be fine.
Wow, I've come so far from when I first saw this video. It was information overload at the time. I've now run out of space on my window sill from all the propagations lol
So glad i have found this channel, your website, and fb group. Helps a lot before i got mine and now that i have mine it helps a lot.
So glad the information has been helpful for you🙂
I live in the Phoenix metro and solar screens really lower electric bills AND light coming into my windows. Zz plants and snake plants are my go-to houseplants. Thankfully there are dozens of snake plants to choose from!
I think that's why these succulents die from over watering! It's the soil we use! The way you explained it makes sense as I look at the damp soil under my succulent that hasn't dried out yet. Great tip! Thank you!
You are very welcome! Glad that it was helpful for you and your succulents :)
I bought a succulent months ago and I placed it in a cute small bowl without a drainage hole because Ill be putting it on my desk. I read a lot of articles from websites to learn how to take care of it that's why I water them with limited amount only on Sunday mornings. I think my succulent is fine because it just gets enough water. But when I watched this video, I learned that succulents stretches when they didn't get enough sunlight, which is happening to my succulent right now. I'll try to open my window more for the sunlight to go in. Thank you for the tip!
We're glad the video helped! 🙂
Finally my succulents are starting to grow healthier. Your video actually saved me from killing my succulents ❤️ thank you so much
So glad the videos have been helpful! :)
Hi! Im a 12 yr old who just got a succulent- i actually never knew that succulents are suppose to be outdoors instead of indoors..im used to putting it right by my desk WITH NO SUNLIGHT. Now i know! AND TYSMM!
You are very welcome!
You are one of the best person on you tube describing the succulents plant care for the beginners... You didn't drag the conversation & talked in a very pleasent way... No need to skip the nonsense talk as happens sometimes with few such videos... 👌
Thank you! :)
Learning so much. Just bought the cactus soil. Need to buy perlite. Gotcha!!
I work at home depot in the garden section. I seem to be the only associate that cares about the indoor succulent display. I don’t know much about succulents, but I know that they need water too. Thanks for the vid! I’ll make share this channel with all my future costumers that buy a succulent. :3
I just got my second succulent and this video helped me a lot!
So glad it was helpful!
Hi I live in the UK,just bought succulents, and ,I'm just learning how to care for them, thank you 👍
You are very welcome 🙂
My neighbor gave me one and i don't want it to die because of the lack of knowledge with this. I want to save it and this helped me a lot! Thanks!!
So glad it was helpful! :)
I made I knee jerk decision at home depot yesterday and bought this adorable bowl full of succulents. Ive always loved them, but didn't think there would be so much going into this. I hope I can keep them alive!! 😳
I did the same at Lowes. I am trying to keep them alive but I have already lost 2 plants 🪴 😕 Watching videos & trying to learn
I just bought my two little girls and now I'm here :)
New succulent mom 😪 Ahhh so excited 😁
Yay! So excited for you!
Thank you so much. Enjoying these informative videos.
I’m new to succulents and I have acquired 13!😅 I will be buying perlite and rocks for the top! Thank you!!
I didn’t know that you can mix pumice into the soil for better results. I’m a new succulent mom and I’m obsessed already. Wish me luch
We here in indonesia usually use pumice as mix with black sands
Didn’t realize my cactus mix needed extra perlite! Thanks 😃
I know I'm late, but my biggest struggle was succulent streching... My echeveria streched in winter from very low light, I panicked at first, but then decided to buy a grow lamp. Also I am going to pluck the bottom leaves of that echeveria and propagate them, cut the top rossete and put it in another pot and keep the stem, so that way I get a good use of every part of that plant and it will look nicer than it before. I recommend everyone to try that if your succulent stretched :)
Good luck with your Echeveria! I hope you're able to propagate them :)
2 words...grow light
I just moved in my first own apartment and I'm so pumped to finally buy succulents. They are so cute and awesome and my favorite kind of plant :))
That's exciting! There are some great succulents that grow well indoors!
Check out the Sedum Bordeauxhart, Sedum Dasyphyllum 'Major' and Echeveria prolifica......one of the fastest growing of all!
I've been doing this for a year (thanks to you) and still enjoy viewing/reading about the basics. Not only is this a good reminder but I also enjoy seeing the plants/arrangements for ideas.
Thank you for the feedback! Glad you have enjoyed it🙂
vERY GOOD VIDEO I do love succulents and plan to grow them with the good help from this video.
I also killed so many succulent. Now i have some more, i hope i can take care them properly. Thanks for your tips.
I got my first succulent today and this video really helped
Right now, my biggest challenge growing succulents indoors is keeping my puppy from knocking them over! :) In the past, it's been difficult to find the right location in my home because the sunlight changes from season to season.
I am glad I found this video. I made succulent planters to give to family at my mother's memorial mass and luncheon. I have enough time to replace and replant. I wanted to use mugs and glasses as planters.... what a mistake. Thank goodness I have time to rectify this so the poor plants do not die. Thanks fo r the tips. I may even reconsider using succulents since maintain ace is tricky.
Glad I could help! If you do want to use mugs or glasses, you can drill holes in the bottom with a diamond tipped drill bit.
You can also leave them in a nursery pot and set that down inside the mug too.

living in WI where it “might” be sunny from 8am-3pm 🤣🤣🤣 keep my new succulent in your thoughts 🤞🏻

I just GOT my Succulents today from the Northern part of the Philippines.I hope to get into it.
I grow almost all of my Succulents inside and this was a good reminder. It is hard to keep your succulents in top condition inside so it is constant work. I have over 300 so I am at it every day. Thank you for the reminders on almost aspects of growing
Succulents.
Thank you, fingers crossed 🤞 😊
In my recent first attemp to make a terrarium, I repot my succulents in a pot without drainage holes. The moist cactus mix soil started to make one of them looking ''dizzy''. I took them out to the balcony, and sun made his job right. Now they look great and alive, but i water them once a month just in case, haha... :D
Yes , Thank You !
That was a lot of great info, thank you!
Oh my goodness! This is what I needed to hear a month ago before I killed several succulents. Looking forward to learning more! Thanks so much.
You are very welcome! Glad it has helped 🙂
This year I used grow lights and watered less and my succulents have survived indoors during the winter this year. I need to get the gritty mix.
Succulent Care 101. You’re a great teacher. Clear, concise, and uncomplicated.
Thank you! Glad the videos have helped :)
Great tips! I needed this information!👍💗😃
I nearly killed my 50 year old sansevieria because of over watering. You were a great help for my other plants, I have a 2 types of jade and they are spreading!
I've been keeping succulents for a year. Apart from this one rot incident, I've never had any problem with repotting and propagation. It's amazing how they withstand. The only thing I struggle with is...sometimes I had to keep my plants away from me so as to not feel compelled to water them too often...
I just bought a succulent today excited to see how it turns out
That's fantastic!
We've got some great tips for beginner succulent growers here:
succulentsandsunshine.com/yt-beginners
Good luck!
I've been killing my succulents, and i've been using the "sandy cactus/succulent" potting mix from lowes. Now I know that I need to change it, or add pumus to the mix, thank you!! :)
❤Great info, thanks!
Just got a little one for indoors. Didn’t know it was stretched out and going to do my best to bring it back to top health 💪🏼
Im a proud mum of these today!! Good luck to me 🤩
This is the clearest information I have found on watering succulents. I am new to growing succulents and I found this much more helpful than the standard “only water when the soil is dry” Thank you
Thanks! Now I may be able to save my plants by knowing which to set outside and which I can enjoy indoors
Thank you for your video 🥰
Good tip on the soil. . I’m going to try it! Thanks!
As soon as the sun comes out I take my babies out for morning sunshine then let them stay in the warmth ,I’ve changed my soil to cactus mix now 😊
Very informative, pleasant video, educational! thank u!!
I’ve done well with cacti. I’ve gotten my first succulent today, wish me luck!
Very clear and informative.
I bought a nice smol cactus two weeks ago and i really dont want it to die :'( , I watered yesterday after two weeks because l dont know when it was watered before I bought it. Your videos are amazing, thank you :)
Two weeks might have been not a problem. You should touch the dirt and make sure it's dry and not moist on your finger. For watering, they do like it. Depending what kind, think of the first of the month. That's when I water mine. It just rained here for a week, and all my cacti outside got soaked. They have very well drained soil though, that's the key. I shelters some... But the water isn't what I worried about. The more important thing is that they get airflow, and as much sun as possible. :-)
REALLY less often! Like a MONTH or three! They already have enough water. That’s why the leaves are fat.🌸
i didn't know they need these much light before, thanks!
This is very reassuring that I'm currently on the right track! I'll be avoiding the spray bottle as much as I can now.
Very useful, thank you.
You're very welcome!
Thank you for the concise info! Your wonderfully explanatory, clean, non-distracting video is so helpful. Not exactly new to succulents but still very much in learning mode. Excited to check out your other videos and see what more I can learn. Always a student, never a teacher 😕
Thank you, I learn so much! Great tips
I definitely feel more confident about keeping my succulents healthy! Thanks for the tips!
Just retired due to heart problems. Needed to find some gardening that I could do. Always loved succulents so here goes. Thanks.
Good luck! :)
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE VIDEO. DIDN'T KNOW SOME GROW BETTER INSIDE.
I live in south Louisiana and my succulents didn't do well outside in the full humidity. Brought them inside with a grow light and my babies are thriving.
There’s a “quick draining” soil on the market now which my Gollum loves.
My biggest issue is lighting 😭. I think I’ll have to invest in a light. I hope you introduced those someplace. 😊

I was given a basket of succulents for Mother's Day and I don't know how to care for them. Thank you for the information; now I feel better about caring for them.
You are so welcome!
My mom has two succulents growing together in a plastic pot with no drainage holes, and both are still going strong lol. Guess it might be due to us living in a dry place and her not overwatering them, but these things can be really tough to kill sometimes lol.
Very helpful, thanx!
I have been using a self made mix of organic cactus/succulent mix, small pine bark and perlite for repotting my succulents and it's been working quite well. I always use a water meter to check moisture content as the upper layer can be very deceiving in reading the overall water level of the soil. Give your indoor succulents as much southern light as possible and turn them often.
My friend had given me a succulent as her birthday gift for me, I hope I can take care of it pretty well 🙏🙏🙏💞
This is the best tutorial of succulents I’ve seen! Thank you
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it! :)
Thank you for sharing this great tip
“Water deeply” but less often. Thank you for that tips! I just bought a couple of them. Your tips were super helpful and easy to understand 👍🏽☺️
Glad it was helpful!
REALLY less often! Like a MONTH or three! They already have enough water. That’s why the leaves are fat.🌸

I know the feeling 😆
Love this.
Thanks for the tip on soil! Having already bought the cactus mix from Lowe's I was concerned about making it more succulent friendly. I look forward to mixing what i have left with Perlite and than trying the mix from Bonsai Jack!
