    Thank you for the great video. I had a hemorrhagic stroke two years ago and even though the sequence is to get function back goes from proximal to distal that is not always the case. My fingers ( hand) function come back way before my shoulder or elbow. Keep up the great work .

      I suffered a hemorrhagic stroke on 12/30/2020. I am still recovering. My hands and wrists for the most part were not affected but getting my elbow, arm and shoulder to come back has been a lot more challenging. It is great to see that people leaving comments have recovered in due time. ❤

    Dear Dr.Bob & Dr.Brad first I am sorry for my English may not excellent because I'm self studying ,,,, second I don't know how to thank you, for me I had a vertigo and you helped me with exercises only on week and I am 100% fine , You are the best ,And now with your stroke videos I am starting helping my Uncle and if you want me to keep updates for his situation improvement performance step by step I'll send it to you, because it may help you to know how much time for patients to heal .
    on the other hand I have a question is the motivation speaking while exercises helps ?how much you gave for it by percent % ?
    also there is a story of my neighbor had bad stroke more than his half body can't move , And now he is totally fine 100% with less than one month , I don't want to share his story here before you read it to see if its can help other people or not because some way its crazy and the other way it focused on motivation , if you are interest in that email me at adham.it.alobadi@gmail.com

    My brother had a series of strokes, right side affected. His arm is weak and the shoulder blade on that side appears to be moving outward and upward. He is in pain. Please can you show exercises to help him with this? Thank you, I really appreciate your videos.

    Hi Bob and Brad,
    My dad, 73 yrs, suffered a haemorrhagic stroke 3 months back. His left side is paralysed.. additionally there is a subluxation in his left shoulder, arm and wrist. His left wrist gets swollen time to time and is becoming stiffer. He has been given physiotherapy from past 3 months with no appreciable difference. Can you kindly help?

    Stroke wrists and hands, are usually flexed and have tone/resistance................... maybe you could touch on that? Why that is? How much should you work against this? when (time line) can you expect to begin active-assisted exercise with the patient? Thanks guys

      For stroke and other neurological issues doing ex’s in diagonal pattern / PNF involving other muscles in process ( strong one helps the week one ) very helpful...
      - ex’s both extremity together other good things to do ; unaffected side help the stroke side also improve sensation
      - stretching ....with stroke : add- Int. rot. Elbow flex, pronates, wrist / hand flex .it gets thighs that way so what we need to do position/ stretch / strengthen the X direction;
      = opening the hand extend wrist and supinate ( turn it out ) the forearm while extending elbow and abducting and flexing Shoulder ( modified D2 pattern in PNF)
      = open your hand lift your wrist turn your palm up and kiss your hand / or touch your nose / forehead
      .....( I hope it will help )
      = put your stroke hand to good knee with help of strong hand than without help pull to move up ( progress to outer side of stroke leg which is harder to do )....,

    Hey Mr Bob Schrupp and Brad Heineck, here it's my inquiry, the mild resistance exercise in shoulder extension requires patient to pull back their hands, would it cause the shoulder subluxation to them?

    What exercises are there for an increased tone on abduction of the shoulder, on flexion of the elbow and for increased tone on supination of the forearm? Whilst there is no active movement and reduced sensation too?
    Many thanks.

      I agree somewhat! I had brain surgery years ago (removal of a hemangioma of the brain stem). I was left severely disabled. If I did not work hard at P/T to overcome my pain (mind, body & spirit), I would not be here today thriving, WALKING and enjoying life! I do believe in no pain, no gain.
