I don't really understand the Skyler hate really, sure she might seem annoying or petty or even bitchy at time, but I think if anyone else was in that situation, *knowing* your partner is lying, and them constantly doubling down on the lie instead of admitting it, they'd be pretty pissed too - especially since he's such a different person compared to the start of the show (and before that). I think she acts in a very believable way, and if she just went along with absolutely everything he did, believed every lie, she'd be a very unintelligant character and completely unrealistic. I think most of the reason a good chunk of the audience doesn't like her is because she's getting in the way of our protagonist whilst we're trying to root for him, she's knocking him back down.
All of this. Part of what makes Breaking Bad so goddamn wonderful is that ALL of the characters are flawed in some way. ALL of them. Skylar's reactions are to my mind and as you say....very realistic and understandable. Walt's lying to her. She knows it even if she doesn't have hard proof, in large part because he's a terrible liar even as he's behaving sketchily. I can completely understand being annoyed at her sometimes but I GET her.
Embrace these episodes. It’s when everything was relaxed. Because you’re gonna regret it later on and miss these relaxing episodes haha

I think Skyler is a lot smarter than you think. She probably already figured out the fugue state was was not real.

I don't think you give Skyler enough credit. She KNOWS that fugue state was fake. She KNOWS Walt is lying to her about something huge. She's not dealing with in a healthy or responsible way and endangering her unborn child - there's no excuse for that- but her perspective, anger and frustration is totally understandable, imo.

Hank was having a PTSD episode in the elevator, the sound design was amazing. The " ding " of the elevator chime reminded him of Tio's bell going off after the exchange with Tuco. The firefight with Tuco and nearly losing his life in it has changed Hank, and caused him emotional and mental stress. He tries to hide it from everyone however and maintain his rough and tumble demeanor infront of his peers.
Not only the ding but also during the panic attack you can hear the sound of Jesse's car.

Skylar definitely annoyed me when I was watching too. On a second watch, she’s more understandable. First time watching, you’re just really on Walt’s side and supporting his crazy decisions
nah, I was never on Walts side from the start, I'm older than him and I just thought he was a complete a-hole

And in the end of the day, Walt is the dangerous criminal putting her through hell. Skyler did not deserve all that hate.

Walt and Marie lay so much crap on Skyler and in the end one the day she's the one who comes across as annoying. Honestly, she's the real victim here and the one we should be most sympathetic to.

i love your reactions but the skyler talk always makes me nervous. just keep in mind she has very valid reasons to be where she is emotionally and her actions absolutely pale in comparison to what Walt is doing. Obviously she shouldn't have smoked, but she knows that, stopped it, and feels awful about it. As far as how she's treating Walt, she is 100% in the right. She knows he's lying to her
Skyler is a piece of garbage.. not wife material at all.. Marie on the other hand has supported her husband in every way possible
I wouldn't let Skyler off the hook for smoking while pregnant that easily but she doesn't deserve all the hate she gets. The majority of her behaviour and actions are entirely understandable. It's sad that many people seem to forget about the smoking and that it's that thing she does later that honestly doesn't have ANY innocent victims that really makes them hate her.

This episode really does make you feel for Hank in the aftermath of that shootout with Tuco
Skyler knows Walt is lying. That's where she is coming from
When I first started watching this show, Hank rubbed me the wrong way a little. Something about his intro into the show made me think he was a douchebag, not necessarily a bad guy just a douche. This episode spun me right around on that, they do a great job of showing his fight with stress and PTSD. My grandfather was a Vietnam vet, and if he thought he was alone he would occasionally seem to be having some kind of episode but he buried that shit hard around my grandmother and mom. Weirdly, as much as it seemed to have changed him, the only lively conversation he ever had with us was about the war, almost like he missed it.

Like all the other well written characters, Skyler is a complicated character. There are already reasons to be on her side, or against her. Smoking can cause cerebral palsy in unborn children. Since Walt Jr. has cerebral palsy, we know at the very least chances run high for the baby. Question: Did Skyler ever smoke when pregnant with Walt Jr.?
"He's doing it for his family". Even if this was 100% true (and in reality Walt has other motivations as well), how much "bad" are you willing to accept from Walt in the name of helping his family? What sort of actions will tip the scales and make it not worth it anymore?

@@ItsAPrimatee Every character in this show gives so much layered depth to fan conversation - even after each episode. Rewatching the series adds to those layers because of new found call-forwards, callbacks, foreshadowing, references, etc. INCREDIBLE SHOW.

Hank is definitely one of the best characters in the show, and his character is written so brilliantly.

Haha Skylar, the thing I like about this shows annoying characters is that they are realistic. The cell phone lie grew like a cancer in Skylars mind, which means everything walt does becomes suspicious. She married a Square, & now she is not getting Square like behavior & her spidey intuition is tingling.

Walt's family and his treatment is entirely taken care of between Hank, Gretchen and Elliott. And yes Walt is living on borrowed time but instead of spending the last remaining time he has left with his family he is choosing to lie to them and spend his time cooking meth because he is too arrogant to accept help from others.
But Skylar is bad because she is upset with Walt for lying and stress smoked a few cigarettes that she feels really bad about? She hasn't done anything close to as bad as Walt
Look at it from her perspective. She is pregnant with a baby they didn't plan, her son has cerabal palsy, her husband the sole breadwinner of the family is diagnosed with cancer. Then He starts to disappear randomly, has a second cell phone and is lying to her about all of it. Think about how much stress she is under

I mean I kinow they couldnt go this route for the sake of the show... but Jesse NEEDS much less money than Walt to live. No cancer, no family to support ... sell a few ounces a week and he's golden.

The actress received huge amounts of hate mail during the show. I've even seen her break down crying while discussing it in an interview. It was really bad.

Both Skylar and her sister are pretty uptight. So is Walter for that matter. And with Walt Jr. being the stereotypical teen who can be prone to bratty "teenage things", that leaves Hank as probably the most laid back one in the family, *and* he's a DEA agent lol. But as we see, he's beginning to deal with some PTSD issues from his interaction with Tuco. Something I suffer from, and that shit is no joke. So I mos def feel for Hank

Skyular is just simply unlikeable. It's understandable that she has her frustrations, her stress and her skepticisms and cynicisms about Walt's behavior. But she deals with it in an unlikeable, undiplomatic, unreasonable and arrogant way. Is she as morally compromised as Walt? No, but she's unlikeable by how she treats the people in her family.
I disagree. Skyler only becomes "unlikeable" because most viewers are rooting for Walt, when in fact, he's the one who's most wrong in here.

Man... out of all the tv shows and characters I've seen... Skylar just might be the one I hate the most. Well... no, Connor from 'Angel' is worse, but she takes a close second.
The worst thing about Skyler is that she is justified on how she feels. As you say, she’s on 2 fronts. She is so annoying and keeps digging but you understand why at the same time. Really blurs the lines between entitlement and selfishness.
I started GoT after talking to some kid at work about how much I hated Skylar. He said she was the 2nd most hated character on tv at the time, but GoT had no.1 (joffrey) I thought "dang how is that even possible" and had to find out. Love it
The show is a little cheesy but you should rly watch ASOUE, I started it a few days ago and I binged the whole thing. The story is so interesting and it is a very good mystery. It has peices of children TV but at the same time feels like an adult show. Very interesting and think you should take a watch.
