- If you already deliver for Skip the Dishes then you know that yes, you have to pay $20 for a background check with Skip the Dishes, but the question is, is Skip the Dishes worth paying for? Is it worth it to pay for the background check with Skip the Dishes? The answer is different for everyone but if you are a new Skip the Dishes driver or a new gig worker looking to see if it's worth it. In this video, I give you my opinion.

Great video, Ash! Based on what you've said, I would think it's worth it, but it isn't viable in my market. No one uses GrubHub (American Skip the Dishes) where I deliver. I do wish UberEats was more viable, I'd use it sometimes. I do believe they should furnish the bags, they could consider it free advertising lol hope you're having a good one!!
Yeah it's pretty costly for the bags. I could have bought just off Amazon but the "verify your bags" process didn't work from my end so I gave up and gave in. Maybe one will pick up one day for you lol

In the big smoke, the Skip the Dishes minimum in 2023 was $3.50. So, for some reason, they have in higher minimums in Montreal?
In my location it's always been $8 and I am in the suburbs so i don't get why. It's just always been that way here but I know other locations it's way different.
I don't see myself paying them to contract for them.. to me that's like paying an annual fee to have your credit card. I know these exist but if you have the option not to do so why would you? Also, there's so many gig apps these days that don't charge you why go with one that does. I don't know but it just doesn't make sense to me. That's all.
I can fully understand that and I value that answer. I did it since I am limited here but if I had different free options , I would go for any other for sure that's why I maximized all my gig apps. I'm not for paying either , I think it's a load of BS
Signed up and paid for backround check over 3 months ago. No email no response no update. In my area they are in a lawsuit. Not sure what's going on. Wish I could get approved it's the final app for me to complete the trifecta!! ANYONE WHO CAN HELP, PLEASE REPLY!
Have you considered contacting them for a update ? I know it's a struggle with them because they accept all background checks even if the person doesn't have placement
They let me use my Doordash background check so i d8dnt have to pay. I have an 80% AR with Skip and my minimum I think is $6
I asked them about that and they told me I had to go through this way. I would have preferred that method
Average Skip order is $50, so they take 25% cut from restaurants which is $12.50 & charge transit pay & Tips to customer for delivery. Guess what if skip would pay that 50% cut of restaurant ($6.25) then it would be worth it.
Let’s some smart couriers gather & invest our own company which solves that.
I think the words "worth it" can be different for many based on markets because for some , it is but I understand what you mean.

Yeah, I've noticed it's different per market. I have no idea why my market is $8, if anything I would figure it would be less.
@@DashWithAshinCanada The really sad part is that the 6 dollar minimum is twice as much as Uber is offering with their consistent 3 dollar offers for two pick ups lol
you working under the assumption that DD and Uber still give you a bag upon hire? they don't provide free replacement bags and I've been with them 5 years. I found this very funny. Oddly enough I did get a coupon to use on the DD store to buy a new bag around my birthday. woop IEEEE!

This isnt abnormal. I worked at a hospital and i had to pay for a police check for that job too
This isn't a job though , we don't even have an interview process and all the other companies make it free like Uber or DoorDash. There's no direct contract signed or nothing. Here where I am I have never heard of people paying for background checks.

When i first applied with skip in jan 2018, they dont even require background checks, you just have to pay $79 for the bags(pizza and catering bag). I have over 12k deliveries with skip in 6 years. Its the #1 food app in edmonton.
It's funny how before it was $79 for those bags and when I signed up it was $20 for the background check + $60 for the bags which comes out to the same thing lol they will always find a way

Ive ben doing skip for a while 😊idk ....when i got to thr port of entry thy Frown upon this Because , as a College student , we are only allowed to do it for so many hours to be pr its kinda like duk duk goose And it doesn't count as a real job😢 wamp wamp
Yeah it's definitely made more for a side hustle or part time job and I think more and more people are noticing that
Its not worth it anymore. Gas price, maintenance cost, tire prices, general labour is gone double in last 6 years. I did skip 6 years ago & $7 & 8 was worth it per order when the prices were in controled. It’s not worth it at all!! Spend your time learning new skills or working real job. Skip is just not worth it when you add up all costs. I just met a student who would even take order less than $5 sometimes just to keep his acceptance rate, so people who are new to skip they’ll always do orders even they don’t pay anything because they are new. If they would knew that same order could have made than double if they were do it 6 years ago, they would never do skip again.
Otherthing is there are more drivers now than it used to be, so skip knows the trick to make more money while they always have new drivers joining. Job market is getting down everyday in Canada (Index reports) & economy is worse in last 25 years, more people will be unemployed & finding courier or contract jobs which eventually companies will take advantage of.
I would agree that working a 9-5 job (Or any hour shift work really) would pay more and be more beneficial compared to doing food delivery services. I don't encourage anyone to quit their jobs and do this type of work because it's simply not working the way it used to with the amount of drivers we have around today.

Thank you very much, Ash. I am a newcomer in Canada, and I am planning to work as a delivery driver as I can do. I am doing school so I can't find a flexible hours job. This job is going to be challenging to me until I find a job suitable.

My buddies kid works for skip the dish. He literally opens the bag eats with his fingers and staples the bag back up. He told me the only meal he eats and had to pay for is breakfast the rest is on the people that order food. So here is my suggestion, if you find groceries to expensive then apply for a job at you know where.
Your buddies kid is the exact reason why I never order off these apps. Never know who is working for them.
