Sialolithiasis / Salivary Stones - Pathogenesis, Clinical features & Treatment

- Sialolithiasis are calcified structures that are formed within salivary glands or its ducts. The exact mechanism of a sialolith is unclear but researches done up to date suggests that they may arise from a nidus or debris retained within the ductal lumen making its lumen partially blocked. This nidus provides a really good environment for the deposition of salivary minerals giving rise to a sialolith.

Which doctor should be visited for this condition. I have similar issue. Stones are constantly forming.when I roll my tongue and apply pressure. These stones come out but then form again. It’s been a week now. What should be done? Which doctor should I see? Your help is appreciated. Thank you for the info.

@@DentalManiaK you are welcome ma'am, and thanks for your videos
Thank you its such great video, its very informative how to deal with syalolithiasis.
What do u think about treatments with Ultrasound therapy in parotitis gl ?
What does it mean by “dependent position” of submandibular salivary gland?
Hi maham, by dependent position of the gland it simply means it’s dependent position relative to the ductal orifice. The submandibular gland lies at a lower position than it’s ductal orifice.
DentalManiaK alright, thankyou so much!
Can you also share the name of the book used as reference?
Maham T , my pleasure:)
Reference is Neville oral and maxillofacial pathology.
