    Good tip shimming up the compression of the sealing o-ring.
    For me it was just nice to see that part of the shock to see how it is assembled, since I don't have a sand scorcher YET 🤣👍

    Until now, I thought that the only way I stop these shocks from leaking was take out the oil. Thanks, man. Very handy dandy.

    Great tip! For my SRB Shocks i've used TRF Mini Shocks spares and used Green Slime. They don't leak anymore, but the real issue is not about the shocks lifting oil, it's about the whole suspension system.

    I think the original white shim that need to compress the red O ring never really compresses the red O ring because it stays in contact with the black plastic nut. sometimes when two flat surfaces meet, they kind of suck together with the oil. Anyways, that is what mine does when i inspected it. I think your fix works, because it frees up the white shim to do its actual job.

    • @ShenRC
      @ShenRC  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes It compresses the O ring a bit more making it seal a bit better and it works like a charm. Thanks for watching.

    Thanx for this tip Shen, I'll remember this when I assemble my and Scorcher after Xmas!
    So either the o ring is just a little too small, the shock tube is too big inside, or the washers are not quite big enough to squash it the right amount.
    Come on Tamiya, 🤦‍ you sell several different packs of o rings and call them miscellaneous fitting, you've had since 1980 to get this right! 😜 LoL! Tamiya My guess is that red ones are rubber and black ones are neoprene. Some aftermarket ones say they are slightly thicker. Well, I'll have to find out how I get on with the kit ones first.

    Thanks for this interesting fix. I’m a bit puzzled because I can't recall my shock absorber o-ring was red. My 1980 SS has a black o-ring as I remember from when I first assembled the car in 1980. Also the screw on top of the absorber aluminium tube is not black but brass I think and a diff shape...

    good stuff, might be possible to do with dollar store sticky back foam sheeting could compress the O-ring as it gets compressed itself against the shaft to make a secondary wiper/seal. depends on if the foam sheet will compress enough for it all to fit when closed up.
    last night and this morning got some new posted, one is of the classic old BoKart.

    How will this keep it from leaking? The bottom white piece is free moving on that shaft? There is exactly the same pressure on that o ring with or without that plastic washer u made, if it had a nut to keep them all together yeah I could see that but not on this set up...

    • @ShenRC
      @ShenRC  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi I show how the shock works and a washer will make the O ring compress more and help stop leaking shocks ... the white plastic washer rests in a lip inside shock body and when you screw the shock bottom on it compresses the parts together in the shock body.
