Easy fix for zoom creep: get a rubber wrist band and place it around where the zoom ring meets the base of the lens. The band provides enough friction to keep the front glass from sliding in most cases
I pulled the plastic piece out of my efs17-85 and it works great without any adapter with my 5D3. The mirror doesn't touch the rear element when fully zoomed out. Can you put the moded efs17-55 directly to your 5D2 without touching the mirror when fully zoomed out?

So, im getting into buying a good lens , what lens sould i go for whit the eos m - the Canon 17-55mm F2.8 IS or the sigma art 35mm - 1* im planning on shooting indoor mostly (buying lights too) and try out stopmotion and filming unreal engine 5 backdrop / blender made stuff "homemade" too . 2* sould i go whit a 4k cam then? is there anything chespish used whit 4k for this popurse? i know the bm 4k but thats like 1k euro used would that be better whit a cheap lens than the eos m or 5d ii whit a 500 euro lens? 3** indoor is prob mostly lower light ( im gonna buy used, i have a eos m that i got for 130$ whit the M 18-55 kitlens or sould i buy a 5d ii (better lowlight?) i can get one for like 300$ " but then it changes up the lenses right? ) 4* like my budget would be like 500 ish euro used for a lens that can do everything. or maby 2 lens for 700 euro ish. 5* im gonna start learning the cam whit cheap lenses like the helios 44 and artizan 7 and the M 18-55 kit lens 6* im buying motorized Micro 2 Plus too later on whit a motorrized head maby many thanks for the videos and tuts!!
I have had the Pocket 4K before and now the 6K. The Pocket 4k is very good. As for the lens of choice of rthe Eos m and TH-cam, I'd suggest the Sigma 16mm F1.4 over the big bulky 35mm F1.4 Art. There is also TTArtisans 17mm F1.4 for EOS M mount.
Awesome Insight, thanks Zeek! I thought about doing the same to my efs 17-55mm, but heard about the risk of the glass of the lens and the speed booster touching, when fully zoomed out.. so I am a little concerned about breaking things. Can you confirm that those are not touching? Super stoked if this is actually working, I already had abandoned the idea. :)
@@ZeekEOSZ Cool, thanks for the fast reply! Then I am going to invest in a speedbooster. Did you notice any significant sharpness/abberation/contrast/color differences between the viltrox or the metabones speedboosters?
@@hinnerk_ha I've compared the two in my other videos. In the centre they're both great. On the corners, the Metabones is better. The Metabones also works with more EF lenses with less issues.
I have a Viltrox, the back element touched and scratched the viltrox. The glass element in Viltrox is moveable by turning it, so experiment with that to avoid damage.
How can you put a APSC lens on a APSC sensor and get same focal length but one stop brighter aperture ? Doesn’t make any sense. If you use a TC, you’d lose aperture and you get it back from the Speedbooster. Same if you have a crop factor in video.

Good choice! I used the Canon 18-135mm to shoot the lens B-Roll in this video with the BMPCC and also used the lens in the outdoor shot of me with the Sony ZV-E10 and Canon Adapter.
@@ZeekEOSZ Is the ZV-E10 with the Canon Adapter any good? Before I found the EOS M and your channel, that was actually my mid-budget dream camera, lol. I'm still thinking about adding a more modern camera body to my gear bag, one that is easier to use for those situations where I don't have time to set up the EOS M and ML properly... right now I was thinking M50 or ZV-E10... what would you suggest?
@@TheCruisinCrew I'm going to make a video comparing the Zv-e10 with the M50. The M50 is a nice humble camera, takes beautiful photos and video. My choice would be the ZV-E10. I'm not sure of your needs, but the Sony is better overall imo. I use a Viltrox Canon Adapter which isn't good for AF. I stick to native glass for YT stuff. The 18-135 is a nice pair for video shooting other stuff without the need for AF.
@@ZeekEOSZ Yeah, I think you're right about the Sony besting the M50... the only other consideration would be my budget... I could get a used M50 for almost half of the Sony and all my EOS M lenses and adapters would work already. However, I'm really looking forward to your video comparing the 2... :)
It was explained in the video. You meet to shoot video in the crop modes. On the M, that's any mode other than 1080 mode. With the M50, in 1080 digital IS Enhanced will need to be used. For photos, you will get vignette unless you crop in post or use a 1.4x Teleconverter.
Im wondering... does a speedbooster make sense on a EOS R7 for 4k60 crop video mode? I mean for full frame glass anyway, but with EF-S lenses and speedbooster? The problem, the uncropped 4k60 is more or less unusable, barely sharper than 1080p recording and only the crop mode is sharp and nice enough.
@@jujub5557 The 17-55 specifically? Yeah at 17mm the lens goes pretty much to the mount position it could be possible at least. Im thinking more about other lenses too for example 24-105 F4 (which can probably even outperform with speedbooster the 17-55 2.8) or just for my Sigma 150-600 if i want the „real“ 150-600mm instead of the 240-960mm.

Sigma art 18-35 f1.8 zoom - is an amasing sharp contrasty (DC apsc) zoom lens but unfortunatelly it cannot be paired with a speedbooster (as it's ment for apsc sensors) and also it has no IS. also havier.. Summing up - the Canon 17-55 is much wider after speedboosting as well as it has more zoom range, it has better focus, and quite similar light capture (f stop) - after speedboosting (1.8 vs 2.0speedboosted) .. so I assume you are very satisfied with this exchange ? :D cheers and thanks for this review! amasing as always!
You can pair the Sigma 18-35mm F1.8 with a speedbooster th-cam.com/video/XEBlgaMpIxI/w-d-xo.html If you use video crop modes, it's fine. Optically the sigma is sharper, but I just prefer using the Canon 17-55mm, especially with the IS that helps so much for hand-held run & gun.
@@ZeekEOSZ thanks for the info, - for me IS stabilisation for video is no 1. feature (i was actually often more important than f-stop) this canon lens is approx 250 usd in my country
@@ZeekEOSZ Thank you so much, I almost bout the M3, and seeing you make a comparison about dynamic range had me thinking but I'm definitely gonna get the eos M.
I have managed to remove the plastic cap. But after mounting the lens onto Viltrox EF-EOS M2 0.71x speedbooster, I have realized two significant downsides. First, the lens cannot be zoomed out lower than aproximately 30mm because the inner glass from the lens protrudes and hits the glass of the speedboster. Second, the vignetting is severe and cannot be avoided even while being zoomed in all the way to 55mm. However, using the "ordinary" Viltrox EF-EOS M adapter (without the glass elements) solves the issue. Of course, the lens will not be 17-55mm any more due to the crop sensor, but rather 27-88mm, which I find even more useful for photography. For videos, given that shooting at higher framerates and higher resolution crops the picture even more, this may be too narrow.
Hi Zeek and community, I'm looking to use a couple of lenses I have with Sony-E mount on my Canon EOS M but I couldn't find any adapter. I'm missing something? does Sony E compatible lenses have another name? Thank you
It depends what resolution. Anything 2.3K and below is generally continuous RAW. Max is 2.8K RAW @2.35:1, but not continuous. 5K FRTP is actual an upscaled mode, not true 5K resolution, but less moire/aliasing.
I have the 10-18 which I've made a video about already with the Speedbooster. 17-55 is a very nice focal range, but for pure gimbal work, those wide lenses with IS come in handy! 🎥🏆
but when you pull the zoom back in after taking that plastic piece out, doesn't the glass protrude past the lens body? other videos say it does and to not use this lens on speed boosters because the glas in the lens can contact the speedbooster. th-cam.com/video/PdqBnlA3Djg/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=JulianKrakow. @1:48

Looking at the back it seems possible. But being a prime lens, I'd doubt it.
Thanks @@ZeekEOSZ Thought so too.
Shouldn't it say 5k frtp instead of 4k frtp?
Your sister got very comfortable infront of the camera though! She really is a sweetheart in this video.
Watch out, she steals your show, Zeek :P
😆🍻
Well, it is 5K FRTP if you shoot 2.35:1, but with 16:9 it upscales to 3840x2160 so 4K.
agree... so sweet to uplift the visual!
@@ZeekEOSZ Ahh I get it. Thanks for the reply. :)
Easy fix for zoom creep: get a rubber wrist band and place it around where the zoom ring meets the base of the lens. The band provides enough friction to keep the front glass from sliding in most cases
I will give it a go, cheers!
Doesn't work well for this lens because of the location and thickness of the zoom and focus rings
Is it compatible to veltrox mount adapter EF-EOS M using my canon m50 mark 2?
How would this work for the Sigma 17-50? Would I need to get the EFS to EF adapter instead?
I think it's just plug and play from what I've heard.
I pulled the plastic piece out of my efs17-85 and it works great without any adapter with my 5D3. The mirror doesn't touch the rear element when fully zoomed out.
Can you put the moded efs17-55 directly to your 5D2 without touching the mirror when fully zoomed out?
No, it will stop at about 18/19mm
@@ZeekEOSZ What do you mean "stop at about 18/19mm"?
Will the rear element touch the mirror at about 18/19mm?
Yep, can't zoom out wide to 17mm
Is there any vignette/ fish eye distortions when taking photos with the speed booster & the modded 17-55mm ??
On M50 with the viltron and canon 17-55 EF-S lens has vignette or black ring around the edge of the picture. How did you eliminate the vignette after removing the plastic ring from the lens?
So, im getting into buying a good lens , what lens sould i go for whit the eos m - the Canon 17-55mm F2.8 IS or the sigma art 35mm -
1* im planning on shooting indoor mostly (buying lights too) and try out stopmotion and filming unreal engine 5 backdrop / blender made stuff "homemade" too .
2* sould i go whit a 4k cam then? is there anything chespish used whit 4k for this popurse? i know the bm 4k but thats like 1k euro used would that be better whit a cheap lens than the eos m or 5d ii whit a 500 euro lens?
3** indoor is prob mostly lower light ( im gonna buy used, i have a eos m that i got for 130$ whit the M 18-55 kitlens or sould i buy a 5d ii (better lowlight?) i can get one for like 300$ " but then it changes up the lenses right? )
4* like my budget would be like 500 ish euro used for a lens that can do everything. or maby 2 lens for 700 euro ish.
5* im gonna start learning the cam whit cheap lenses like the helios 44 and artizan 7 and the M 18-55 kit lens
6* im buying motorized Micro 2 Plus too later on whit a motorrized head maby
many thanks for the videos and tuts!!
What the heck this is such a hidden gem, in 2x crop it’s 24-78mm f2 that’s crazy
STABILIZED TOO
Yep! 🎥🔥
No issues here, they don't touch 😎👍
@@ZeekEOSZ Cool, thanks for the fast reply! Then I am going to invest in a speedbooster. Did you notice any significant sharpness/abberation/contrast/color differences between the viltrox or the metabones speedboosters?
@@hinnerk_ha I've compared the two in my other videos. In the centre they're both great. On the corners, the Metabones is better. The Metabones also works with more EF lenses with less issues.
@@ZeekEOSZ Thanks, Ill revisit the Videos you mentioned. You are running an awesome channel!
Been waiting for this review. Although to be fair I am very happy with my sigma 17-55 which is a bit cheaper. Great review though. And beautiful images
If I ever come across them, would definitely test and compare them! Sold my Sigma 18-35mm for this lens, and also very pleased.
On the sigma 17-55, does it pop out the same or do you have to get the EFS to EF change out?
@@carspottin_kj it just works as is. no popping out needed
@@rolyoliver nice. That's good to know. I might buy this adapter. I have the other one without the glass and it works wonders with the Sigma 17-50 2.8 and the EFS 18-135. I have gotten used to the 1.6 crop factor though so now I would have to adjust to the way I take pics
Hey zeek I think I want to buy this lens for my EF 0.71x Speedbooster. I bought a STM 18-135 before but I could not get the plastic ring out. But now you told me about this lens and I think I am going for this one. Do you think that with this lens the plastic ring would 100% pop out?
100%. Don't know if the VIltrox Speedbooster will work with this lens, I will have to do a quick test.

Which speed booster have you tried with this? Been having trouble with viltrox lately
Metabones and Viltrox. Both are working great 👍
Which setting in ML do you use for taking stills
I just use the normal Neutral profile for exposure/reference. Raw photo is seperate from raw video, but you can use magic lantern to help exposure like waveform, false colour etc..
@@ZeekEOSZ Do you shoot them within the movie mode though or switch to camera mode, some ML profiles in movie mode are glitchy when taking stills, cheers
@@MorphOrchid Yeah I use this profile also for video reference. I haven't experienced any glitch with photos at all. You could always use a seperate SD, but the glitch you mention could be from ML menu tab 3 under customised buttons, where you may need to fix half press shutter.

Only EOS M original. M50 I only use 4K.
Very nice.

Использовал подобную технологию ещё год назад для использования объектива 18-55 на полнокадровом 6D2
Хорошая работа!
I bought the lens but it gives me so much vignette, is there a way to reduce or remove it
It was explained in the video. You meet to shoot video in the crop modes. On the M, that's any mode other than 1080 mode. With the M50, in 1080 digital IS Enhanced will need to be used. For photos, you will get vignette unless you crop in post or use a 1.4x Teleconverter.
Zooming sound?
How is the focus trow on this lens? Is it long enough for good manual focus?
Not long enough, but decent
Soooo, you just pop that plastic piece out to adapt it to the viltrox? Is this how most canon EFS lenses are?
Unfortunately not all. The 18-55 Ef-s and 55-250 can't. You need a separate mount conversion.
No the glass will collide with a RF booster
@@jujub5557 The 17-55 specifically? Yeah at 17mm the lens goes pretty much to the mount position it could be possible at least.
Im thinking more about other lenses too for example 24-105 F4 (which can probably even outperform with speedbooster the 17-55 2.8) or just for my Sigma 150-600 if i want the „real“ 150-600mm instead of the 240-960mm.
Speedbooster is for full frame lens, for apsc lens like this one, speedbooster wont do much
Can any APS-S lens be modded like this? Planning to buy second-hand
Sigma 4.5mm F2.8 EX DC HSM Fisheye
Tokina 11-16 / 2.8 SD IF DX AT-X Pro
Canon EF-S 17-55mm F2.8 IS USM or Sigma
Sigma 50-150 mm 2.8 APO DC HSM
If any of these lenses cannot be adjusted to the Viltrox Speed Booster 0.71x, what lenses should you choose in their place?
Not any.
You can pair the Sigma 18-35mm F1.8 with a speedbooster th-cam.com/video/XEBlgaMpIxI/w-d-xo.html
If you use video crop modes, it's fine. Optically the sigma is sharper, but I just prefer using the Canon 17-55mm, especially with the IS that helps so much for hand-held run & gun.

@@ZeekEOSZ Yes, I've been watching you all this time making a beast out of that camera, much respect.
I think it’s worth the weight
Sure! Doesn't feel heavy at all though 💪
Thank you
No unfortunately
👊
Does the Canon Eos M have unlimited recording time limit and does it shoot internal 4k

Quick question do you have to refocus when you zoom? I have got the older Sigma 18-50 f2.8-4.5 and you cant zoom in without refocusing
With the Metabones speedbooster I use, it's pretty much parfocal. But with the basic Adapter, I have to refocus, but not my much.
@@ZeekEOSZ Thank you for the answer. I use the Viltrox speedbooster and with the old Sigma 18-50 f2.8-4.5 at least from one end to the other I have to refocus really a lot!
