    This is a Motormouth Couple Car Review of the all-new 2021 Kia K5 mid-size sedan. The K5 is a 5-passenger sedan with a 1.6L turbo 4-cylinder engine and an 8 speed automatic transmission with 180 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of Torque. AWD is standard in Canada but FWD options in the US. The Kia K5 sedan is the replacement to the Kia Optima, this new name is the Global name for this Korean car in other parts of the world. The K5 is also a shared platform with the Hyundai Sonata sedan. The K5 is available as a GT trim with a powerful turbo 2.5l 4-cylinder engine featuring 290hp but that car is only available with FWD, which is a very strange packaging choice for Kia. The K5 has a capable 1.6L turbo that does performa well when the car is in the mid-rev range. Mid-size sedan sales have been falling and companies like Kia have been adding more content to keep buyers interested like standard AWD, a turbocharged engine and an interior that puts some premium brands to shame. The infotainment screen is a standard 8-inch unit or the optional 10.25-inch unit found in this test car. The upside to a sedan is plenty of rear legroom, a big trunk and a ride that is much more comfortable on longer trips.

    Very good review, as usual. I bought a new K5 GT LINE with premium package in passion red 2 weeks ago. I really like it. Plenty of power, comfortable, drives well, and is a great freeway cruiser. Good looking in and out, and I have already had 4 people come up to me when getting gas telling me I have a great looking car!

    Getting a KIA K5 GT Line AWD in sapphire blue tomorrow! Very excited. I test drove the 2WD version today and they're getting the AWD for me from another dealer. I think it will be worth it at any time of year. Reviews have said the torque from the turbo causes wheel spin very easily in this car without AWD.

    great review again! This Kia looks fantastic, but I have to admit as someone with s SUV and truck, going back to a sedan with trunk would be tough. Hockey gear, or skiis, snowboards, trips to home depot etc. I do think its a missed opportunity to not make it a hatch like big brother Stinger - definitely increases cargo space.

    It was so great to hear Kia brought it with AWD STANDARD for Canada (at a reasonable cost .. although I think few are buying it for the MSRP now) .. makes you understand how Kia/Hyundai really do try to get their customized research for the different regions. BTW there was a TH-cam of the AWD WRX and FWD Elantra N .. and the FWD did much better (mostly a better platform showing a better "engineering package").

  • @benjaminsmith2287
    @benjaminsmith2287 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I like the Sonata's interior better. It's just cleaner, more modern, sleeker. The K5 is nice, but I think the Sonata is nicer. The Sonata's exterior makes more of a statement either, love it or hate it. And I don't understand the appeal of the flat-bottom steering wheel. What's the point? The K5 is a nice car but I liked the original Optima best. It was the most unique. The Stinger looks like a sleek version of the original Optima.

  • @magellanmax
    @magellanmax 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The fact that someone says that the Koreen brands have very serious reliability issues is common knowledge to those who actually follow the car scene.
      I eat, sleep and love everything that has to do with 4 wheels...

One thing most people can’t argue with the Korean cars is that they back them up 10 years standard warranty. Honda won’t do that. Look guys, It is incorrect to compare this car with BMW manufacturer. First and foremost because the main competitor in this class will be a BMW 5 series that has the start price in the base trim over 63 grand, meanwhile Kia K5 base trim has around 30 grand. That means you will get 2 Kias instead of the one BMW. My point is that this car absolutely worth its money.

But people always want to feel like they are "getting away" with some other car that's cheaper or more stylish (hence the research & watching your channel), or like J-walking or flirting with somebody who is not their S-O or cheating taxes. Hell, even the new Elantra has more rear legroom and it's basically made by the same company in a supposedly smaller segment. How does that make sense?

    Love that it has a traditional shifter, but that has to be the WORST design possible in contrast compared to the rest of the interior. They looked like they took it out of a 2006 Nissan Frontier and plunked it into this futuristic car. I don't understand the decision at all. It actually aggravates me so much that if I purchased this (I wouldn't, not an auto car guy) I would definitely install a 3rd party more modern shifter.
