@Munshat Rahman I thought about that before commenting this, so to rephrase my comment he does not advocate for them enough, especially since he does own two.
He made a video where he drove a Yugo once, and yet he indeed still gives to reasonably fast cars a 1 in acceleration. Pretty ridiculous, and it ruins the purpose and relevance of his whole "Doug score" thing.
In this dougscore system, any car with more than 5 sec 0-60 gets a 1 lol. Even most 2000s supercars would get 1 or 2 in acceleration. The entirety of the score is divided between 0-60 in 2-4 seconds.. I wish Doug would have individual score systems for the various segments he reviews. In that sense, all supercars/performance cars would be rated from one type of scoring, and SUVs would get their own separate scoring system, etc. Would make a lot more sense.
It’s an objective scale that ignores a car’s class, and intentionally so. 0-60 in >7 seconds is a 1, 6.5-7 is a 2, etc. This means a car with a 5 second 0-60 is not a one, but a five or a six.

Mathias Bacher - The Kia Soul has sold over 1 million units in the U.S alone. Nobody looks at that car and says it copied and mixed Audi, BMW & Mercedes styling. And what you refer to as copying and mixing is actually what all car designers follow and those are called trends. Notice how a lot of new cars all have the full light bars going across their trunks right now? It’s not called copying and mixing it’s called following the trend. Copying in the bad sense is what Lincoln did with their Continental (Bentley Flying Spur), Chrysler did with their 300 grill (Rolls) and what Ford did with their Explorer (Range Rover) as those looked like literal attempted knock-offs. Kia’s success is legit.
No..look at that infotainment, thrash design with those buttons up there, also the front is over stylized(idk how to say it). Mazda 6 looks far better inside out, or the new Peugeot 508
@@bhongtastic A lot of their early 2000's cars had design elements that looked straight up grafted from other brands. And also dont forget, designers move around from brand to brand. One of Kias designers did work for Mercedes and VW.
@@johnjacob688 Sure but the statement was about Kia's recent success being due to "copying and mixing" from German brands. Further, to say that hiring designers from German automakers is copying is nonsense. For example, it's like saying when Microsoft hires programmers away from Amazon or Google and those engineers use their know-how at Microsoft, that Microsoft is copying Amazon or Google. If Kia hired an Audi R8 designer and they put out an R8 clone, then sure you'd have an argument. But that's not the case here. I took issue with the claim that Kia's recent success is due to copying and mixing from Germans. Kia is successful because they've been better than their competition at running their business.
Love the car! Just test drove it- The PULL is to remove the wireless charging station- It actually comes out completely! Just incase you don't have a wireless charging phone you can use it for extra storage space. Thank you for the awesome review!
If they’re going to extend the rear glass that far, just make it a sportback like the Stinger. Would also help make the car more practical. Love the selectable fan speed for automatic climate control. Hopefully we’ll see other automakers adopt that feature.
Honestly, I hate the "coupe/hatchback" styling on sedans for one reason: It destroys your trunk opening. Good luck fitting any large luggage or other large items into that opening.
I get a lot of looks with my K5, I have the Pearl White with red interior package and really stands out from the crowd of this class of cars especially for the price point. When I pull up next to a Camry or Accord they look so basic now.
Until you realize that their other sedans use alphanumeric K names with the numbers getting bigger as the car gets bigger, like many other car companiesdo. Our market In Korea Rio K2 Forte K3 Optima K5 Cadenza K7 K900 K9
@Munshat Rahman - most of the SUVs have the same names, some use different names in different markets, but the K names are just for cars. I believe there is a K4, but it is specifically for the Chinese market. Some of their SUVs might have an alphanumeric designation KV#. I heard at one point the Australian market was wanting that a while back.
It costs a lot more to achieve the structure rigidity with the liftback sedan and if not done right makes it not as tight and rattle free. Plus it infringes on the Stinger.
@@marryellen7713 There's for sure a whole lot more SUVs on the road around me than typical cars, especially with the blurring of the lines with crossovers. But I guess it'll be different for everyone. I'm still surprised the F-150, and pick-ups in general, are the best selling vehicles in the U.S.
I don't get it though, if you're gonna design the rear to look like a hatchback, why not just make it a hatchback and make it significantly more practical at the same time?

Sedans are dead? Good joke lol I love SUVs but sedans definitely aren’t even remotely close to being “dead”
New car sedan sales are in the toilet. You probably saw sedans that were bought 10 years ago right ? Lol
@@joshua9073 it shows they still good. What about your plastic suv wich stuck in 5cm water aftet heavy raining?
@@joshua9073 Large sedans are dead (1% of the market) there is still healthy demand for small and medium cars which combined make for 25% of new car sales. Yes, CUVs are the craze right now, but such is the way of trends. Electrification will be a boon for the small and medium cars, where less weight just means more range
A TH-cam Channel with no name look at sedan sales compared to SUV/crossover sales over the past decade.
They're finally bringing these over to the us. Seen this series many years ago in Korea. The Kia's over there are super nice.

Lol I didn't get it either. Didn't he say in the video that it looked cool?
I end the video before the Doug score because it never makes any sense
The dougscore is relative to supercars/sportscars. Compared to a lamborghini this doesnt even get a 1, it makes total sense. The dougscore is very very very twisted in the direction of sports cars.
@@alexwise5459 I got you but he should just compared it to the same type of cars. If you say its cool it means its cool. I was at least expecting a 3 or a 4.
That makes sense. The 2013 Ford Fusion was a very handsome car, but it's all over the road now and nobody is gonna turn their head towards a Fusion, unlike a Mustang. The K5 will be like that in a few years once it starts to sell.
Just bought a K5 Gt Line today....omg this car is hot!! For the price tag it cant be beat. I paid 29k out the door.
The swooping turn signals actually remind of the other Kia logo, the stylized 'K' used in Korea.
They stopped using that stylized "K" many years ago in Korea. But I remember it too!

I feel like Doug is so against coupes and sedans. Personally, I'd never even consider an SUV or crossover!
Dustin I agree! If you want to blend in, then choose a crossover, but if you want a vehicle that’s a little more special, get a sedan or coupe
I was the same way and I'm still kinda the same but after owning a few crossovers I see the appeal for family use. If I want good design and semi luxurious feeling a sedan is the best bang for a buck
@Munshat Rahman I thought about that before commenting this, so to rephrase my comment he does not advocate for them enough, especially since he does own two.
@Munshat Rahman He just can't pronounce "coupe" properly.
Good man
Doug the type of guy to have coffee in this Kia while listening to the open air cafe during the quarantine.
"Acceleration: 1 out of 10"
Do slow cars get negative number scores for acceleration?
Doug's scale is so heavily weighted to super cars that anything with a 0-60 more than 6 seconds is like a 1 or 2.
@@damienhh288 At least it could reach 60mph... remember the BMW Isetta? ^^
It’s an objective scale that ignores a car’s class, and intentionally so. 0-60 in >7 seconds is a 1, 6.5-7 is a 2, etc. This means a car with a 5 second 0-60 is not a one, but a five or a six.

I bought a new GT line with premium package in May. Like it very much. 0 to 60 in around 7.5 seconds is not slow. Its not super fast either. But 0 to 50 comes quite fast. It's plenty fast for everyday situations. And loves to cruise at 80 all day
Since it's been on sale for few months here in Korea, I've already got to drive it once and see it everyday. It's pretty cool looking car and drives well.

How has KIA become one of my favorite car manufacturers?! They are doing everything right
Mathias Bacher - The Kia Soul has sold over 1 million units in the U.S alone.
@@bhongtastic You're not hearing me right. I'm not arguing with you. Just that people see and don't always know why.

"5" is pronunced "O" in Korean. So they took the initials of "Kia Optima"... K.O... K5.

@Munshat Rahman - most of the SUVs have the same names, some use different names in different markets, but the K names are just for cars.
