Fashion for me is basically the same as "create your character, dress your avatar type of games" a way to represent and express yourself outwardly and also inwardly since i do think the way you dress changes the way you think about yourself 🙄 makes sense ? No ? Aight ✋.
Hey man i know im late but i totally agree. Slavoj Zizek (mixed feelings on him) reckons that - the way you wear your mask says more about you then anything that might be underneath. You said it in a more wiser way but yous both saying the same thing, love it🔥
i think another aspect about fashion that could be mentioned is time (and culture/history). things like heirlooms, folk clothing, antiquated technology, even wedding rings-these are commemorative objects that, when paired with more "normal" clothing, can imbue an outfit with a sense of greater significance beyond the here and now, and it will create a highly personalized sensory experience for the wearer. i think playing with time includes both nods to a person's life history and to a person's ancestral history (or to world history more generally). in this way, the clothing as an object will hold a memory. not to be dramatic, but if this is expanded to the scale of a lifetime, the object will hold a life (the best comparison i can think of is like a horcrux...but not evil). even if the object isn't a personal heirloom but is more broadly "vintage," there is still a wonderful sense of playfulness evoked by combining clothing from different time periods and from all around the world. this play with time is what brings a historical outfit out of cosplay and costume, and it's the best approach i've found to actually wearing vintage fashion. what this process looks like in my life is this: i will wear a fast fashion shirt, a dress i purchased while visiting family in china, a pair of vintage shoes from the american southwest that i wore every single day when i held a specific job, and a gifted locket necklace. the outfit then, as a sensory experience, becomes everything that these objects represent (memories, people, places), and the novel combination facilitates the formation of a new memory. often, if i feel like an outfit is incomplete, it's because i'm missing any indication of who i am and where i came from. fundamentally, this is a timeless approach to fashion, which is what we're trying to aim for here, right? and it's also super unique! imo playing with time is the ultimate key to a highly individualized (and low cost) personal style.
Seriously 11/10 JQ, this is by far the best Fashion Elitist video that you’ve made in my opinion. I genuinely appreciate how much you go into detail about the philosophy and psychology into finding your personal taste instead of doing what every other influencer/TH-camr does by showcasing different aesthetics as if what they do helps people find how to express themselves, when in reality it’s teaching people to just put on a costume. Seriously great video
I love the way you look, found your page a couple of weeks ago and I am inspired. Keep up the great work, love the way you explain different fashion concepts. :D
Tim Dessaint is who originally had me interested in fashion, then I found out about Daniel Simmons (and didn't realize he was practically neighbors with Tim) and that REALLY got me interested. I still like some of Tim's fits but I LOVE Dan's look haha
You should includ a constant Shiba cam, that short bit was just not enough (if something as enough Shiba inu exists). Also good video, talking about the process behind style is always interesting.
"Fashion is the dominant style within a given culture at a certain time. Fashion has to do with new trends: It refers to popular ways of dressing during a specific era." - master class. I think this is easier to understand then continue to categorize fashion and style. Why do you make it more abstract?
Rent Owens on the comments 💖✨👌 Sincerely my ideas of fashion are a lot different maybe because I'm poor, living in a developing country and indigenous living in the city. Lots of DIY bc I can't afford anything nicer so I made things nicer myself. A critic: you're afraid of change so you don't play much with color AND TEXTURES.
When I wear black it has nothing, at all, to do with my emotions. I think it’s a nice palette in my wardrobe. And I’ll wear all black on my happiest of days!
Hey JQ, loved the video and I’m happy to say this is by far your best work in regard to the tube. I also just gotta ask for you how do you balance expanding your growth/wardrobe with new pieces while also making sure you stay fluid to yourself? I personally do it by crossing the piece with at least four other hypothetical outfits I could see myself in with the piece but I am curious to see how you do it considering you have quite the condensed closet and a firm style.
Also about people pushing fast fashion, the only company i see everywhere is hm, it might be because they're trying to better themselves, or it's just bullshit just so you don't feel bad about buying fast fashion. And wisdm in the reel said, that the quality and detailing is insane, which means that hm did some exclusive pieces that only wisdm would like (it leaned into his style) and the quality was there unlike most of hm products
It was sponsored promo he was paid to say that and even if he wasn't he still has to say good things since its promo, H&M has been consistently disproven to be going sustainable, and its all greenwashing for brand image. H&M uses very poor materials, labor, and constantly cut corners to make more money, there is a lot of up to date information that really shows H&M in a true light.
Copy, copy, copy your favorite style. This is advice given to new writers with the idea they will discover their own style of writing as time goes on. This advice is tricky bc you don’t want to encourage plagiarism but still think it’s solid advice.
I was gonna finish the video before commenting but my attention span is too short. I like to view fashion as an art form, i view it and appreciate it but I am not it, i don’t wear it. There are a lot of styles and outfits I find visually pleasing and identify with, but when wearing those outfits I feel mentally and physically uncomfortable. Whether that’s because of anxiety or sensory issues, or because I don’t want to to be perceived in the way that outfit presents me as I am unsure of. So I am struggling finding out what it is that I should wear, because there are “aesthetics” I love, but don’t like to wear, and there are “aesthetics” i don’t really like but feel most safe and comfortable in. I just think it’s weird that things i see myself in and want to be seen as make me uncomfortable to be perceived in, it’s strange. This isn’t really a comment on what you are saying just me dumping my thoughts here. Edit: we need more Shiba cam please Edit 2: what’s the difference between proportions and silhouettes?
Proportions are how the items create quadrants or divide the body. Silhouette is the outline or shape of clothing items. This also goes for ones body which can be reflected on how well items fit you!
What is fashion to you?
It's about swag
For me, it’s about swag
I'm really big on textures♡
Fashion to me is taking what inspires and impacts me, and how I feel on the inside and putting it all together to represent who I am

Increasing ur female subscriber ratio 👍
Also idk fashion is self realization, when a body is difficult to change fashion gives you control
im at 10% women now ill be at 11% we are bossing up. Fashion giving you control is a take I haven’t before, control in which way?
@@fashionelitist you can't control how your body looks (at least short term) but you can control how your clothes look
