Taken directly from the Ace Attorny's Wiki about John Marsh's name: His English name in the Gyakuten Kenji 2 fan translation patch is "John Marsh", with "Marsh" possibly being a reference to "Aizawa" (his Japanese surname), which literally translates as "fellow swamp". Considering that Ryōken Hōinbō's given name in the fan patch is "Sirhan" and Shimon's is "John", both may be references to Robert F. Kennedy, more specifically the man who assassinated him and his older brother, respectively. Alternatively, it could be a reference to John Marston, the main character of the video game Red Dead Redemption; Marshton is a cowboy, while Shimon Aizawa/John Marsh is a "cow boy".
Also of note from the wikia referring to his original Japanese name, Shimon Aizawa(honestly no idea how they got "John Marsh" from that in the fan-translation, but whatever): "Shimon" can mean "fingerprints", "inquiry/examination", or "tutelage", depending on the kanji used. The former two meanings may be a reference to how his blood ties to the real Di-Jun Huang went on to prove that the murdered Zheng Fa president was only a body double. The latter meaning could be a reference to being under Courtney's guardianship.
Is it at least common for the official translations to do this amount of logical leaping for names? I’m not that familiar with ace attorney, so can someone tell me if this arguably reasonable or just stupid?

I agree, the Sebastian redemption should have been the climax. It was my favorite part of the game to and solidified why this kid was my favorite character of the game.
When I was going through this game, my friends all expected me to absolutely adore Simon Keyes. By the end of the game... I hated his guts because he felt incredibly pointless as a villain. Far as I'm concerned, the game ends with Sebastian kicking his dad out.
@Firephantom105 Well as far as I can tell nobody liked the reveal of the masterminds identity and found the whole thing really dumb, so ending on the climax of an important character's arc probably would have been more satisfying.
@Firephantom105 why not just, rearrange the plot so that Sebastian's character resolution happens at the same time as the final reveal of the mastermind?
@Firephantom105 maybe make Blaise the mastermind? It's more predictable this way but it makes more sense, has actual setup and makes more thematic sense with the game's storyline.
really late but nope! in japanese she says 法の女神(hou no megami), literally meaning goddess of law. as for it being overly literal, cant say for certain but shes just as religious-y in the japanese version and now in the official translation its goddess of justice so they probably actually just meant goddess of law in the japanese

Also, Simon thought he was Dover’s son but he was actually Gustavia’s (hence the accent). Knightley was Dover’s son, and was the one who locked them in the car. It was Dover’s plot to do so however, not Gustavia’s. Dover planned to betray Gustavia in the cooking competition from case 3, and Gustavia killed him in a rage, in doing so, no one knew that their sons were trapped in a frozen car. Dogen from case 2 saved them and instead of looking for their parents, immediately took them to an orphanage.
@@tsucube4377 ah, well, that was because of a grudge born from an entirely separate series of events. You see, Dogen, despite being a wanted criminal, would visit Simon and Knightly at the orphanage and became a father figure to Simon. Around the same time, the president of Zheng Fa was in a secret relationship with Amy Marsh (Judge Courtney’s cousin), who worked at the orphanage, which resulted in the birth of John Marsh. President Huang planned to meet Amy and their son at the orphanage, however one of his body doubles learned of the meeting and hired Dogen to assassinate the president so that he could assume his identity. (Yes, the president Simon killed was an imposter) With the aid of Warden Roland (who, at the time, was the owner of the orphanage) and Blaise Debeste, the imposter was able to frame the assassination as a kidnapping and planned to kill Dogen, but Simon became aware of this and set a fire that allowed Dogen to escape. Years later when the three conspirators had still not faced consequences for the assassination, Simon set in motion a plan to have them all killed or arrested. After Roland was arrested for murdering Knightley, Simon targeted Blaise by setting him up to murder or be murdered by the girlfriend of the witness he had silenced in the assassination incident, to ensure Debeste would be caught, Simon got Edgeworth involved by setting up Kay to be framed for the murder. Simon drugged her and moved her to the top of the building in the hot air balloon to make it seem as though she had been inside the building at the time of the murder, but when he reached the top, the body double was already on the roof and fired his gun at the balloon, Simon responded by allowing the balloon to fall on the imposter killing him. He then hid the body in a freezer so that murder wouldn’t distract from Blaise’s and to throw off the time of death. Once Blaise was arrested, Simon dumped the body in the film lot to make it seem as though John Marsh had accidentally killed the president.

It's funny watching this after Lucahjins final episode, she reacted completely the opposite and loved the entire case. I don't think the game is a masterpiece but if you constantly make fun of it it's a lot easier to focus on the flaws and gloss over the emotional highs.
I learned a new fact about this series! It was originally supposed to be from Emma's POV but they changed it :( Edgeworth was more of a fan favorite. That's why it seems less like lawyering and more like... investigations. Also why Emma isn't helpful at all, *you* were supposed to be Emma doing all the science things.
I can picture Edgeworth actually being that exasperated with Simon's stupid "Even though it was obviously me. You can't arrest from dumb reason" attitude!

Since Miles is a Robot and Gumshoe is a Golem, I've been coming up with weird robot/inventor designs for almost all of the characters for fun. So far my favorite is Sebastian, who is basically robot made entirely out of volatile explosives. His head is a time bomb, and his hair is a cluster of wires and dynamite. It's great :P
The reason Dover and Gustavia’s kids lost their memories wasn’t cause it was cold. It was probably a case of dissociative amnesia due to the trauma of the situation.
I agree that Sebastian taking down Blaise should have been the climax. This is one of my favorite Ace Attorney games, but a lot of that is because Sebastian is my favorite Ace Attorney Character. Its tied with Trials And Tribulations for my favorite These videos can be funny, but also very meanspirited at times. I can't watch an entire video in one sitting if so much of it is just shitting on a game

Man this is convoluted even by AA standards.
For the record, I'm aware of all of this, there was just no good way to include it in the animated recap
Edgeworth:...WHAT!?
Simon: THAT'S MY BACKSTORY AND MY MOTIVE FOR ALL MY CRIMES!
Egeworth: I'M GOING TO STRANGLE YOU!
But why did he goomba stomp the president?

I have never laughed as hard as I did with the sequence at 12:58....holy shit, I am gonna miss this series!
This might actually be my favorite series on TH-cam in the past year. My smile never once dropped during all 27 minutes. You guys are the BEST!
honestly if you think about it, "you are the dumbest person i've ever met" has to be a BRUTAL insult from miles, given everyone else he's met in this game
11:46 That Trapped reference is one deep cut, Jello.
I'm slightly disappointed by how little attention that gag is getting, but it's probably deeply obscure at this point.
I had to scroll a ways into the comments just to see if anyone else had caught it, I genuinely wasn't sure if anybody else had played and remembered those games.
I’m so glad they stopped the final final final boss; Ray
I agree that Sebastian taking down Blaise should have been the climax. This is one of my favorite Ace Attorney games, but a lot of that is because Sebastian is my favorite Ace Attorney Character.
Its tied with Trials And Tribulations for my favorite
These videos can be funny, but also very meanspirited at times. I can't watch an entire video in one sitting if so much of it is just shitting on a game
I'm can't get over Will's chimp-man voice. I'm just imagining he's actually on air and people are hearing him yell "Oh no! Please Chimpey! Don't make me do it. Not again!"
This was a great series, my favourite parts were the jokes where you made up head cannons for the characters, like with this video and Penny's "ponk" joke. Good stuff.
This video came out a little more than a year ago, that’s 12 YEARS AGO.
