  • This 500 gallon custom in-wall plywood tank is one of the coolest large aquariums I've seen, and I really wanted to check it out again now that it's stocked with frontosa (blue zaire mikula). You may remember this tank from a video earlier this year when the stock was different. Here is that video if you missed it:

I'm most attracted to that particular AC. To me, they're the "Discus" of the AC family...MAJESTIC & REGAL. That Frontosa HABITAT is mind blowing! God love you, Corey, you sure know a lot of fascinating hobbyists.

They almost make that 500 look small! Absolute beasts! So cool

I remember the first video. Nice looking Frontosa's - they look small because the tank is so big. I am really thinking about doing a large plywood tank. Very cool !

Prime Time Aquatics plywood tanks are well worth the effort since you can customize to exactly what you want without the astronomical price of a customized commercial aquarium.

Fantastic looking Frontosa Cichlids you have.
We remember seeing your previous video when you had the Haps n' Mbuna in that aquarium and we really agree that your aquarium looked great then and, it looks great today.
Well done Scott and all the best.
Thankyou for sharing this inspiring video with us.

Those are sweet! It took my Burundi Frontosa I raised up from fry almost 5 years to start breeding. Once they started though they began to breed routinely. I've been told that lots of live food can trigger them to begin spawning? They are mysterious fish in many regards.

some fish are just really slow breeders that's why conservation is so imprortant u know Arowanas are a really slow breeder as well, tons of different fish are, but not many ppl realize that and think there is just endless supply that's why so many natural fish popualtions are decimated and are having to have ristrictions put on it, if ppl would follow the rules more rules wouldn't need to be set in place

When I had challenges breeding established fish groups, what worked for me, was increasing or decreasing tank temperature. Anywhere from 3 to 4 degrees all at once. Great tank and good with the foai.

I have Zaire Moba, Kitumba, Kapampa, Mikula (new ones) and some in Multi groups and they go through some crazy dry spells for long periods and sometimes I do not even know they bred until I see a couple babies show up! Right now my Blue Nangu, Kigoma are breeding really good. My Burundi actually have stopped and not sure why but maybe need a new young male to take over the group? My Samazi bred again and my Maswa have a couple fry in their tank. My Ikolas are on a dry spell also but a bit aged. Altogether I have upwards of a thousands Frontosa. May favorite. Planning on Diving with them next year in Africa.

The alpha male may be genetically programmed to regulate breeding according to his perception of food, space or other resource scarcity. Since the group has been recently re-housed to this tank, maybe the programming is to wait out a certain amount of time to see how conditions stay before allowing a population increase. I know next to nothing about fish keeping but that sort of thing can be seen in the animal world generally.

Love your fish. And your tank . Do you have your own channel? I think your problem is the ratio i think you should have 2 males rest females but that's my opinion it worked for me. And artificial crab meat and no lights. Would love to see updated

I don't know if this is the camera but why so much blue? does not give credit to the fish at all and its colors.... got to have some contrast. Blue on blue looks bad.

You could put the alpha male in a 90 gallon tank for a couple of months and see when you put him back he will breed or leave them alone maybe is the new tank
