yes i agree, i have a 75gal Mubma African Cichlids and a 140gal American Cichlids tanks,,,, and the American Cichlids are so much more peaceful living together,,, much more peaceful to look at.....keep up the great work C. BROS.👍🏾
I'm mostly into planted tanks so I keep mostly dwarf cichilds. I really like the South American cichlid tank and I see why it's #1 on your list but the shellys tank is my favorite hands down. I love this tank! Liked
Great video, I could do with your opinion on my Jewel Rio 350 tank, I really want serums, keyholes, chocolate, hounduran, geophagus senior and possibly even a Oscar, could this work at all?, if not what should I miss out?, what sort of numbers for each type of fish also?. Lastly since I'm unlikely to be able to have real plants, which plastic ones do you use please and make. Any advice would be really appreciated thanks
Great list of options I like the idea of a planted discus tank the best with some tetras schooling. Another option to add to your list would be a breeding group of peacocks like the red top Lawanda, one male to three to five females in a 75 gallon. The mail would be an absolute stunner in breeding colors most of the time.
I messaged you guys on insta and thank you for coming back to me with advice. Number one is definitely a dream tank! I’ll hopefully have my South American 350 litre tank stocked soon 👍🏻. Thanks guys.
I have a mix of No1 and no2 on your list and works well I have a Dempsey Cuban and Green Terror from no2 and a severum oscar and acara from No1 also have a Red Terror and all get on in a 75 gallon tank with a few Corry and couple of plecos Thanks Cichlid Bros your videos have really helped with setting this tank up 👍
I always go on a walk and collect big stones, wash them and test them for calcium and then once clean, I decorate them in my tank, It looks peaceful and amazing
Seriously awesome video. The SA community is my dream tank, but I have a question for the Cichlid Bros about tanks of these sizes. How do you do water changes? I've always had to use buckets and a normal siphon due to not having a compatible sink with the python, and I feel like doing water changes for a tank that big would take ages 5 gallons at a time. Is there any tips for large tank water changes? Thanks!
Large plastic tub, like a 44gal drum, $30 pond pump & a suitable hose. Throw in a heater if you want to preheat the water. No more buckets & no more sore back
Hey Troy, I have a very similar stocking in my sa/ca community tank. I agree with you that it is the best. You might want to consider a firemouth. They are pretty peaceful (in my experience), have great color, and an interesting personality. Very underrated cichlid. We always have one and it is a family favorite. My daughter and I love watching your videos. Thanks.
Hey Steve. Glad you and your daughter are enjoying the videos and following along! We’ve kept firemouths in the past and will be again soon. Quinn is getting some for his classroom setups soon!
Big central American cichlids of the Parachromis family in pairs, or the one everyone is sleeping on; the Hemichromis family members of the large variety such as H.fasciatus.
Do you think I can put a green terror in with severums, electric blue acara, blue acara, rainbow cichlids, threadfin acara, and geophagus tapajos? In a 210 gallon tank. Hope to have an answer from you.
I can’t believe this tank! And I just learned I could add an Uaru! (Panda ). What was that largest light colored fish? Orange/yellow eyes, soft patterning? Never seen it; madly in love! Thanks for another great video!
gone round the block with fish keeping, i have finally resided with south american water set up now, 1 oscar, 1 jack dempsey & finally a jaguar who i just love to watch dart to the surface to catch his favourite flying insects, flys & any other unlucky insects, i keep them in a 6, 3, 3ft & so far all good, I would like to try & keep a wolf cichlid, i reckon a 12ft tank to itself might do the job but would probably have to 12ft high & wide as a very big powerful fish
Hey! Long time viewer, love your channel and been alot of help over the years. Regarding the predator tank I currently have a 55g and recently bought a 90g to upgrade for my livingroom aquarium. I currently have a 7" male True Blue Acara who's a little on the rougher side of aggression. He like to attempt to breed with my blood parrot which they've never been successful. I've fallen in love with your Jack Demsey and was looking into one of my own with maybe a firemouth. Do you think it's enough space to accomodate that kind of combo? I wanted geophagus but I dont think this'll be enough space for a group that large... Would love your input on how to make it work.
I plan to get a 6ft 220 gallon tank and stock it with a smaller species of peacock bass, oscar, severum and parrot hybrid that I got probably a group of geos, and some silver dollars, I'll also add a green terror and possibly jack Dempsey and my big sailfin pleco,I may get a pike cichlid
i'm getting a 200l to me thats a very big tank, i'd love a mixure of pretty cichlids, i would love a few focus fish then smaller lovely community fish as my daughter loves them, any advice? would i be better off with a variety of angles, as i already have corys khuli loaches and cherry barbs (although) all those could stay in their current tank and be moved if not suitable, very likely be a planted tank too
I have an empty 220 gallon idk what to stock with since all I own are 10-20 gallons, I'm leaning towards south american cichlids now bc of this video, my dad really likes flower horns can I put 1 in a south american cichlid tank? and what do you recommend for stocking that size?
Would probably work but could be tight long term with adults. GT's can get pretty large and territorial. My 75 worked with the combo, but a Texas in the mix would've likely caused issues
Thanks for the video! Would it be possible to get a 120 gallon, 450 litres, SA community tank with the geophagus tapajos and a hero severum, possibly 2? I love those cichlids but right now I do not have the room
Can king kong parrot fish live with other peaceful cichlid comfortably like Severum, neon blue acara or geophagus cichlid or will it have any issues. Please tell as I am willing to buy one.
I have Discus with quite a mix and it works kinda. 5 Discus with 3 Angel fish, 2 Nicaragua parrots, acara, ram. Only fish that are constantly sparing are the Nicaragua cichlids with each other ( Both females ) and the acara seems to not like both of them at all. Thier territorys are close and somehow they all seem to want the roots base. Acara left and nicaraguas the back and front anyone moves into the others space and they spar. Without touching each other. Mouths wide open and gills flaired. 😅
I have a 65 gallon Jack Dempsey and a bristle nose pleco. The filter is a fx4. Is there any else I can add in my tank . I think my jd are male and female but there to young to tell.
I want to do a South American cichlid tank. I’m currently in a 55g but want to upgrade I’m debating between 75- 125g. 200$ difference for tank incl stand but not sure about filtration etc upgrades needed. My 55 g is all over filtered as if it was a 75 so I don’t think I would need to change plus the only 125g tanks near me are top fin which I’ve heard aren’t the greatest?
I would recommend the 125, bigger the better for South Americans. Had the topfin ensemble for 3 years and it was a great tank. Stand doesn’t seem super durable but it got the job done
I found a 135 g used tank in working condition so super excited. I’m wondering if I’m going to overstock. Once it gets going I was thinking of getting 7 tapajos, 2 long fin geo, 2 parrot, 2 electric blue acana, and severum, school of Congo and silver dollars with Cory Dora and a placo? Is that too much? I would love an Oscar but wasn’t sure if big enough?
If you where going to do an electric blue acara species only tank in a 125g with two fx4s what male to female ratio would you be looking for with around 11-13 fish?
I figured I would come to the experts. I am setting up a 75g SA/CA tank. Here are the 4 I love. Let me know if this would work especially as I am only planning on 1 each. So: geophagus tapajos, firemouth, electric blue acara, rainbow cichlid. What else could I add? (I think a Severum would be too big. Could I add smaller rams like bolivians or other cichlids like a Keyholes? Do you think I could any other larger cichlids that would work with the main 4? Other ideas may include like a rainbow shark or denison barbs. Any advice would be great. Thanks guys. Love your channel.
I really like the idea of Denison barbs. I was thinking about adding some to my 75 as well. That core group you have should work nicely. Keyholes might be okay if you don’t get one too small to start. Rams might need higher temps than the rest so might be best to avoid. Jurupari could be a nice addition to that group, very peaceful. Thanks for watching!
Hi Troy I have a 180 gallon tank Dear Community cichlids in there but that turned out just to be blue-gray now and then I developed Emoji in my tank and I really don't know what to do with that let me know what you think
Hey there. If it’s blue green algae (Cyanobacteria), I’d just increase water changes to get nitrates down. You could also try to shorten the timeframe with the light on as well
Ok so im interested in an African cichlids tank im setting up a 75 gallon but I also want a couple Bala sharks and tinfoil barbs. Everyone is telling me both are a no, but your #1 tank I see a Bala. Would I be ok with 5 or 6 cichlids and maybe 2 Bala sharks and 3 or 4 tinfoils?
Hey there. It could likely work if the tank was larger. Tin foils and Balas get really large and are very active swimmers. I’d recommend a 6 ft tank (125 or 180) for them specifically
Hi there buddy I know this is an old video hopefully you see this comment I've kept lake malawi cichlids peacocks mbuna and labs and girrafe cichlids for over 2 years I'm just wondering can I mix African cichlids in with them in my 5 ft tank it's very roomy I have a fry tank with all the fry in a 3 by 3 ft jewel
I used to have a jack Dempsey, we had to put him down when he started to die. He lived for 13 years, we had gotten “e-or” for free because his siblings were eating “e-or’s” tall. RIP.
I’ve been in the hobby for about 30 yrs and have had both S.Americans and Africans, but over all I like S.Americans as they’re more personable. Not taking anything away from African cichlids as there are some beautiful species, but the S.Americans have more of a laid back style like I do.
I had a pair of tiger Oscars that I bought at a Walmart believe it or not lol but they were tiny when i got them i had them for several years and they grew up great both would eat from my fingers and follow me around the tank like puppies I loved them sadly I ended up having to move to a place I could no longer keep an aquarium so I gave them to my sister with an agreement that if/when she no longer wanted it I would have 1st chance of getting it back and I did years later but my puppies were long gone and I never had the luck to get 2 at once and raise them together and live that long again I gave up after awhile and just gave everything to a random person at a pet store 😢
i started my fish hobby few years ago, i started with 75g tank with 10 glow fishes in it LOL after 2 months i ended up getting 4 discus, like it says in the video its not a beginner fish, i was struggling at first probs gave the fish some hard time but after hard learning those 2" discus are all 6.5" now weo

Of course. Thanks for a great and easy transaction! The shellies started breeding after about 10 days 😂
I have a 75 gallon multi tank and love it. It is a fun tank - started with 9 in March of 2020 and now have about 30.

What does multi mean? I know multi is short for multiple, but what types of fish do you have? I'm new to this.

Check your Lowes/HD. You might be able to find an adaptor that will allow you to use a Python. That's what I had to do
Agreed! I’ve also seen people fill a bathtub and use a pump on the end of the python if they can’t connect to their sink

hi guys u think i can have in 65 g tank a 1 jack and 1 jag and 1 green terror thx
sorry its 75 gallon
the JD and GT might be okay, although its a bit tight. the jag would need a larger tank long term though
I have a 75 gallon fish tank with 3 cichlids and two 8 inch plecos
Super
Tropheus don't get a mention... 😯😲. They are the nicest of all cichlids in my opinion.. but they are a pain to keep also..
I adore apistos, but freshly squeezed limestone juice comes outta my tap lol
