Can we just give some props to Anna Magdalena (Bach's second wife)? I mean first of all she 13 pregnancies go full term and 12 others that resulted in miscarriages. She spent almost 15 years of her life pregnant. All the while she transcribed by hand all the individual sheets of music for every instrument on every piece he wrote. On top of that she managed the schedules, concerts and events for her kids as well as the ones she inherited from Maria Barbara. Oh and she worked as a soloist for multiple other composers.
She absolutely would have a show on Bravo called Bach in Style.

@@shayanmardanbeigi2697 The letters he wrote to his wife are pretty childish, and so is writing a piece for a particular singer's accent so it sounded like he was singing "balls" over and over. This only adds to his charm for me, though.
Actually, we do know what he was like. The film Amadeus, if it's an exaggeration, isn't all that much of one.

Totally agree with you on that ! 🤗 I'm a big fan of Jordon and his work. He's been part of the TwoSet adventure almost since the start.
Over the years, he wrote several pieces / arrangements for their videos, the most recent being "C.B.F.", "Cabbage" and, of course, the beautiful "Prelude".
But he is also the mastermind behind their live concerts : the "Concerto Battle," the "Jingle Bells - Paganini 24 Mash-up", the "Totoro x Beauty and the Beast Medley", and all the music of their special show in Hong Kong in 2017, which included an entire orchestra and a choir !

I also read a bit about Felix Mendelssohn's sister and how she was very important to him

@@kuuderepiano2988 I read somewhere (a faint memory so you can fact check this anytime) that she was a good composer but her dad didn't want her to be famous so he married her off to some rich random man and she never got the chance to showcase and improve her skills...IMO if she had the education and support she can equal her brother...
@@kuuderepiano2988 There are so many!!! They just aren't all super well-recognized. Some of my favourites include Lili Boulanger, Florence Price, and Cécile Chaminade. And that's not even including all the brilliant women writing music today!!

That is practically all of them: Beethoven, Vivaldi, Joplin, Paganini, Liszt, Dvôrak, etc. There is not a single composer who has lived past 30 without being depressed.

1. He was born during an earthquake.
2. He was a redhead. (Europeans stigmatised red hair in his day, and in ancient times, they used to sacrifice red heads to the late gods. At school, he was a parody because of his classmates' bias towards red hair. He wore a wig the rest of his life to avoid this.)
3. He died poor, even though his compositions are making millions.
4. He had five siblings. Calls for mild poverty, obviously. (His family was middle class.)
5. He could not speak properly due to asthma, which he was born with and did not develop as a child.
6. Other composers were given credit for his work due to his unfavourable status in the society. (Did you know that he wrote about 800 works, most of which you do not know about. The four seasons are just the tip of the iceberg. Only now is his music being gradually discovered and accredited to him.)
7. A univeristy got built over his grave, and now it is lost.

I aspire to become a composer, and I’m lucky that I don’t have to feel limited because of my gender.
Its actually too bad that people recognise music and their composers based on their quality, not gender, if the female composer isn't that famous, it might be because that her work isn't as great as the big names out there, but not because of her gender. There are plenty of female composers who are great and thus noticed

4:26 If you're wondering the piece being played is shostakovich symphony no.11 Which is written telling a story on the 1905 revolution. Thats why it has lots of percussion and battle sounds represented though the high notes. The percussion represent the gun fire on the innocent civilians. The best version I've listened though is by j.p saraste
Vivaldi was a charitable man who wrote music for a girl's orphanage :D He is one of those composers who is actually not a stuffy old man but an amazing dude who gave incredible opportunities to those poor girls

I feel bad for Vivaldi... I actually like other pieces of his better than The Four Seasons. Though those are great, too, of course.

The part with Vivaldi is very sad. Truly underrated Baroque master that was admired even by Bach. I am ashamed to admit, but lots of years I only knew the Four Seasons, but then I started to dig much deeper into Baroque and now I have plenty of Vivaldi concertos in my iPod.
Let's not be sad, the Four Seasons are widely known and maybe they throw some shade on the rest of the RV catalogue... but that's for the best of reasons, it's a great piece of music! Of course there are hundreds of his other works that are as good - his Gloria is out of his world! And if the Four Seasons can be an entry point to Vivaldi's repertoire or even better an entry point to classical music (and I'm pretty sure that has happened), well why not ?
Vivaldi is so much more than the 4 seasons, his stabat mater is amazing, his mandolin and lute concertos are sublime, the flute concertos are full of beauty, and his operas are very underrated, he is a master of italian music and his four seasons I think are very overrated in his catalogue, even though I love the winter concerto as a whole, this is why pop culture and mainstream promotion hurts classical composers and their work
As someone who know little about classical music and his works specifically, may you give me recommendations on what pieces from him should I listen to?

For those of you who need further explanation:
00:00 *Bach* : He had 20 children with two wives. Bach also did arrange a meeting with another prolific composer of that era, Handel. But in the end they never met.
00:46 *John Williams* : He has made many amazing and recognizable movie soundtracks for movies like Star Wars, Jaws, Jurassic Park, etc. His music is well known to be 'inspired' by composers like Holst, Dvorak, Korngold, and others.
1:07 *Vivaldi* : Yep we all know him for his famous set of 4 violin concertos, The Four Season. Of course he got lots of other outstanding works, but yeah just see all the talent shows that play Summer all the time :D
1:40 *Mozart* : Mozart was a prodigy. He could learn a piece for just 30 minutes by the age of 4. He was once got drunk the night before the premiere of Don Giovanni even though he hasn't finished the overture. Then, he finished it for about 3 hours at midnight while being tipsy, and finish the piece the same day at the premiere.
2:18 *Paganini* : He is very well known for his unquestionably hard 24 caprices. They are technically very hard, period.
3:59 *John Cage* : 4 minutes 33 seconds of silence is art, change my mind.
4:26 *Shostakovich* : He combined a variety of different musical techniques into his pieces influenced by composers like Stravinsky and Mahler. He was born during the Russian Revolution, that's why his music is obligated to conform the ideals of the Soviet Regime, sounding patriotic.

I get the feeling that, even though it was explained to them by various commenters in their previous posts about John Williams, Twoset still doesn't understand how the relationship between a Film Director and Film Composer works in terms of temp tracks when creating a rough edit of a film. Sigh.

Vivaldi's other concertos are legitimately impressive, honestly some of the most underrated works I've heard.
Not to mention his operas, some of the finest in the repertoire, IMO.

1:10 The reason why the four seasons are the one Vivaldi is most known for is because most of his works were lost in a fire. It was all in a theater that got burn in Venice, the phoenix theater. It burned again in the 20th century, by the way. He might not been as prolific as some of the others, but at his time he was a great opera composer. We just don't have most of them.

La Fenice (the fenix), today's Venice main opera house was built after the fire of 1774 that burned down San Benedetto, which was the former main theater. However, as it turns out, that wasn't where Vivaldi composed his pieces. It was San Angelo. But this one also ended up out of the picture. It was sold and converted into a warehouse in 1804. Who knows if the works there were preserved?
Venice was one of the main opera places and Vivaldi was one of the main opera figures in Venice for a long time. It stand to reason that losing more than 80% of that work compromised his legacy.

It's just that Mendelssohn's sister was supposedly as good as Mendelssohn, but he became more successful because he was a male. I don't think there's anything about stealing the piece in this instance

@@bruh7130 Fanny was not his wife, but his sister, and she was as much a prodigy as he was. There are anecdotes about how people admired her work even more than that of her brother, but she was told by their father and her brother that she couldn't pursue music (piano and composing) as a job because she was a woman. Felix Mendelssohn did publish a few of her works under his name. So yes, he became more successful because he was male and allowed to pursue music. Whose music is better is probably a matter of taste.

Also if you noticed - they played the Mendelssohn violin concerto, and it's thought that some of the compositions attributed to Felix Mendelssohn were in fact composed by his sister, Fanny Mendelssohn. 😂
