Yes sir I really likes my hunter bows they are great shooting bows, only thing I see with the new bow is I wish they would’ve kept the quiver bushing or Bow fishing attachments. God BLESS
Bought one of these from 3Rivers about 2 months ago. Love it. Mine’s 55# and pretty damn fast. More importantly it shoots where I look. It also seems like the poundage levels off at full draw. No stack whatsoever
I just bought the same, which arrives this Tuesday. What arrow setup are you using? It's my first traditional bow, I'm going to hunt with it. Can't wait.
I bought my Kodiak Hunter at a store similar to Kmart in 1978. It was on clearance for $20! As it turn out years later its the only bow I've cracked the upper limb when stringing it (didn't use a bow stringer back then!). Although it was ruined I still have it. I liked it a lot but would have to say it was not any better than the bow I replaced with the Kodiak Magnum. I would add the new version of both is almost the same as the old but perhaps better looking and certainly due to the different materials used now.
Happy that Bear is reintroducing the old classics. However I wish that they would get the streaks in the glass issue fixed, I see your bow only has afew your lucky. I've seen some others that are worse off Bear let leave the factory.
How do you think this bow would handle a 30" draw? The Super Kodiak and 59 kodiaks I've owned both stacked really bad, but this looks to have a shorter riser and longer working limb...so I'm kinda hopeful that it could handle a longer draw.
That tracks the bow is snappy but believe it or not my Super Grizzly is faster with the same draw weight and same weight arrow. They are both great bows...
She’s a shooter! Had to order new arrows. Shot it with some slightly under spine arrows and was smooth and accurate. Ordered new arrows, ready to fine tune!
I see you like kodiak bows. Does kodiak use any string or is it restricted. I like the Super kodiak and kodiak. Also looking at the kodiak hunter. Which one would you recommend? I got told they shoot same but handle different. Kodiak smoothest shooters out of all the bear bows?
what arrows for hunting deer and turkey do you recommend??? I am going to buy the kodiak hunter bow 50#, just getting into hunting with a bow, I have always been pretty good shot, so just curious, I am a newby...lol
I’m trying to decide on my first recurve and your channel has been a big help. Which bow out of these two would you recommend, 59 Kodiak or the Kodiak Hunter? Please give me your feedback. I value your opinion. Thanks Tom
Excellent review, now what would you prefer between this Kodiak Hunter vs Super Kodiak ? I can't make my mind up which one to get ! Many thanks for any advice. John from England
Quick opinion question, I have a nice Hoyt sensation compound bow, all stock, its great. It has the original camo paint scheme, would it be wise to change the paint scheme to a modern look, or should I leave it be, due to value of classic bows? Thanks for your imput..
Thank you very much I am trying to decide which one to buy. I have a 59 classic and I love it but I would like something else. I thought about the Super Grizzly also. In you opinion which one would you prefer to hunt with the Kodiak Hunter or the Super Grizzly
I think it’s cool bear brings back certain models periodically though. I missed out on the bear K4 static a few years ago. Hate that I missed out on it. Hopefully it returns again but I’m guessing it’ll be awhile.
Is that a giant tag end on the top of the string. I see a long orange strand flopping around but can’t tell what it is. Also see bear streaking has set in which is unfortunate. Definitely like the overall appearance but hopefully they get the streaks fixed and the strings made a little better.
@@allthingsarcheryandshootin9380 ok I was thinking/hoping that was the case. Kinda reminded me of a peep location indicator. But I knew that couldn’t be right on a trad bow. Glad to see the string color change. Much better than the old tan and brownish ones. Plus cat whiskers pre installed is a good bonus.
Hi sir this bow looks awesome are they still making it? How long is this riser fade to fade? Thanks a million for showing this great bow the review was awesome sir. Have a great blessed day. Sorry for my English I am speaking Afrikaans.
I can't decide between the Hunter and the 59. The $59 is about $200 more, I know that but that isn't the deal breaker. So now I have to figure out which to get.
I’m a Bear fanboy. I really am. I have 2 1966 Grizzlies I love dearly. Also had a ‘59 Kodiak repro (2018 model) that I never should have sold. But I’m still blown away by the terrible level of quality Bear has put out in the last decade. Just so disappointing. Streaking finish. Crazing glass. Delaminating limbs. These are all real issues that occur with alarming frequency with Bear nowadays. I know what Bear defenders will say, that it’s just a numbers thing. That they put out a ton of bows and we only hear about the bad experiences. I say BS. It’s 2022 for goodness sake. EVERY OTHER bowyer and mass producer of bows has figured out how to NOT have these problems. It’s not like Bear is new to the game. They’re not getting ramped up learning materials, methods, etc on how to put together a bow. You’d think a company at this game for well over half a century experience could figure out how to build a quality set of limbs. Ugh. Sorry for the rant. The bow looks amazing with that grey glass. But we as a traditional community have been letting Bear get away with this crap for too long
Well said I agree with you 100% I purchased a bear Ausable longbow 12 months ago and after 6 months it started to develop some serious stress lines they refunded my money straight away .
Yup, I agree with you. I love Bear, but the quality of their product just isn't there. If they can't hit the price point they need to and still maintain build quality , they should offer custom shop grade options that allow people that want better quality to get it. Better yet, I say support Damon Howatt once the new ownership starts shipping bows. The new owner sounds like he is really trying to focus on quality and DH has just as much legacy as Bear. Plus...nothing hits 'em like a Howatt ;-)
Sad but very true, looking at reviews & even other videos on youtube that show bear recurves blowing up, being shipped with string grooves off center etc. And they are slow compared to other bows at the same or less price point. Fred Bear was always testing new things, saying that you are using his bow forms is great for marketing but that is where it ends. Bear would have been using modern materials had he been alive today. An updated bamboo core Super Kodiak that looks like the bows Fred made in the late 60's early 70's....I would be the first in line for that.
@@matthewbarton1356 definitely agree. Or how about for 800 bucks you can get carbon in the limbs? Or at least a 62" option for one of their recurves. I love Bear and the heritage they have, but this is the problem when they are just a subsidiary of a larger company.
I wonder if your facts are wrong on the production times for this bow. My brother in law was in accounting for Bear Archery from about 78 on for about probably 30 years in Gainsville. He started with the company when they moved to Gainsville. He used to give me a bow every once in a while. They were all seconds, which I think he got for free. In about 1986, I requested a Bear Kodiak Hunter recurve, 70# bow from him. And he mailed it to me. It was a brand new bow, but it was a second. I never found anything wrong with it. It was a very fast bow. I was probably shooting too light of an arrows. But it was impressive. So, unless this was new old stock or something, Bear was making this bow around 1986 I regret that I had to sell a few years later, as it the poundage was just too heavy for me. If I had asked for a 50 to 60 pound bow, I would still own it today. I think I remember it had brown glass on the limbs, but I don't remember if it had the white on the grip. However, I do remember for sure that the time frame was circa 1986.
@@allthingsarcheryandshootin9380 I guess it was old stock, then. You know, in 86, compound bows were all the rage, and had been for a few years. I didn't know anyone that used a recurve at that time. So, I guess there could have been several recurves in their warehouse.
Left handed archers always get the short end of the stick, we can only get these in 40,45 wtf. Also Bear needs some longer bows, they need 62s and 64s in their collection.
What, no bushings for a bow quiver???? My Super Kodiak and Kodiak Magnum both have these, and they will be really missed on this one. Why in heck would they leave them off?
Well, I have a 2018 black phenolic Super Kodiak that has bushings, and a 2021 Kodiak Magnum that also has bushings, so that makes utterly no sense to me. All three are hunting bows, and the Kodiak Magnum was less expensive than the Kodiak Hunter, so it is not a price point thing. @@mikailkonev9777 Hi Mikail: Hmm, well I have a Kodiak Magnum in "Grayling Green", which was a 2020 special, with green glass and a handle riser of green-dyed maple, and I have to say I much prefer the shedua/grey combination, aesthetically. The shedua is a heavy,-tight grained wood that is nicely set off by the phenolic stripe, and to me it makes the Kodiak Magnum look pretty plain by comparison. And I prefer the feel of the shedua riser - it feels denser and the finish is nicer. Indeed I wish I had the Magnum in hr this combination as well.
