Note: I added subs for those who want them 2009 D1GP Round 4 Okayama Driver: Kawabata Masato Score: 100 points from all judges Another angle (taken from the 1st corner stands): • d1kawabata
He should have lost it, it was supposed to be impossible to come back from that angle. People in the grand stands got a taste of the improbability and jackpot! He held it together. Thank you, thank you so much Kawabata and D1.
Dead? Masato Kawabata is still alive. Atsushi Kurio is the one who died in 2009 in a motorcycle accident on public roads. Kurio was also part of Team Toyo and he was the one who taught Kawabata how to drift and how to pull off this backwards entry. Kawabata is the one in the 180SX (the car in this video) and Kurio was the one in the Onevia (S13 with 180SX front end). Kurio was and is a legend. May he rest in peace.
To add to my comment below, Ken Gushi stated that the hardest drift he ever had to do was going into a blind L shaped corner at over 100 mph, which is exactly what Tanner Foust did in his backwards drift. Gushi stated that that turn separated the men from the boys.
When I have kids I will play this video for them to go to sleep every night, I will also have it on constant repeat in my Ipod 37th gen and have them use it for every school assignment they get. And then we will all do a 110 degree tandem into the horizon... This and Saito's jump drift, definitely both.
Um, that was def past 90 degrees. I can't even wrap my head around what i've just seen. If there was ever a "Perfect Drift" that was it. Kudos to you sir. All of them.
Yes, basically he violated the laws of physics because as Newton said, "An object in motion tends to stay in motion." Therefore as he had enough speed to start the drift but over rotated on purpose past a 90 degree angle the car should under normal circumstances continued to rotate past until the car spun out. However he was able to hold the drift and bring it back under control all the way around the corner which should have been impossible. This was an EPIC drift and at will? Priceless.
D1 drivers don't usually modify their cockpits into full race-spec cockpits, except Max Orido and NOB Taniguchi, because they're also Super GT drivers.
no it came from japan, they raced downhill in twists and turns and realised that like in rally the fastest way around a corner is not always the way with the most traction and so they started drifting around corners and it just became its own thing from there
this car has a 600 hp stroked SR22DET. the only way americans could get 600 hp in a 240sx is an LS swap. personally i think starting with 300-400 hp in an SR is easier until you level up your skill. SR is also much lighter than the LS and sounds better. so i'd definitely agree with you.
Keiichi Tsuchiya taught himself how to drift correctly so that he could be more successful in controlling his car in races. There weren't any Americans who did that.
honestly i respect the LS series, i love the corvettes, camaros, and CTS-V's, but i just hate it when idiots stick it in anything just because "it doesn't have power".
This is offically my favorite video on TH-cam. :))))))))) That was the most beautiful drift I have ever seen in my life. I am still in awwwwwww. :))))))))))
It's not 4WD, its a trick and good control of him, and good timing. Check from 0:22 second look at the back wheels. look at ken block he have some drifting more crazy then this. if his car is 4WD with a trick like this one the car will not done this thats 1 second thing if the car is 4WD at least you will see a cloud of whites from the rear side of the car. Check saudi drifting, you will understand its the driver not the car. i'm not comparing at all. The bottom line, This guy is a good driver.
That was the All Japan GT Championship, and even if it wasn't, there's no way an NSX would be LMP2 class. The highest Tsuchiya has competed is LMGTP, which you might notice is lower than LMP2. He was in LMP900, which is essentially LMP1, but he wasn't spectacular in it. He was good, and i would never say he isn't good, i'm just saying there are so many out there who are better than him, both in terms of speed and sliding, or "drifting."
Oh and if you want to get picky, it can include (in reverse alphabetical order): *Young's modulus; *Mechanical work; *Velocity; *Philosophiae Naturalis Principia Mathematica (that's Newton's laws of motion); *Potential energy; *Momentum; *Kinetic energy; *Inertia (:O ya got one); *Force; *Free energy; *Energy; *Classical Mechanics; *Acceleration; And to a lesser degree; Chaos Theory; *Thermodynamics; & *Resonance. Go to metaresearch (dot org) and look it up!
That drift is incredible!!! Even so, i believe Tanner Foust backward entry is better. This guy went into a nice smooth U corner with banking while Tanner went into a L shaped corner with and another corner directy after making it harder. Tanners drift does not look as smooth but only because his was shot by a average guy with a camera and at a bad angle. I believe this drift was made look better by camera angle however, this is one of the if not hardest drifts to do so im not hating :)
"That was against the laws of physics wasn't it?"
"I agree"
Overwhelmed lvl: japanese
150 people crashed trying to do this in their Civic.......
Lol

Atsushi Kuroi: I'm proud of you
:')
150 people think their crx bodykit adds power
They do though
Lol
Yeah, those people are idiots, how would bodykits add power? Obviously stickers add power not bodykits, duh.
All we need is some Eurobeat and we're done..
no, YOU need eurobeat for it, I think it's perfect the way it is
Another thing that made it _so great_ is that there were like NO steering corrections throughout the whole thing. Big points, baby!
There were they were just so smooth that it's hard to see
Reverse entry like a boss!
you know you're a good drifter when keiichi tsuchiya gives you a standing ovation after a run
That was fucking sick
Look at all the foot work while handling the e break and shifter. Even conentrating on perfect timing. True talent
I LOVE HOW EXCITED THE JUDGES GET!!!!
The rear of the car was past the front and he still was able to keep it under control. That is absolutely insane!
Nothing can beat this. Not even in video games!
Scootastic MC And Takumi Fudjiwara ?
Scootastic MC I do this is in video games all the time, but it still isn't as cool as it is irl
He should have lost it, it was supposed to be impossible to come back from that angle. People in the grand stands got a taste of the improbability and jackpot! He held it together. Thank you, thank you so much Kawabata and D1.
How can 144 peoples dislike this?
144 Police Officers...
they dont understand the extreme steer angle involved
Dimas Wira the self driving cars disliked
Dimas Wira americans
Is it in my ears that when Japanese speak its very funny? haha i soo miss their old fashion action and karate movies. This is a perfect drift thou
rear entry is making the best of a bad situation and it comes off cool as hell
That reverse entry tho
I truly think that D1 drivers have more skill than the likes of F1 or NASCAR drivers
They do the same tracks, but with their car sideways the whole time lol of course they have more skill
+Stuntihn MX urs
It's not comparable lol
Nascar? Yes. F1? No...
I truly think you all are 13 yo
Even Keiichi Tsuchiya loves it damn.
that really was a perfect drift

When I do this on GT5 it counts it as me spinning out :(
"If you're going hard enough left, you'll find yourself turning right"
What a drift!!!!!
it's so amazing i can watch it all day...
dat reverse entry though
The judge that stood up is the man that created drifting
Why was this recommended? Also I can do this, its too easy. Hold my beer
Steps in a fwd car
Crashes into the wall
You know you drift with angle when you have to look out the back window
Drift knuckles the way too Reverse paridies ;)
clutch kick that bitch!!!
love how much work goes into these cars to get that much steering lock to get that angle and hold it , good jod

how the fuck

not bad, can do better on my moped
The origins of the backwards entry. I am humbled.
this was not only sideways. this was a reverse entry^^
the most dope form of drifting ;)
ANYONE who gets a standing ovation from Keiichi Tsuchiya deserves one from EVERYONE!!
@bobonnwoof : Its actually "Kitaaaa kitaa" from the verb "kimas" which means **he came**
@mutasim0hourani And that's why Japanese drifting looks stylish and smooth
thats it a "drift in fucking reverse"???? HOLY SH*T MAN that is crazy!! he entered the curve very smooth.
180SX is not the car model, but means 180° on the left, which actually is the power steering of this Ride!
HOLY TURNING ANGLE BATMAN.. Jesus, it looks like an RC drift car with wheels that can turn that much..
that's exactly the kind of response i expected. good job, you know how to read.
90 degree angle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! that's what drifting is all about
no it came from japan, they raced downhill in twists and turns and realised that like in rally the fastest way around a corner is not always the way with the most traction and so they started drifting around corners and it just became its own thing from there

@ProjectYuko Not control arms, they are D1 steering knuckles. Increases the lock-to-lock on your steering

he didnt create it but he brought it mainstream

Ken Block is a rally driver and a showman. He doesn't drift, he powerslides.
土屋「技術じゃない、裏技!」

Its not that strange, people, its called a reverse entry. And it is the perfect drift.
This is offically my favorite video on TH-cam. :))))))))) That was the most beautiful drift I have ever seen in my life. I am still in awwwwwww. :))))))))))
That was the cleanest drift I’ve ever seen
Cause Block does it a hundred times to get a perfect shot. He's a motorsport actor.
It's not 4WD, its a trick and good control of him, and good timing. 180 degrees .. that is completely sick and mad
2023 and still watching this.
I love how he was just sitting in the car for the first few seconds as if he was just a passenger XD
one word, WOW!!!, and better than that, THIS GUY HAS BIG BALLS!!! i soooo wish i could do that. serious skill.
lol i love how they're sitting in bride seats thats awesome
I love their seats.
171 people who said "Japan drifter is a noob" without thinking where is Drifting origin.
@ncodrington Yes, the one who stood up. He's the DK man!
giggled under my breathe when he spun the wheel then just held it there
Massive amounts of suspension modification. Thats one hell of a camber adjustment,
this is easily the best video on youtube
Even the judges said 'that should be 120" instead of 100
A Ford fiesta with it's engine on fire.
Drifting was invented in japan, Tsuchiya will have a huge advantage.
drift obviously isn't the only sport, but you can go way more extreme than that. Rally racing > everything else.
The laws of physics don't apply to this man.
