There's this one job where he runs around, checking castles and eventually dropping an axe on a bridge to drop a dragon-turtle thing into some lava. That's pretty weird.
You know, now that I think about it, he's quite mean to rare and endangered species - what with his history with Kong and Bowser and all. Is one of his unmentioned jobs 'rare creature hunter'?
Falls under archeology. Running, jumping and puzzling around, stealing treasures, destroying ancient structures and killing everything in sight ... I mean, that's basically the Lara-Croft-school of archeology.
One time, he used a talking water pump to clean up jet set radio!

I'm not sure why Mario decided to teach typing. Does the mushroom kingdom even have computers or keyboards? HOW DOES HE TYPE WITH HIS HANDS?
Just search the game called Mario Teaches To Type. It's more of an educational game that it's sounds bad actually.

As someone who did a one day Nintendo event as Mario, I am also curious. Every time I tried to fist bump or do a jump with a clenched fist, I couldn't curl my fingers in the padded gloves. A lot of people got pictures with Mario doing devil horns 😖
Also, the freaking 10 lbs. a piece platform shoes. And the fat suit. And the giant Mario head. At least I got paid.

Jane, what the hell is CD? People keep telling me - it is awesome, you should try it. Last week I installed RE2 remake with just 6 full trucks of floppy disks, and it was just fine.

To be honedt, in Dragon Age 2, the only thing you can do is take up an Adventuribg job as a Mercenary worker. Ignoring that, you ARE supposed to take up a job at the beginning of the game for your family. I'm actually pretty sure the original Dragon Age doesn't have the character doing much out of Merc work.

They would have done chores above and beyond what most children today do, but having something worth calling a job would not have been universal.
Also recall that Hyrule is a magical fantasy world, and know that assumptions for how things worked on Earth wouldn't always apply to how things worked in Hyrule.

Technically, that was more of his community service since that was his sentence (For a crime he didn't commit).

It is certainly the case with floppy disks. My best buddy is a teacher and still uses them for small data, had one on his desk in the classroom and his pupils asked him why he printed the saving icon from word with a 3D printer.

Since there's a theory about Doomguy being Link, why not expand upon it and try to present the idea that Mario is B.J. Blazkowitz? The mention of his military past in this video could be a starting point.
Both are ex-military, live in alternative realities, like to kill enemies in the most gruesome way posible, both like to make some fun of their victims from time to time and they both fight a totalitary regime and to save/protect a woman they care for. Yep they are basicly one and the same (one version is just safe to watch for kids :P).

Mario's also held a job at as a cement factory manager, in Mario's Cement Factory. Except in this case, "manager" really means, "transfer cement down the factory to trucks for delivery, and don't get crushed or fall down an elevator shaft". So, more of a hands on management role.
Oh, the Game & Watch days of Mario. Who could forget the times he worked at a cement factory, tamed gorillas at a circus or worked the entertainment industry as a juggler. Not to mention games like Wrecking Crew, that saw Mario working his own demolition company, or Donkey Kong Jr. (which was briefly mentioned here) where he smuggled gorillas.
Don't forget Mario was able to build a hotel purely by dancing in DDR Mario Mix

Sure, it's weird when Mario is a referee or an archeologist, but what about when he was a time traveler/professional surfer? Even if we set the weird job combo aside for a moment, he didn't even delve into the history of the Mushroom Kingdon, but rather he went to *real* historical moments. He was essentially the Dr. Who of the Nintendo universe!

There was Mario's Cement Factory, where you had to move vats of cement into the trucks without getting smashed by the elevator platforms or spilling any onto the drivers. Real fun game!

he and Luigi had a plumbing business on the Super Mario Brothers Super Show... of course the less said about that atrocity the better. it's on netflix if anybody wants to torture themselves.
I one of the recent games, the one with the fairys and clear pipes. The bros fix a clear pipe at the start, you see they have specialized in warp pipe plumbing.
In fairness, staking out a grid and carefully uncovering pieces to interpret obtuse clues is much closer to real archaeology than any of the glorified vandalism Lara and Nathan got up to.
For me it looks like that minefield game that was build into windows, just with out so much bang in it.
And Lara is more of a Tomb Raider or a grave robber then a real archeologist (and Nathan i just a tresure hunter not realy the same).

Oh boy, the music in Dr. Mario is so good! The title theme from Dr. Mario and the Moon Theme from NES Ducktales both hit me right in the childhood.
Fun fact: before the arcade game Mario Bros, which is when the plumber thing started, Mario was a carpenter in Donkey Kong, which is the excuse to why the whole game takes place in a construction site. My guess on why he became a plumber is because Luigi told Mario that he found them jobs as the cities plumbers, which pays a lot more (somehow), thus the sudden career shift, and Luigi suddenly existing.

Technically, I'm pretty sure Punch Out made a mistake when they decided to call it a TKO when the boxer in question is lying unmoving on the ground. At that point, is it not just called a knock out?
A TKO is when they're awake but concussed to the point where they can't actually do anything to contest the fight, at which point there's no point inflicting more brain damage....isn't it?

i think Luigi has the weirder job of helping E. Gadd test his ghost related inventions. Mostly weird because luigi hates ghosts so thoroughly. it made sense in the first Luigi's mansion when he was trying to save mario, but from what i recall about Dark moon, he just volunteers to help E. Gadd.
Demolitions Engineer in Super Mario World, he was able to demolish, explode or send flying an entire castle with just one charge of explosives.
